Back in Dec. I had called the RI labor board due to my employer paying the staff under the table for 5 weeks in a row and was taking out the taxes each week and keeping them. Each week she told me, it's a one more week thing before we were back with a payroll company. I made her give me some kind of Pay stub the first two weeks, she made it by asking to see one of my old pay stubs from payroll in which she wrote out federal and RI state tax, but still took out the full amount of deductions for DBL, FICA, SS etc. SO the Department of Labor told me I was accepting money illegally and I need to stop working their immediately. I told them it was easier said than done considering I had been looking for a job due to being threatened by the owner on numerous occasions while the owner was drunk and working with me. The Labor board told me that I could file for unemployment under the circumstances. I did just that. I wrote up a letter of resignation effective immediately stating why I was leaving giving the reason of her illegally paying me. I filed for unemployment and now 8 weeks later I finally got a denied claim. Saying under act 28-44-17 of the RI employment security act I left my job without good cause. Can someone tell me how this is possible? I thought I was doing the right thing. I looked the law up and there is nothing even posted about my situation within the guidelines. I am not the smartest of people, but I am no scumbag. I wasn't trying to get free money I was trying to do the right thing how does this happen? Does anyone know anything I can do about this. I am still without a job and it's not like I haven't been trying there just is no work over here. I have filed my appeal and I hope it turns around. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Don Carcieri sucks! He turned down jobs in Rhode Island... Actually he prevented jobs creating in Rhode Island! If this is how he hoped Rhode Island to be since his term then I think he accomplished that task.

You stupid country bumpkin you probably can't spell Rhode Island, why are you even attempting to read about our financial problems anyways you live hundreds of miles south of here...?? Karen wrote: I dont think anyone realizes on this page that the unemployment staff have been working many extra hours to help get people their money. They dont work 8-12. They are work full days and also on saturdays. Before you start writing posts and blaming the workers in Ui get all the facts. THey are in the process of hiring new staff members, but they need to be trained before they can get ont he phones. This is all the Gov's fault because he forced people to retire. I am sick of everyone blaming the state workers for all their problems. But they are working extra hours to get the job done. Well it's Sept 09 & you still can NOT reach DLT on the phone, 2 hour holds and you still speak to nobody or the piece of **** teleserve line just hangs up on you..where are all the new reps they were fn training. They suck, the DLT sucks & so do you!
