You're right about the self-centeredness of the driver, but missed the mark on everything else. Remember that none of us are perfect. Whether you believe in God or not, everyone will have to account for their mistakes. I just pray (yes, I said pray) that your Higher Power is more forgiving of your mistakes than you are.
This wasn't a mistake it was MURDER..

Anyone who "Finds it in their heart to forgive" this guy is an idiot. He was a habitual drunk driver, and obviously a worthless man, string him up.

How many of you missed the part about "MULTIPLE DRUNK DRIVING INCIDENTS"? And the maximum sentence is 15 years????? That beautiful little girl and her entire family got life - why does he deserve to get a lighter sentence? The obsession with smoking and second-hand smoke has taken over this country while the multitude of drunks keep killing innocent people daily. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!! Go to any sporting event. They will sell you all the beer you can drink and then tell you MUST leave. But if you light up a cigarette they will arrest you and take you to jail. Justice?? For who??
WELL SAID!!!! All the "clean air" bumper sticker people sitting in an arena watching the Supercross or even a hockey game with all those LIGHTS ON!!!!

I think the State needs to link these drivers to their CDLs too. They can hit the professional licenses and drivers licenses of deadbeat parents; why not this too.

Please stop making excuses for this drunk, not all people who drink to much are alcoholics which I agree is a disease, but alcoholism is the new excuse for every idiot who can not say no. There are alcoholics and there are drunks to different animals, both should have a tatoo across their foreheads if they have been caught drunk driving, that they are Drunk Drivers, in red if they killed someone, embarrassment is a better deterant than jail

I can honestly say that I, personally have driven drunk in the past. Thank God I never hurt anyone. This tragedy is my personal reminder that I will never do it again. God bless everyone involved and let this be a tragic lesson to us all!

He was a habitual drunk driver and yet he drove semi trucks. How does that work? My friend who drives truck always said that one DUI meant he lost his commercial designation and thus his livelihood. Where is the state of Michigan DMV on this one?

<quoted text>So you're God who tells people can burn in hell. Everyone commits sin for no one is perfect. His misdeed is between him and God. Forgiveness and healing will take time, for their will be many stages of anger, denial, and grief before it happens. He is probably very remorseful what he has done, and the state will provide some justice, but his conscience is what he is dealing with more than any punitive or inflammatory words are said back to him. We must pray for him as much as the little girl and her father who was hurt bad.
the spirit of what you say is true, but words are easy when it wasn't your kid, right?

may be people will finally realize alcohol, drugs, and all other addictions are a disease. The alcoholic will not recover until he makes the choice to get help and the others around him provide him access to help such as AA and alanon for victims of alcoholism. Condemning the alcoholic and writing laws to stop drunk driving and underage drinking will not stop the alcohilc from drinking and in turn stop drunk driving. People who stay home drinking and not drving aren't exempt from the disease for they cause divorce, domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of destuction of property and worst of all destroy relationships in the family. The drunk driver should have been given help long before this ever happened. Liquor is just a symptom of the problem. The real problem centers in his mind and the thoughts he gets from his memories in his past interactions with the people throughout that past.
Even when you are an alcoholic, it is no excuse to
get drunk in your car. Don't make your problem,
someone else's problem. It is a rule I live by.
Because someone is alcoholic, it doesn't make it
less bad when he drives drunk. Actually I think
it makes it worse. He of all people should find
alternatives, because it happens regular. No,
no pity for this guy. He killed a little girl.
When I look at my daughter and imagine how it
would be to lose her because of an idiot,
alcoholic or not, I feel so much anger towards those people who drink and drive. This guy has
to pay for what he did, because he knew what he
did. It is not a secret that driving under influence is bad. Not even to the alcoholic.

I feel sorry for the family of the little girl.
I hope they find the strength to deal with this tragic lost.

"Well, this Richard guy will have an Imprint on his Heart and Soul for the rest of his earthly life, because of his stupidity!!He does have to live with his guilt. His life will never, ever be the same..The thing is he "KNEW" he was too drunk to drive when he left.He could have asked for a ride,or at least called a taxi. That dear little child had her whole long life ahead of her..it was cut short,by a senseless Drunk driver that should not have even been on the road..That Dear Blessed Angels face..keeps going through my mind,as I write this...I didnt mean to say"He can burn in Hell"I appoligize to his family,it wasnt their fault.I should not have said that about their son.You are right, I am not the judge here..But he will be judged in the next life{Heaven}I believe that GOD will not be happy, and will not Forgive him.And that is worse..Heaven wont be his home in the next Life.It was senseless.inhuman.totally on called for at his age of 40.At least he still gets to live.thats more than April can do,she had no choice..they were minding their own business going down the road to have Precious time with her father and family, thats all. They werent bothering anyone.[[I have a 10yearold niece,I cannot imagine life without her in it.]]..Aprils family had their Heart tore out by Richard..No appoligizes in this world will never bring back**that precious, dear child.APRIL**to her family....Yes,I am very Bitter.."

Does Hills family really understand what happened? or are they just in shock that their family member did such a thing? They act as though Hill is a Victim here. And he is going through just as much pain. Somethings not right with that picture. He Killed a Human being and thats plain and simple. But has it hit home to his family? I dont know I think they are in shock and the reality of the situation hasn't hit home yet. When it does hit them. They will be torn apart.

There was a pickup truck that was on the wrong side of the road driving and I had to swerve around him and almost went in a ditch. I think this person was drunk. I had to beep my horn to get his attention as I was swerving out of his way. It was scary. So I know there is Lots of people driving impaired.
