Nice job City Council...This mayor actually got a union to help the city out and they are blocking it for political reasons. The Mayor and Police Union are actually putting the interests of the city first...and the council wants their names in the paper to get some of the credit. Cranston residents - Remember those council members that play these games (Navarro, Lupino, Livingston) and make them accountable for it in the next election...they should be ashamed of themselves

well it is good to hear the mayor is concerned with the residents well being!! cut a high paying job,and leave the officers right where they are! we need them on the street!! everyday CRIME gets WORSE ALL OVER!! not just here in CRAAAAAANSTON!! as some say it!! I know cuts have to be made, but it should not ever be law enforcement, fire department,or the school department that cuts should be made!! the city of cranston owns properties> vacant land and others as well!! start selling them off!! and then use the money for what is truly important!!! just my opinion!! and many might not agree!! oh well freedom of speech>>>> don't ya LOVE IT!!!!

I agree...this city council needs to be held accountable for their actions. A mayor and union agree to save the city 1.5 million and avoid layoffs..and this disgraceful council wants to play politics. Let's not forget the new council members who are also agreeing to this political game

Once again the Finance Committee has a bright idea... Let the Mayor do his job... I congratulate him and the police officers in my city for bargaining on their contract. It shows responsibility and a willingness to negotiate. It seems the Finance Committe wants to keep there jobs so now they open up there mouths. How about talking about the Park Avenue theater , the overcrowding at Cranston High School East, the decaying schools..

Thank you Mayor Fung and IBPO President Antonucci for proposing real savings for the citizens of Cranston. I wish I could say the same for Councilman Navarro and Livingston. Councilman Navarro stop running for office. Try to handle your position on the Council first. Councilman Livingston at the finance meeting asked Mayor Fung if Chief McGrath can speak honestly. It was very clear who was pulling your strings. I challenge Chief McGrath to stand up for the officers who this council is laying off. I'm sure I'll be disappointed again. THE COUNCIL NEEDS TO PUT ASIDE POLITICS AND WORK WITH MAYOR FUNG

I agree with Probert..Navarro looked lost on the news and looks like he has no idea what he's talking about. First he complained the health care costs were not high enough...then when he was proved wrong on that, he moves to yet another excuse. If the cops in Cranston are behind this contract then why isn't the Chief commenting?? This whole thing is a joke and the council is just trying to get their names in the paper and trying to take credit for Mayor Fung's contract. The resident of Cranston better remember the actions of this council!!!! Keep at it Mayor Fung!!!!!

The Chief hasn't stood up for his guys yet. He didn't when he lied under oath two years ago and he wont now. The public has no idea how bad this Chief really is and how he has covered for his departmental friends over the years. I hope Fung lays off the Chief and his other admin. friends he has promoted or created jobs for. I hope the public realizes that it was the Chief who went behind Fung's back and talked the Council members into not approving the contract because it takes away his "powers", and he is all about power. To my brothers remaining, stay strong. Better days are coming and it starts with a new Car 1.

I guess because Council President Lanni was fired from his job and is collecting unemployment, he wants the Police Officers to do the same. What a disgusting display of politics. Shame on the City Council.

Have any of the Brain Surgeons on the City Council thought about legal costs the city will be paying for an unnecessary court battle? No they haven't because they care about their own agenda, not the taxpayers. I praise the Mayor and Police officers for putting our best interests first. We finally have a Mayor looking to fix things, not just make headlines and this is how the Council rewards him. This is completely ridiculous, the entire Council should resign immediately.

the boogie men are not sitting on the city council mayor fung.... also, can the scare tactics !! look to the union leadership if you want to see where the greed eminates.... take off your kid gloves and battle these goliaths once and for all.... playing 'nice' will not lead this city into more stable and tranquil budgetary times... in these turbulent and unpredictable financial times, the gall of the unions to expect to realize benefit compensation that us in the private sector will never realize.... it is obscene, and transparent... have the police department permanently eliminate the positions instead of deferring to the next contract... if you are serious in making concessions.. although our city council, like the mayor's office, is not perfect, there seems to be an honest and mandated attempt by the council to properly 'vet' this and all contracts... knee jerking into a hasty contractual signing is myopic and ultimately ill advised.... god bless us all, everyone..

Good for you Mayor Fung! I will take 1.4 million in savings any day before a tax increase or the City Council raiding our rainy day fund. I dont even believe there is a rainy day fund after the Napolitano administration left office with this council as his bag men. That polce department has been rife with corruption and favoritism for years. Save our taxes!! Prtect the rainy day fund!!

The mayor should lay off 'Dect.Donald Bucci'. I read about the arrest of a girl in the library that he arrested for cyberharrassing. The trial is still going on causing tax payers loads of money on a bad cop. The Cranston mayor should investigate Bucci to find out his connection with Roland Moretti owner of absolute fun and a know felon. I work at the library and saw the printout. She was clearly working on her website. brunacostumes.com . He also accused her of caling the moretti lady 60 times a day but was unable to come up with tracy moretti's phone list with Bruno's phone number on it. This is stupidity on the part of the Cranston Police. Why don't they work on real criminal case. Get rid of Bucci He's too old and out to shape to represent Cranston cops
