I agree with the punishment. If we let 18 year old kids have fun and heaven forbid let the class of 08 be the first to "promote" underage drinking in history, who's to say what will become of our undeniably utopian society. How about grounding Bush for sniffing the booger sugar.

AMY:: It don't suprise me one bit that someone from Dorr would consider this criminal act by these seniors to rise to the level of Dorr I/Q...

I need one of those shirts, I would prefer an XL if they are still available. What a bunch of crap, these are the reasons I hated high school, and after I graduated, never, ever, ever went back. They still have my senior year book because I absolutely refuse to walk in that building. Political bunch of b.s.

Lighten up! Just because they are making a joke out of .08, doesn't mean they live with the notion that it is ok to get ****faced every night. Kids just want to be cool at that age, even though all of us look back and see how stupid we really were...it's all part of growing up. Just let these kids grow up, or they never will.

wait, they have over 40 students graduating? and after all those years of hard work and making the choice not to quit they are being denied the fun part of there efforts because of a t-shirt? if its wrong (i don't see the big deal, seniors have been known to do worse)give them a warning and if they mess up again then suspend them

I hate to say it but discipline is needed here. However I don't think their joke is so horrible that it should warrant taking away their prom and commencement.

At worst I think they should get maybe a few days of ISS (in school suspension). What would be better would be to find a way to "think outside the box". I know this is something hard for the schools to do.

Maybe a better way of discipling these Seniors would be to have them all do some heavy research on Drinking and Driving and then have them do a school rally, maybe a skit or something, to talk to the younger classes about the real issues of drinking and driving.

Should this just be allowed to slid? No. This was intended to be a joke, but underage drinking is illegal; drinking/driving and underage drinking should be taken seriously- not made to be a joke.

In our age of "zero tolerance policies", I'm sure these students knew the rules and knew that the should would not take this with a light heart.

My own 6th grader recently had to serve ISS. Her horrible crime? There was an English text book that she needed to complete two assignments that she didn't get finished in class. This particular text book is not allowed to leave the classroom without permission of the teacher and checking it out. My daughter didn't remember to get it until the last moment of the day and the teacher was gone, so she just brought the book home.

She brought it back the next day, but English was not her first period class. She was "caught" with it and given ISS for taking it without checking it out and for lying about (when asked if she had permission, she told them yes).

I personally found it frustrating that she was given ISS for taking home a book that should be available to her. But, I also could not excuse her. She knew the rule. She also lied. She made a poor choice, there were other choices she could have made, and she had to suffer the consequence for it.

These Seniors know the rules. The made a poor choice. The should not be excused from the consequence of their choice.

this isn't going to stop these kids from drinking. in fact, suspending them will only encourage them to drink more.

School authorities are getting dumber by the day. People need to lighten up and not take life so seriously. On some things, it's better to educate than to punish about certain things. The more we tell our children and teens not to do something, the more likely, they'll do it anyway. It's best to lead by example.

Honestly, what is wrong with the shirt? Today's date is 05.16.08, right? So they are technically the class of .08, are they not?

And 'pushing it to the limit'!?!?!? How is that bad?

If they were caught with alcohol then charge them and ban them from their activities. But honestly, it is a SHIRT!

Sorry Mom, the only problem for your daughter was the lie. Had she explained the situation there would have been no problem. Sounds like the teacher has a power trip. We cannot keep rescuing our kids - consequences for actions I support - but all this over t-shirts. Our precious tax dollars are hard to come by, the schools know this better than most thanks to proposal A. Should we punish the olympics - 08 08 08?? Spend our tax dollars on the kids, not punishing them.

What is wrong here? Was anyone drinking on the High School campus? Did anyone break any rules by wearing a T-Shirt?
I figure the conservative suit that decided to take away their senior prom and commencement privileges is the nerd that followed all of the "zero-tolerance" rules during their prep years. Tools like this administrator should look in the mirror, I once saw him do a 2 story beer bong back in 78'. Come on George, give the kids their prom back, I can start telling more stories if you'd like!!!!!!

This it totally out of line. Since when did schools stop caring about the kids and worrying more about their attire? I think if they want to mandate the dress code then put in a student uniform. It seems to me that schools worry more about what the kids are wearing and not the grades they are getting. This t-shirt for one day is not the end of the world nor should this class miss their prom or graduation. If it is that important to the school to demean a seemingly harmless prank then do it appropriately. "ISS" is a good suggestion, Community service within the school district, or even a essay. Zero tolerance was for threats not for what the kids wear. This class could have done a far worse crime then to wear a t-shirt for one day. For those of you condeming them what was your senior prank? Honestly, don't blow this out of proportion.

Back in the early 80's the name of my high-school intramural basketball team was "Toledo Highway Commission." The t-shirts we wore during games had large THC initials on them.

I guess School admin. never figured it out.....
