This young person is mentally ill. Where is the Conflict Prevention Intervention Training? This is something that happens all too much around the country. Where are the swat teams and mental health organizations in the community? Dealing with these situations is bad for the police and those they shoot at or subdue. If there were hostages that's one thing, if you are dealing with a mentally ill person and your only answer is shoot them, then you are not properly trained.

Kathy, you're probably a very caring person, but when the guy's standing there with a knife in a 10 by 10 room and he lunges at you...even after you hit him with a less lethal weapon...it's too late for a warm glass of milk and a tummy rub. The guy was already at butler and amazingly enough he wasn't cured of his troubles. He had already cut his own wrists, therefore If he's suicidal then he homicidal. I don't think anyone wanted this to end the way that it did. It's very sad, but cops aren't there to get hurt to make others feel better.

Just what page of the "excessive use of force handbook" are you quoting from?

No straight story on what went down. PO getting hit would suggest almost a crossfire situation. Let's see, 1- 18YO kid, 3 cops, tasers, trained, and 3 guns.I have not heard what the knife is yet. This just sounds to me like the taxpayers in NK are going down the tube for countless millions on this one

I want to see a publushed picture of the " knife " in question. That should be simple freedom of information info. I cannot begin to see how this could be hidden behind the guise of " ongoing investigation crap"

He had already cut his own wrists, therefore If he's suicidal then he homicidal. The one to blame is the psych hospital that let him out..His insurance probably ran out so out the door he went, It's not about patient care but about the money!!! Kid probably wanted to die why else would you cut your wrists? Suicide by cop...for the one's with no balls!!!

If you know you have a possible suicide by cop issue, you don't turn it into a demented Wish come true situation. There is training on how to deal with these situation. The officers were either not trained, or messed up. Yes, I believe the town will be sued. We just went through this ourselves with a family member a couple of years ago in another state. Carelessness hurts everbody in this one. I hardly think minimum manning was the issue.

From what I have read, the self inflicted wounds were not life threatening, and the old lady was going to bandage them, and take him to the hospital. Such wounds are common among teens today as a plea for help. Yeah, not the way I would have asked for help as a teen, but very common today. I could not make any case for being homicidal based on the limited guilded info that is floating around out there. Wonder who is paying the medical bills? Bet they are going to NK

all of you need to get your facts straigt about my friend mark. he did not have a gun John H. so you just shouldnt comment anymore. And these cops in NK are no angles, haha ive had to deal with them so many times. they draw there weapons every time they get the opportunity to.

These cops used excessive force there is no doubt about it the officers shot mark nine times and those are only the shots that made contact. one of the officers was hit with friendly fire. to me this we also have to take into consideration the size of mark, being overweight i doubt that he shows a crossfire happend which was bad positioning and planning by the police. could have move quick enough to be a real threat to three trained officers. this is a clear case of excessive force, and since i have had to deal with the police in this town i know that they are all power hungry and bored. so they get one bit of excitement and they jump all over it like a pack of hyena's. My friend mark is on life support due to nine shots. not one not two nine and you will try to defend the pigs that did this. I dont care weather or not you have a badge this is no self defense, if he doesn't make it this is straight murder. the goal is to shoot to disarm, not shoot to kill. so you tell me with twelve shots, nine that made contact, what was their goal.

Why don't you all stop acting like you know what happened. You DON'T, you WERE NOT there! Put yourself in that position & then think again. Just wait for all the info to come out, before you place any blame.
