Michigan faces more budget problems

This maybe a stupid question but, if nothing has been filmed here yet, they wouldn't know what revenues will be brought in yet, correct?

What is going on in Lansing? First, there is excess money and they are wondering what to do with it. Now, it seems there is another budget problem--no surprise to any of us. The one place they mention cutting is the education system. There goes our future!

The very thing we have to listen to Granmole preach to us about is the importance of eduacation. I believe she has said how important it is for our future. But when there are problems in the budget eduacation is the first thing that she goes after. I so can't wait till she is gone from office. When that day comes, someone needs to show her to the state line an tell her not to come back.

Well, you know Granholm. There is no logic to her ideas.

Let's look at the 500 million dollar prison budget. Do our prisoners really need HDTV?

Hmmm.. Great question Gail. I have to laugh when I hear Granholm tell us how important eduacation is to our future. While at the same time she has decided to take money away from the states eduacation system. Its always the first thing they go after. The very teachers unions that supported you an helped vote you in you kick them in the teeth an cut their budgets.Forcing them into layoffs.

SBO - you hit it right on the head. Increased taxes means less tax dollars collected. Reduced taxes means more tax dollars collected.

O.K. there are those of you who might not understand this. It has been proven time and time again that when taxes have been reduced treasuries have seen higher rates of taxes being collected. It is quite simple, more tax stifles and slows an economy while less taxes stimulate spending and create a healthier economy. If people have more money to spend it does a few really important things. It creates job and more sales taxe revenue. More jobs means more income tax revenue and so on. It is not a hard concept to understand. If they Michigan Legislature and the Govenor actually reduced taxes across the board by 15%- 20% then we might just see this State begin to recover.

I just signed a petition at Sec. of State's office when I renewed my licence a couple of weeks ago. The petition was to stop the life-time health insurance for the lawmakers. Hopefully it will pass.

There needs to be a constitutional admendment added to the state constitution, otherwise those in office now will still qualify for the benefit.

Lawmakers could vote to do away with it tomorrow,but WITHOUT the admendment, they would still collect the benefit.

They need to end it for themselves now.

It's a matter of affordability. Can this state afford such a benefit on the backs of the taxpayers.

If we have to pay for health care, they should too. When I retire, I will have to pay for supplemental insurance. They can certainly afford it. I signed it, too.

Yes, I love how we keep paying through the nose(and other places) for less coverage than ever before. I'm sick of being a middle class doormat for the government officials who don't pay for a thing.
