Just another example of a company that prospered under the original owners and as soon as they pass it off to their kids, it goes down hill. These business owners really should make their kids endure the struggles that they went through building their business so they will not watch their greedy kids run it into the ground.

This company used to prosper and treat their employees great. Now look where they are. They take away from their employees who work in the plants while the white collars sit back fat and rich.

i do think you realize that the current ceo helped build that company. he wasn't some spoiled brat that was born into royalty. mr. lacks has done well for the company for a long period of time. you have to remember that because the auto industry is slumping, so does Lacks.

Concerend, you have no clue what you are saying, i am an employee for Lacks, and have been for 20 years, and u my miss-guided friend have no clue what you are saying, first off, all the lacks kids have worked in these plants, and as a matter of fact the third generation is working here now. secondly, this company has had record profits under the watchful eyes of the 2 sons. Since the boys have taken over, Lacks has added hundreds of jobs to there workforce, built 3 brand new plants gave millions of dollars to chairtys. The Lacks have always treated there employees fairly. Times are changing, or havent you noticed that, do you not know Lacks makes automotive parts? Do you see any automotive suppliers doing good right now. I dont think so. I see them leaving the country, or selling out, or just closing the doors all together. Before you decide to run ppl into the ground, I suggest you get your facts straight.

Although the story doesn't say what kind of money is involved, the extension of 18 months benefits shows a company that actually does value their employees.

If the cash is good, a smart healthy person could really make a go with this.

As downsizing goes. This is a class way of doing it.

To long term: If you have been there so long, which by the way, so has my father, then you know, you used to get profit sharing, which has been eliminated, summer and winter bonuses which you no longer receive. Your pay raises are a joke. Lacks has done a lot for the community, I will grant you that. Look at the cancer center. That is wonderful. The point is, they want you blue collar workers to give up your pay, but they still line their pockets.

I really hope "concerned" is fixed. Anyone with that IQ shouldn't be allowed to breed. It's also those kind that will vote for Obama. Blame any successful person you can find for your lot in life. That's much easier than living with the fact that you're a loser.

Not blaming the original successful owners of the place. They worked hard to get the company on its feet and growing. Putting the blame on the spoiled kids who run it to the ground. Look at Amway. Same thing. The kids get the company handed to them and forget about the hard work that their fathers put into it. They take away all the incentives that their fathers gave the workers for doing a great job helping them to suceed but expect their employees to work even harder to make them more money.

Alot of these postings on this page are dumb a--words being written by obviously people jealous of a hard working family that started this company out of a garage in their back yard! I had the opportunity of meeting the men that started this company and are NO longer with us today! Never once did they make me feel any less than they are. In fact being a hourly employee (still) myself working on the line - how the heck did you think that we spoke to them --- they took the time to walk on the floor to chat to us! We weren't strangers to them---We might not have there blood, but we are all a family here @ Lacks!
Finally - To all the ignorant SOB's that like to trash talk on a issue that they know nothing about, go buy another 20oz of beer (with all your change), smoke another cig while you are sitting in front of your computer at home --- I will be punching in for work tomorrow morning for a company that cares about their employees!

Well at least you have worked for a company that could give a raise. And as far as bonuses, that is what they are - bonuses. What is wrong with some of you people. The Lacks family has done the right thing. Look at Steelcase, all those factory people who got those big bonuses spent them faster then they got them, new cars or boats or campers, now these people may not even work for them due to the downsizing. Some of you continue to kick the giftfhorse in the mouth, shame on you. Look around, no one in Michigan is safe in the jobs they do, and be thankful for each day you are employed. If you don't like it move to the state of Wyoming, I hear they are hiring everything!

Once again companies are trying to buy people out, when the CEO's of that company need to sell some of their boats and cars and put money back into their companies. But they just like to stick it to the little man.

I am a Lacks employee, and I do believe Lacks has my best interest at heart and there own, They want to be able to continue to prosper, they have that right after all the years they have been in business, and given to there employee's and community, Lacks didn't have to offer any package deal, they could have layoff 3% of their work force without a word instead they are giving those employee's who have work for Lacks for a long time a good package deal, (not Oh my God deal)the ones who want to retire but have a couple of years to go but need the insurance, should take the opportunity and enjoy life.

Typical pro-union/pro-liberal dribble. It's always the CEO's fault.

Let's remember why people start companies. They do it to make money. They didn't decide they wanted to go into business to give people jobs. They needed help and found people willing to sell their time for money and some benefits.

When people hire on for a job, they should keep that in mind. They aren't becoming shareholders (usually) or part of the owners family. They are merely selling their time for their employer's leverege.

I worked at lacks for 14 years my wife is still an employee. For the most part its a good place to work. Id worked at Amway as well and Lacks was much kinder to there workers. However there is enough dead weight in middle managment at Lacks to fill the Titanic. Also they will use this buyout to keep the people that kiss up and let go the people who work there butts off everyday and got no where. And yes Me my wife our daughter and our cat are voting for OBAMA

Hmmm, I'm assuming President Obammy will keep companies like Lacks from thinning their work force?
