Probation? He's going to get probation for not even accepting responsibility till after the test results came in. Enough lawyer tricks and time for those who are "responsible adults" to stand up and take their medicine.

He should receive the same punishment as any other human being that performed the same infraction. Punishments should not be handed out based on your status in the community. Do you think they would recommend that the average citizen not get jail time just for pleading guilty? Did Mr. Flechsig not have the same ability to decide right from wrong as any other person?
I believe this may have hurt the reputation of Davenport bad enough that I also believe Mr. Flechsig should step down. How does it reflect on the University when your top person lacks the ability to use sound judgement and reasoning to refrain from drinking and driving. A university is supposed to teach students to use their mind to think and make judgements, yet Mr. Flechsig lacks that ability. I have a degree from Davenport, and I regret having spent a very large sum of money that partially supported Mr. Flechsig.

He used extremely poor judgement and lied to cover it up. We call him a leader?

Who cares? Thankfully no one was injured when this clown got behind the wheel while he was impaired.

As far as college kids drinking underage, what has that got to do with a man in a position of respect and authority who made a poor choice to get behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated? Zero.

As for what should happen to him, I think the incident and his handling of it speaks volumes about his character.

From the article: "I have been taking necessary measures to address this issue personally including alcohol assessment, diabetes education, and counseling..."

It looks like he's still trying to hang some of this on diabetes instead of accepting complete responsibility for his actions. Time to man up and stop trying to shirk full responsibility.

This made the news for several reasons. One reason is who he is and what he does. Additionally, because the woman followed his car after he just about ran her off the road and was able to tell the police where he stopped. He then claimed it was a diabetic reaction, he then refused to do the standard testing and stalled long enough for his blood alcohol level to go down more.

Even in his apology, he seems very arrogant and is still bringing in the diabetes thing. I think he will be dismissed from his job as soon as people stop paying so much attention.

go back and read the original posts. He did run someone off the road (not nearly)- more than one car. But no one was hurt.

For all of the idiots who think that it is O.K. for him to be "just barely" over the legal limit and drive...are you kidding me? You can kill or injure someone when you're "just a little bit drunk" just as easily as when you're "a lot drunk." "Close only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes." Would you feel the same way if "this just a little bit drunk" man had injured or killed someone you love?
As an aside, take a look at all of the comments from people who think that GRPS teachers should be held to a higher standard and not strike. Is this man not an educator who should also be held to a higher standard?
He appeared to only be sightly over the limit because he refused to do the PBT Test at the time he was pulled over. By the time he got driven to the jail, processed and was then given the test, his actually blood alcohol level at the time was more than likely even higher when he was originally pulled over. The lag time for driving to the jail and being processed may have taken 45 minutes to an hour or longer; which offers time for the alcohol level to then drop lower.

Point blank he is an alcoholic that needs to be punished and definetly not be representing any University as their President.

He was also driving erratically, and drove another person off the road. Someone could have gotten seriously hurt.

This, my friend, should not be handled with a simple slap on the wrist.

I am sure you would think differently if it were YOUR mother or spouse he had driven off the road, correct?

The reason he should be fired:

It's not the first time he's done this, just the first time he's been caught. He is the head of a college that is dry. He lied. He didn't apologies until 3 days later and how many days after the insident he puts out a I'm sorry video. He tried using a serious desease for an excuse. He is not a noble person. You know he is expecting to get off and/or use his money and influence to so he doesn't get put in jail or loose his job.

He is the worse example for our kids. If he was a college student playing for a football team, he would have been kicked off the team and loose his scolorship, and sometimes "kids" make mistakes and learn from them. He is NOT a kid and he knows better.

I'm not angry, just stating the facts. Well, maybe I am a little angry. I just get frustrated with our judicial system that stick it to a person who can't defend themself, but when a person with money gets caught, they almost always get off. They can plead they will go to class, do community service and teach why it's bad, but at what point in time does this get old. Do you know how many people that would be doing this if it was that easy.

Welcome to America.

This country is not about justice for all. Its all about justice for the few with deep pockets. It an injustice believe me and it infuriates me to no end...but the reality is, this country is not about the everyday people making their dreams possible.

The fact that this man is getting away with a slap on the wrist is just another example about the inequality that is so prevalent in this society.

Somehow, I don't believe he's really sorry. If he didn't apologize by video he would probably eventually get kicked out if possible... Obviously he didn't have much care for the law before and he's trying to make up for the "opps!" he did. Don't believe at all.
He should walk into each and every class room at DU and off campus, and openly apologize to the students, instead of being the coward he is and doing it by video.

<quoted text>My,my.Aren't we clever when we get our knickers in a bunch. Perhaps that reference comes to you so handily because your own head is in a like position. This is only a news story because of this man's position otherwise the media would be publishing a lenghty list everyday of the people pulled over in Kent County barely over the limit. Why don't you come up for some air and a couple of Midol?
I have the right to my opinion, same as you. And yes, there should be a list of people who are pulled over for being 0.010 drunk. ANY inebriated driver can do damage, even crashing into a tree and hurting themselves. I want to know if my doctor, teacher, mailman, uncle, hairdresser, barber, pastor, etc, etc, are weekend or evening drinkers and then drive drunk. This man has no right representing students as a University President. By doing this, he is telling them it's OK to drink and drive, and it isn't.

By the way, he was DWHUA when he was caught. That is a police description for "Driving With Head Up ***." I also think that's where your head is.
