Woodtv and Wzzm are claiming that a female police officer was hit by a car while trying to direct traffic yesterday. Nothing could be further from the truth- I saw the whole thing. The police officer's idea of directing traffic was standing in the middle of the road with a shotgun screaming at people. She wasn't "directing" people and she wasn't pointing anyone anywhere. The whole setup was a clustered mess. This particular gentleman was trying to go East on Fulton Street. It wasn't clear to anyone (himself included) that the road was blocked off. He tried to go through. She yelled at him to turn around. He talked back a little bit, but he DID obey her. As he was backing up, for some reason, she decided to try and grab at his car. He didn't even see her because his head was turned around! She missed, and tripped over her own feet. Her gun and walkie talkie went flying and she fell down to her knees. She was fine, but really pissed off.(Probably a bit embarassed as well because people were watching!) She tried to get the guys car door open and reached into the car and was swatting at his hands. She was very rough in pulling him out of the car, and he clearly didn't understand what the problem was. There were NO OTHER police officers around to witness this that I saw. She was it. Just wanted to share the truth since our media doesn't like to report it. Thanks for listening.

Yeah. Cops just go around waving shotguns around in public, screaming at them all the time. Which relative of the "particular gentleman" are you?

Sounds like another cop who shouldnt be one. Her standing in the road brandishing a shotgun puts people in danger not to mention it could have discharged when she fell. From your eye witness account it sounds like the officer should be charged with felonious assault with a deadly weapon. Please do the right thing and go testify thier are too many cops who twist the truth into lies. You may have set yourself up for a subpeona by mearly posting your eye witness account.

GEE...if a police officer is standing in the middle of the road with a shotgun...THAT SHOULD TELL YOU TO STOP RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE; that doesn't mean yell something at him/her and just go on your way. hmm..I wonder what he yelled at her...I'm sure it was..."have a nice day". No wonder we have so many "idiots" out there that RUN when the officer says "STOP". People...stay alert when driving. If someone is standing in the road, pay attention to what is going on...you might just save a life. If you have trouble "RESPECTING" the law, then odds are you have been in trouble yourself before.

I would be more than happy to. I also sent an email to the chief of police detailing what I saw as well. I hate when things like this happen, and I wouldn't have even mentioned it if I wouldn't have seen this false news story. Anyone who was driving on Fulton street east yesterday can verify that a female police officer was brandishing a shotgun while attempting to direct traffic. I stand behind my statement 100%. I also encourage the other people who saw this to come forward. There were several of you across the street from me watching what happened. Tell the truth.

Good Day, Well, there are good cops and bad cops. Perhaps there were other witnesses who can further verify the veracity of your observations? From what I could see in photos it also looked as if this gentleman was elderly? And what is his version of events? I would bet you that he probably lived just a few blocks away and was trying to get home... And a few more questions, no offense... Was she wearing a flourescent vest? I believe they are required to when directing traffic. And if indeed this is the case, I do applaud you for bringing it to the attention of the Cheif. The vast majority of officers do a fine and honest job. But there are the rare few... Please keep us updated, without jeapordizing the case. Thanks. Steelie

Steelie, She was NOT wearing any sort of vest. Her car was parked off to the side of the road. The gentleman was very elderly from what I could tell and was quite confused by the whole thing. When she pulled him from his car, he was clearly having a hard time walking as well. Not sure if he was crippled or had knee problems, but he clearly wasn't able to walk to the best of a normal person's ability. I guess my question is too, why the shotgun? I mean I have never seen a cop direct traffic have a weapon out. The whole thing was surrea!

Wow- Two questions- Why was she there "directing" traffic in the first place (construction, accident) and why would a person "grab" at a moving vehicle? Not doubting your observation, just asking a few questions. I for one would love to hear from other people who witnessed this incident. Sounds like she was having a sh!tty day and the poor gentleman was the straw.

Sounds like he thought her behavior was as stupid as you did and told her so and she got pissed off. Were the overhead lights on on her car? You should make sure your statement gets to the Prosecutor's Office as well as GRPD to make sure it does not get buried.

Sounds like she was having a sh!tty day and the poor gentleman was the straw. I was a little confused about this myself. Supposedly the incident happened at a home on Mack Street. Her car was parked sort of in front of the road to block of Mack street- it wasn't clear that she was actually trying to block of Fulton. A better idea would have been to park her car in front of Dennis, and direct people to head that way and get back on Fulton Street via Fuller. This was not done, and the whole thing was a mess. It was like this for at least 20 minutes before the guy pulled up. Other people were trying to drive through too. It's not like this was just him driving through.

No sirens, and no other police cars around at all. To give her credit, she was probably frustrated that she had no help. Fulton street on a Saturday when the Farmer's Market is going on is not a fun place to be.

Good Day, Indeed. Did she even have her lights on? To indicate she was there? I would bet that too is part of S.O.P. in such an event. I too have not seen an officer standing in the middle of the road with a shotgun. Now keeping in mind there was suspect on the loose. But she does have a sidearm, so why the need to stand in the middle of the street brandishing a shotgun while directing traffic? And thanks for helping to clarify his age. From the photograph I saw, he appeared to be old and his hair unkempt. My guess is that he was confused and she took her anger out on him. Like I said before, he was probably just trying to get home and perhaps did not understand why he was being prevented from doing so. And please keep trying to communicate with the Chief, if she treats an elderly man like this... then perhaps she should not be an officer. Steelie

Steelie Steelie- If I had to guess, I would say mid to late 60's. So not old, but oldER, if you will.:) She did have her lights on, as I previously said, but it was still not clear exactly what she was trying to do. Like I said, I watched her for a few minutes before this incident even happened, so even to me, after a few minutes it wasn't clear that she was directing traffic. Imagine coming up on this and her just start yelling at you. I would be a bit confused as well!

What a surprise. Another dishonest member of the GRPD lying on police reports. That seems to be the norm there. Her and Dwyer must have trained together!
