Tough that he beat Mickey Rourke. I personally felt Rourke's personal experience in his film was a far better movie than MILK. I can't take anything away from Penn. I have loved his movies since I was a kid. His character inspired gays and lesbians everywhere. Rourke's inspired millions of others to do what you believe in.

I was glad to see Sean Penn win the Oscar after I saw the way Mickey Rourke showed up. Rourke looked like a complete wanker with that costume and hairdo he was wearing. Although Penn had a few issues with the paparazzi a couple decades ago, he seems to have turned out to be a pretty decent guy. He has dome some great work in fighting for equal rights for Americans, as well as his efforts against the unjust Iraq war, and his aid in the Katrina disaster.

It's sure OK for Anthony Hopkins to win the Oscar for playing a psychotic homicidal cannibal, but when Penn plays a gay man he should be snubbed because that's "wrong."

Sick of the Hollywood people shoving their political and social views down our throats every time they get a camera on them, whether I agree with them or not. Do some research! The Oscar is for an acting performance, not for who he hangs out with. He wasnt elected first Jesus. he got an award for following a script and playing a role. Thats all.

Geez, some of you people have actually paid money to watch these movies. All you gotta do is turn on Entertainment Tonight or the HLN channel for all the latest Hollywood stuff in real time or get ATT Uverse, they have a full time gay/lesbian channel available if that's you thing. If people are looking to Penn or Winslet for hero worship and/or inspiration may God or Allah have mercy on them. IMO
