I was forced out of Michigan a little over two years ago because of the joblessness. I have lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma ever since. We now have record low unemployment rates here...2.9% to be specific. The trick...crack down on illegal immigrants. Last November a new law went into effect here called HB 1804 (House bill).
http://64.233.167.104/search?q =cache:dvFJSZC5udAJ:webserver1 .lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08HB/HB1 804_int.rtf+hb+1804&hl=en &ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=u s&client=firefox-a

I think that it is time for Michigan to also start eliminating one of America's biggest problems. When the illegals started bailing out of Oklahoma it allowed more Americans to get back to work.

Interesting to note that auto manufacturing is up 58% in Alabama. Yet, the Govenor says all the jobs are going overseas, and we should all go into health care.

I wonder why we did not get the 1.1 billion dollar Hyundai plant that went to Montgomery Ala,
with 4,000 full time jobs at 14 per hour.

I wonder why we did not get the 17,000 jobs that
went to the Mercedes plant in Vance, Alabama?

I wonder if the reason "you ain't workin" at one of those possible Michigan auto plants is because of the UAW or U Ain't Workin.

With Michigan's super-high taxes, lowering wages, social control laws (no more smoking at the bar), and the severe illegal alien problem in west michigan..... I'm about ready to leave.
The only good thing about Michigan was the good paying Union jobs, and those are disappearing, there's no reason left to stay.

Those jobs went to alabama out of corporate greed, not the UAW. The UAW has never moved a single job out of Michigan, never moved a job out of the country, or closed a plant....but corporate greed does it every day.

The reason is the south is full of 'right to work' states--'right to work for less' that is. These jobs pay less than 1/2 of what they do in any union plant and have far fewer, if any, paid benefits. The next step is Mexico, India, or wherever else they can go to make more money. These states are full of the 'working poor'--sort of like Walmart, only they make cars.

And most likely can't afford to buy the cars they make.

The UAW may not have moved jobs out of Michigan, but they certainly have driven jobs out.

The UAW is the big reason transplants have never considered building plants here in Michigan.

Corporate greed? Ford, Chrysler and GM are losing money hand over fist right now, struggling to survive.

Let's see, are you saying that these manufacturers can not open a plant here without it being UAW?

Stevenvv, I'm saying that, in my opinion, if the state Democrats want the UAW support during election time, they do not support non UAW plants from coming to Michigan.

I would like to see Michigan be the state that builds all cars. We have to look beyond the big 3.
If workers want to unionize, fine. If not, they don't have too. I would love to see a GM plant next to a Hyundai plant, next to a Mercedes plant.
I would like us to open our eyes and minds a little bit and make Michigan the state that builds anything that runs on a wheel.

Yeah I know me too. My pointed question was directed at the fact that the Unions aren't the reason these factories are not locating here, it is more to do with taxes, fees, enviromental issues, utilities expense, health care cost, property values, the infrastructure and allied labor needed for industry is leaving, etc etc etc. Michigan right now is a non business friendly state. We went from business friendly to non friendly in 6 years. While Jennifer is overseas, local companies are moving out. Some high techs are moving in and around but they are getting massive subsidies, now the small business owner is being taxed out, when the subsidies are gone it is adios amigos.
