do you really think that companies are that honest to pay a person what they are worth and to treat everyone fairly.
A good company? YES. One that wants to keep productive employees? YES. One that wants to keep highly skilled employees in one of the few employment areas with job growth? YES.

I could throw my resume out there today and have offers tomorrow. Will I? No. Why? Because I have a great employer. Do I have a union? No. Would I vote for one? No. Though I know of companies that do have a solid need for them.

That is just beyond my ability to comprehend and I have not found one legal precedent to support that assertion. NOT ONE that proves a unionized company has to subject their right of who to hire to the union. NOT ONE. In every law I know of in this country it's the COMPANY who has the EXCLUSIVE right of who gets hired.
The company I worked for decades ago hired firstly those who had family and/or known connections to an employee...in the non-union portion of the company. Nepotism was strong and the political climate proved that out.
LOL...I don't need 'legal precedent', I've experienced it. As a matter of fact, my mom's friend who works at GM as an engineer was just talking about this very thing the other day. Why no comment about my in-depth analysis pertaining to your worries about the article? It's too much for you isn't it!!!(j/k)

Very wrong! I can't believe anyone except a business owner would believe such a thing. If they do look around, it has been supply economics for thhe last 7 years and the country is going down the tubes.
Supply side economics has been around for a lot longer than 7 years.I know I heard about it in the 80's with Reagan. If the country is going down the tubes, it is because Americans became accustomed to making a good deal of money for jobs others in the world will now do for much less. Educational options are available for those wanting to change careers and make more money. The days of a high school education being sufficient education are over. Americans will need to become lifelong learners, or they will be left behind.

They have to, if they want to keep their employees.
If I don't like what I make, I find employment elsewhere! If you are a good employee, they would want to keep you.

I've had plenty of friends who have worked for GM....as far as I know they gain labor from the union. The only reason they were able to gain employment there is b/c thier father or mother had been employed by the union. Unions play the same game....you must know somebody who knows somebody. This isn't even a 'right' per say. Nobody has a right to get a promotion, the same as nobody has a right to recieve a drivers license.
Wrong. Unions do not hire workers, the company does.

You are right. Successful companies would have no interest in angry, disgruntled employees. My husband's company works very hard to keep their employees happy in these tough times, and we are grateful for that.

How?
The company chooses who to hire.
The company assigns work.
The company manages the workers.

Please explain to us how unions control the "employee pool." Please give us an example from your personal experience of what you have seen.

It seems like that is what we have been seeing. Where we had only Americans competing for say 1,000,000 (any number) Americans competing for the auto jobs, with the world economy opening up, there are 3,000,000 (any number) foreign workers nowseeking those jobs as well, and they will take them for a WHOLE lot less. Americans had better get used to the idea that those jobs are not coming back at the old wages, and decide if they want to make less, or get into a new field and by going back to school.

Then your mom's friend who's an engineer is badly mistaken or a lier if they say the union can dictate to the company who gets hired. Not even GM management is dumb enough to cross that bridge.

In the union/non-union scenerio, the unionized sector causes a surplus of people who want to work in the union, but are not able to (I explained earlier how the monopolistic tendancies of the union create a restriction of employment opportunities/positions). These people who are unable to work in the union create a surplus in the non-union sector. This excess surplus of labor causes wages to be supressed in the non-union market. Due to the inflated wages of the unions, there is an arifical deflation of workers in the non-union sector.

The unions hold the rights to the employees. They act as a centralized 'employment center'. If this wasn't the case, then anybody could get a job at a unionized factory.....the wages would be bid down, and we wouldn't have the problem with the unions as discussed in this forum.
LOL.....the numbers I have to type to post this are 6666.

I've been told this by others as well. I don't know if it is true, but it seems to be the consensus.
