So why do I need a CCW permit if I can just strap one on . What a concept open carry who'd a thunk it ,lets see how long this will last before some politician tries to change the law. Cant wait for the fireworks. I would almost bet if I walked down the street with my rifle strapped across my shoulder I would end up in jail or dead.

I wish that I knew about this event prior to today! Only 30 people attended?? Let's push for 300 or 3000 next time!! I think this was a very educational tool to prove that law abiding citizens that legally own guns are not a threat to society.

What a joke. If this was done for political gain, it backfired. Again, Hastings made the news, looking like a bunch of gun toting hicks. Change - we need change in Barry County. Remember to vote!

What kind of message are we sending to our children? Great it's okay to openly care weapons as long as we have a piece of paper! When I drove through town today I felt very uneasy and very unsafe. And believe me, I'm sure this was a political ploy!

At least you knew who was armed and that if a ne'r do well was around that he would have beat feet for a better place to do his nefarious deeds.

This is a movement that is popular in various places out in the Western half of the country. I do not think that it makes the CCW license obsolete. There still will be many times that carrying concelled will be needed. The important thing to remember is that the weapon has to be insight at all times. It can not be covered by any clothing. So as long as you do not cover it with your shirt tail or your coat it is legal. Yes, you most likely would have to have many discussions with most any police who questioned you about it. To a degree I think the movement makes sense. Optimistically I would like to think most who chose to open carry would be people who had good training in the use of there gun. As a female the idea of open carry does remove the question anyone might have about if I was willing to defend myself. I have taken gun training and practice at least once a month with my revolver and long gun. Mitzi

you know with all of the fire arm "accidents" or murders that have happened in barry county this is the last thing i would expect from people from my hometown... just a couple of months ago a young boy was shot on accident by his friend,, by them doing this rally all they are doing is promoting gun violence in my eyes,, what the heck are they trying to do to barry county?? are they trying to turn it into a place like k-zoo or grand rapids or even detroit,, i think it was wrong of them to do this it does not teach gun saftey or make kids more aware of gun saftey only parents can do that.

It was political. I don't think the sheriff realizes how dumb this stunt was and how badly it makes him look. Or how badly it reflects on the county

and not to start a argument here but we dont see our selfs as gun toting hicks!! yes accidents happen but when they do it is mainly because the parents dont do enough to keep their children safe,, i tell you what all of our guns are locked up in fire proof safes not those things they call safes with a glass front, and our keys are hidden where our child could never get to them.. there is absoultly no way for anyone with out permission to enter it.. and thats the way it should be! but some people dont see it that way

Amendment II A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. I like knowing that if I want a gun, I can have a gun.

As long as you legally can possess a weapon you can carry it openly, that has been the law for a long time, even before the must issue CCW law. The problem was always transporting them in a car, which the CCW law solved. As long as you do not brandish it you can walk down any street in MI with a gun on your hip or over you shoulder.

I have talked about guns in other topics. So many of you no my stance on guns. But the more I think about it I really don't want to see people walking around with guns on there sides. I just don't see the need. But with that said I always have a weapon with me when I travel . If I go out of town its under the seat. I know the law but the law I go by is the second amendment. No one needs to know unless its the unfortunate criminal who tries something. As far as a message to our children. I was a child once weren't we all. I have always had guns and guess what no one has gotten hurt around me.All I know about this rally I heard on WOOD TV so you know I didn't get the whole story but I would say any type of rally like this is political .And I also don't think it helps the cause for gun ownership.

I have guns but do not parade around town with them strapped to my hip. Come on, we all know what this stunt was about.
