Good Day,
Indeed Gentle Taz. Every year we hear of a few "out there" cases of someone being busted for something like their tenth DUI! Under Michigan law, there is no way to stop someone who is determined to drive drunk. Plus - with a supposedly crowded prison system, they won't spend much time in jail. On top of that the Govenor has made it quite clear she does not want these folks crowding our prisons and has set early release for many of these folks. Remember, corrections makes up half of the State's budget. Half! But is there any way to truely prevent drunk driving int he State? I am not sure one could completely mitigate the possibility. Even if we all had to have breathalyzers in our cars, someone will find a way around it. Even if bars had breathalyzers, it might help a bit. But then there would be those not using it. This certainly is a tough one... Steelie |
Do you talk to your kids with that mouth? Certainly we can communicate on a higher level than that. |

No one stated anywhere how many children a family can have.
The fact remains that it is the parents responsibility to protect their children to the best of your ability. Should an adult stay home. My answer, yes. I have five children. Our only vehicle, a Ford Windstar, broke down 2 days ago. It's not a cheap fix. We simply cannot afford to fix it right now, and the cost to get it up and running again doesn't make it worth fixing it. We have children to get to school though. We live in Grand Rapids and two of our children go to school in Kentwood. For a quick fix that we can afford we are buying a cheap old, but kept in perfect running condition, Delta 88. We can only fit five of our seven family members. Guess what, this causes a problem. Either someone is not going to be properly seated and seatbelted in, or we don't take the entire family anywhere! Guess what our choice is, as much as it hurts? We aren't taking our entire family anywhere and with our budget right now it's likely to be this way for a long time. It's called responsibility and hard choices. So we can't take our entire family anywhere at the same time. It sucks. We're living with it though until we can afford another vehicle that will properly and safely fit our entire family. So, someone misses out on seeing Grandma. To me that is the better option compared to the very real possibility of an accident and someone being badly injured or dead... Cause you, if a child of mine dies, well that means Grandma won't get to see my child ever again!

9 out of 10 would have signed in?? You aren't, so you are that one, huh?? How many screen names have you used? Up to about a thousand now? You seriously need to get a life. Your jealousy has really taken you over. |

False bravado aside, no one need protect Ms Duck, she seems quite capable on her own. There is no code violation (blue or otherwise)speaking against something you feel is inappropriate. As long as you can state those thoughts in a concise way. Now as for your "street cop 101" reference, there are only a few rules under that heading. They are in order of importance : Do no harm, Honesty , and a good effort for good rewards. Nothing more, or less. Have a good day. |

That's too much to ask for. It's much easier to just keep using different names and then accuse everyone of doing that. It doesn't matter if they are doing it too, just as long as everyone else gets blamed for it. |
If you check my last response to "cracker", I didn't mention his speaking out against what he thought was inappropriate. I don't care what his opinion is. What I didn't appreciate was his sarcastic and snide post stating that 5ducklings was the spokesman for GRPD, etc. That was not just his opinion, that was him being an a-hole. If you think it's cool to be a j/a to another cop's wife, then I guess I can't say much else to you. One of MY rules for street cops is treat other cops families with respect. I imagine you would expect the same for your family. Would you not? As far as YOUR list of 3 rules for street cops...After 15 years of working the streets, I don't think I need you to tell me what the conduct of a street cop should be. Have a good night and stay safe. |

Well you are already paying for people with no insurance, you are already paying for all the drunk driving accidents, you are already paying for people who don't have jobs, health insurance etc. We pay for alot of things that aren't fair. If it was standard for a vehicle think of all the drunk driving accidents that would not happen. Just a thought, a quick thought mind you because rome wasn't built in a day. |

It is your choice. So if something ever happens because your kids are not in restraints who's fault will it be? I was a "no seat belt" person til I was 25, but my children never ever went without theirs. When my children got older they convinced me to wear my seat belt, and I have done so ever since. Yesterday, it saved my life. |

I HAVE BEEN A SEAT BELT PERSON SINCE THE 60's If the cars had them . After rolling my carover at I96 and 28th way back that isnt the point i am trying to make; But there are circumstances where not everything is cut and dry.Not everybody can afford a small bus to transport their families, me included and with the rising gas prices i could never affrd to drive two vehicles to detroit. btw havent gone down there in 2+ years . Hgher gas prices smaller vehicles what are families to do ? Unless you are the PERFECT ONE and she knows who she is i guess we all need to be just like her HEART LESS! |

If being a responsible adult equals heartless then count me in and thank you for the compliment.

so when your mother or dad passes i guess you ALL wont be going to say goodbye and pay respects so so sad that in this day and age we ADULTS can can less about the ones that reared us . BTW they didnt have seatbelts when i was a kid. my parents were so irresponsible to lug us back and forth to cadillac to see grandparents. THANK GOD they did pity the onesthe never get to know theirs ...due to such responsible parents nowadays. BTW the route to cadillac was 131 that was two lanes period. |
Speed limits are higher now - more cause for seatbelts, and people are in a bigger hurry. Things change and seat belts save lives. Your children depend on you to keep them safe. They don't have a choice. Teach your kids the value of sacrafice for the bigger picture don't teach them to break the law because life is unfair. |

You are too funny. Sorry, I can't be baited that easily. Not that it's really any of your business, but my Father passed away October 2007 at the ripe old age of 56 years old. And showing respect? If I would have driven my children in a vehicle where they couldn't be properly seated and belted in, my Father probably would have jumped from his grave just to let me know exactly how upset he was with me. My Father felt just as strongly as I do about keeping my children safe, strongly enough that he kept carseats and boosters for his own vehicles. If I had driven my children unsafely to my Father's funeral, I never would have heard the end of it from my family. And to bring up the past, that is just plain hilarious. Stretch a little harder. Just because something was acceptable in the past, doesn't mean it was an intelligent choice. Once upon a time in our society, a man could hit his wife and society would do nothing about it because it wasn't societies business to get involved in issues between a man and his wife. Again... just because it "was" alright doesn't mean it is now, nor does it mean it was a good choice. |

I couldn't have said that any better! |
