Revenues aren't growing because Granholm is killing this state with increased government spending, handouts and overtaxation. This ain't rocket science, it's been proven time and time again that increasing taxes reduces tax revenues. It kills businesses and consumers alike. She always uses schools losing funding as her crutch to cry about. I think the doctors should have removed her head from her **** while they were in there.

Are schools the only thing she knows how to cut funding on? Is there really nothing else that we pay for in the entire state budget???? Perhaps less on government employee pay? Or no provate car for the governor? Or move her into a smaller home and sell the mansion? How about cutting back on welfare payments to anyone who won't do community service hours to earn that paycheck? Maybe no upgrades to IT systems for the year? No out of country travel for government employees (we have the feds to negotiate abroad)?

What does the federal stimulus package have to do with Michigans revenues?

It does kind of irk that school funding is the 1st thing mentioned whenever budget woes surface. How about Medicaid, welfare, that kind of thing. That is a sink hole. Have them move on to "greener pastures", if there are any pastures greener than MI! Educated kids can move us towards a brighter future, whereas Medicaid, welfare & that sort of thing keeps us from moving ahead.

This is another great move by Jenny. How could we have made a $100 million dollar mistake. I can tell you it has something to do with her being clueless. Maybe you people that voted her in could help make up that loss.

MAYBE all you folk there should just quit working am sure the socialist people you vote in always have an excuse to raise your taxes, takes things like rights away from you but if you all leave your job, then the state will have to employ you and or give ya'll free housing ,foodstamp etc...bet that would get those socialcrats to work fast.
But remember you folks voted them in and the Unions that don't budge...well you'll reap what you have sown Heck maybbe that what they want they want to beat Kalifornia for being the first SOCIALIST State in Amerika.

No, but the entire production crew will stay in hotels, eat at restaurants, etc. The possibility of Michigan being viewed worldwide on film also puts us on the map; it's like free advertisement. Without the tax break the production companies go elswhere (no tax gain or loss from the status quo). With the tax break they come here and we gain the benefits mentioned above.

I'm already here and she raises my taxes and then offers somebody who "might" come here to shoot a film a tax break. Makes a lot of sense. I sure wish acting would have worked out for her. We'd be much better off if she was in Hollywood.

I am so confused...and I am an educated person...what are the "costs" that the State is squirming about? How does this work? Understandably Michigan will benefit from the "visitors" and I assume they have to pay for property usage, etc...where am I disconnecting?

As per the actual topic of the article; the movie filming incentives. Just like when you start a business... they say it takes two years of being in the hole before you turn a profit. I don't think we'll see the revenue coming in right away, but I do believe this could be one of the best things to happen to Michigan. We just have to have the patience, and we have to help it grow. If we all stand up and say, "It will never work!", then it never will. If we all pitch in and do our part to help it succeed, then it will. And things can and will change as time goes on, because that is the way business works.

As per the school issue, yes, I am miffed about this as well. I've got one in school and another ready to start in the fall. I agree about a cut in government pay. Otherwise, what is going to happen is the age-old adage of the rich keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer.

You are not confused, the people complaining about this are confused. There is no cost to the state (except the "cost" of the loss of potential gain from the benefits I mentioned earlier). I suggest that Michigan not tax any business. Could you imagine the influx of corporations coming to our state.

We could roll back the 27% pay hike legislators recieved in 2001. We could end life time health care for lawmakers. We could look again at
State Rep Ken Horn's "Two Penny Plan" that would have rolled back state spending and caused us to have a hike in our personal income tax. A tax hike that was voted for by many kool aid followers of House Majority Leader Andy Dillon.

So, whats the problem. State Dems like House Reps Andy Coulouris of the 95th and Lee Gonzales of the 49th refuse to roll back spending.
Maybe we should roll back the amount of bridge cards we give out? Maybe we should look at the 500 million dollar prison budget. Maybe we should not give Detroit 595 million to fix up Cobo.
Maybe we should be e-mailing our Reps every week and MAKE them work for us and not the party and lobbyists.

I have been waiting to hear this. I have been expecting it ever since they sold the tobacco settlement to balance the budget the last time. There went that revenue scource. I wonder what revenue scource they are going to sell this time?
