You know I really didnt think there was this much good humanity left in this world.Chris is not a bad kid he is the most lovable kid in the world but with all mentally challenged people there are two sides. One you have your buddy,a great kid,One who will go out of his way to help. Then you have this chris its like a totally different person cold, mean, and violant.I have asked everyone and they just say Dotor Jekall and Mr. Hyde good answer huh but now we see where that answer got us.I refuse to defend him for what he did it was wrong and he needs to pay the price for his actions.

As a mental health professional, I see every day those who are seeking to place people in lock-down treatment. Granted, folks are suffering but most can be held accountable for their choices--pre-meditated choices like severing a telephone cord. Chris appears to be sophisticated enough to manage his own needs but has some primitive/black-white thinking as a child. There is no perfect solution and there is no perfect system. Mental health staff work within their means to prevent, intervene, and stabilize the thousands who flood through the gates each year of mental health agencies. It is clear that Wendy is actively looking for ways to provide the best support. Unfortunately, as I've seen, sometimes a night in jail works wonders in changing "behavior" that fails to change with medications or on-going therapy or case management. We are talking about a mentally immature sexually developed adolescent. There will be challenges ahead for sure...but there are those who are committed professionally to seeing Chris succeed...network180 and other agencies.

I agree that mom did the right thing, even if it isn't the easy thing to do.

Network 180 is a joke. I called them trying to get help for my kids, and since they have insurance through their dad, they can do nothing. Anyone remember a few months ago when a Dr. Marcano from Pine Rest was arrested? They STILL haven't replaced him. Mine are among all the other pediatric patients that were dropped to go find someone else, and there is no doc at PR to help. I have been trying to find someone that takes his insurances for months with no luck. Yet, the network180 help that is so well promoted does nothing to help families that need the help.

Can anyone actually tell me what they do, because it sure isn't what they post on their website.

My sister has a child that has the same problem. She has begged the system to help in any way possible. She has gotten no help. Only when he is in trouble with school or the law. He is almost 18 now and at that point, society is going to have a real problem dealing with him. Looking in from the outside and seeing how she has dealt with it, there is no easy answer and no one person is at fault. Unfortunately your child will have to survive or not. You clearly did the right thing by turning him in. There are some parents that would cover that up. It doesn't help him or the victim to do that. My heart goes out to you. I wish there were a miracle drug or some kind of magical words that could make him better. Unfortunately there is not.

Way to go mom!!! I know that was probably one of the worse days in your life having to call the police on one of your children but in this case it was pretty much all you could do to prevent something horrific from happening. Thumbs up to you!!!!!!!!!

The mental health has be going away year by year. I know a mom that fought 18+ years to get help for her girl, but now at 20 something she in MDOC housing. Your saying this does not happen all the time think again, there are people all over that have this problem. I clap for this mother she had to do what she did, I am sure she doing the best that she can.

You are a jerk. How dare you say that to this woman. You don't know what it is like to deal with a mentally challenged child. I think she does deserve mother of the year because she did something instead of letting something terrible happen.

I'm cannot speak for Network 180, but I employed by another community mental health and I can tell you that as far as priority population is concerned, CMH's are primarily responsible for (and funded for) treating individuals with Medicaid or individuals who are indigent, and are not mandated to work with people who have other resources such as commericial insurance. People with commercial insurance usually have to go to private providers like Pine Rest since they have a resource that the less fortunate often do not have...health insurance! Your best bet would be to contact your insurance company and find out who is on their provider panel. Just so you know...it's not that the CMH is a joke, it's just that who they can take in for services is determined and monitored by the funding source, which is actually the Department of Community Health in Lansing. You've got a much bigger fight than with your local provider.

Have you not read the blogs here? Try doing it. This kid has been on many different pills to try and help with the behovior and I am sure that they have plenty to do with his teeth. I know this mother personally and I can tell you she has tried to get him into a dentist and because of the disabilities this child has it has not been easy. He had 4 temporary crowns in the front but lost all of them actually due to his disabiltiy in understand that they were not real. She has dental work set up for him at her expense of driving across the state to Ann Arbor to get it done.
Try acting a little less judgemental of this kid and try understanding what it might have been like to teach him and make sure he was brushing and flossing every single day. He is 17, should not be in the restroom with him at this age to make sure he properly cleans and brushes. Get real!!!!!

(TSinGR --Dump him off on someone else. mother of the year....NOT.)
I think that Wendy is a great Mom as is the Step-Dad. I sit here and see what most of you write and most don't know the family. You TSinGR, stick it. Everytime that Chris has gotten himself into trouble and the law was called, to make themselves look good on TV, they promised Wendy that they would help her help Chris. When the cameras were turned off, is was like screw you lady. She has done so much to protect Chris as has her husband. I commend the people who know that this was just about the hardest thing for her to do. This isn't the only hard decision that she had to make in her lifetime and won't be the last. Wendy Scott is a mother that others should follow. I know that she is a better mother than I am cause I couldn't have kept him in my home after he did some of the things he did.
I would like to see you TSinGR go through what this lady has and then some half wit as yourself comdemn you for it. I love this family and it tears me apart to talk to Wendy and listen to the pain in her voice from what she had to do. No one but the ones in the house knows the tears that she sheds because of this pain. For all you idiots that are suppose to be there (mental health, law enforcement) do the job that your paid to do. Like protect the public and stand up when the camera is on you and just tell everyone that your going to tell the parents to flake off when the cameras goes. You just want to make yourself out the heroes. Earn you pay!!!!

You ever try to get info from an insurance company when you aren't on the policy? Last time I tried to call one of them for Child Psychiatrists, one number led to an accounting firm, 4 other numbers the doc was no longer there, 1 only saw inpatient....and the rest were psychologists. When you have a single mom that is on disability (and has medicare)and 2 kids that also have special needs, a little help can go far. Unfortunately the system has no place for us. Even help trying to get in somewhere or keeping my kids meds filled until I can find them a doctor would be a ton of help. But, since my kids have Tricare (military) and this horrible HMO through my ex's current job, I'm stuck. The system is highly flawed. Even a point in teh right direction can help many.

To all you Idiots making negative remarks I think she did what she had to do to make sure that her son is not a danger to himself or others. What would you rather have her protect him and have him rape or maybe kill someone this time I think this mother has done the most hardest and bravest thing I have ever seen. Its idiots like you guys that failed this child encouraging him to fail.I really hate how morons get on here and sprout off on things they would NEVER have the mental capacity to understand. So I commend the Mom for doing what she had to do to keep us safe and herself and including keeping her son safe.
I take offense to this comment. I have never met this little **** in my life so to say I have failed him is quite a stretch. You are an a-hole of gargantuan proportions.

You should take offense because it is morons like you with your rude comments that make it possible for these kids to fall through the cracks.
As for him being a cute kid. Yes! He is! This mom has tried to get dental help also for this child and for you to make comments about it just goes to show your total lack of maturity.
Also, calling a kid with special needs or any kid for that matter names shows your true ignorance.
