We should go beyond just medical marijuana. The government should just tax it and sell it in stores like cigarettes since people are going to smoke it whether it's against the law or not. It would be an additional source of revenue and laws could be formed as to the purity of the product. Besides, it's no worse than alcohol and that's legal to buy.

A dear friend of mine benefits from it medically now, but has to break the law to gain the relief. Another friend has Glaucoma (sp?). I have Arthritis of the neck and spine and degenerative disc disease.

Why should any of us, or anyone else have to take harmful drugs to get the relief that Marijuana offers? Steroids, Opiates, "end of life" Cancer pain meds, and other meds have SERIOUS and DANGEROUS side effects... especially when taken longer than short term.

As soon as the Fed sees an opportunity to generate taxes, Marijuana might become completely legalized. Until then, let us as a society benefit from the medicinal use of it.

Amen. Just think of all the jobs it would create! Growers, harvesters, and best of all- quality assurance testing! Yes, please!

Absolutely YES. C'mon Michiganders, get out and vote in November & let's add Michigan.

Since 1996, twelve states have legalized medical marijuana use: AK, CA, CO, HI, ME, MT, NV, NM, OR, RI, VT, and WA. Eight of the twelve did so through the initiative process. Hawaii's law was enacted by the legislature and signed by the governor in 2000, Vermont's was enacted by the legislature and passed into law without the governor's signature in May 2004, Rhode Island's was passed into law over the governor's veto in January 2006, and New Mexico's legislation was signed into law by Governor Bill Richardson on April 2, 2007.

I think it should be legal for MEDICAL purposes ONLY. There are so many other drugs for pain, etc. that can be prescribed, why not marijuana? Helps pain for Cancer patients, glaucoma patients..probably others too. Should be available ONLY by prescription, as are other pain killers.. I just don't understand why hydrocodine, oxycontin are available by prescription...waay storonger. Why NOT marijuana??

P.S. Have never even tried "weed" myself..other pain killers post surgery, prescribed..yep.

There are waaaaay too many people serving long sentences in prison at taxpayer expense for pot charges. Also, it seems to me pot is a whole lot less of a problem than, say, alcohol. In the long term there are probably bad effects on the body, just like any other drug, but I'd be willing to bet it's a lot less damaging than many other drugs.

Oh yeah- and it makes you so mellow. Nobody gets stoned and beats people up!

Bottom line, they can't control if you grew it yourself, and is the ONLY reason it is illegal.

Secondly, all this "medical" talk is such a laugh.

Well put. In my humble opinion, only the un-informed will vote to keep it illegal and out of the medical community.

I really dont have a personal opinion on it for personal use. See pros and cons to it. But for medical reasons I see it as a positive aspect.

I think there are going to be to many other issues for it to be totally legalized

There's no shortage of ingorance in the great state of Michigan. We keep voting for higher taxes during a recession...lol. What makes you think that they won't vote to make people continue to suffer needlessly.

Look, if anything can help ease the suffering of pain in people, I say let them use it. good gosh, it isn't addicting and it seems much safer than most of the pain killers out there now.

You hit the nail on the head with your first sentence. When a person has out of control pain, they will do ANYTHING to make it stop. I am proof of that. MJ cannot stop uncontrollable pain, however it sure can and does alleviate the risk of it reaching the impossible stage for me. If it doesn't pass, the States that do allow it are nice areas to move to.

It's been my experience that the ignorant make it to the polls on election day. Even the dead ones... which always vote 100% Democrat...lmao. Hmmmmm. You know what?... that might work to pass this bill
