The rising price of fuel = shocking. The rising price of food products = revolting. The rising sun = priceless!

I went grocery shopping today too. I had to put several things back on the shelves, too pricey! Have to tighten my belt yet again - I'm being squeezed to death now as it is. Don't know what the answer will be.

This is not just here, but all over the world. Don't know where or if it will end anytime soon.

Will be hurting a lot of businesses, and that will snowball to more job losses!

Being on a fixed income doesn't leave much room to squeeze!

Helloooo- since when are potato chips a staple? Needless to say, basic food items are increasing right along with the non-essentials. It makes it a lot easier to not buy the extra "treats" that we don't need - and I for one am putting more energy into a garden this summer!

FYI: I bought a big box of dehydrated Carnation milk. The sticker on the box said $9.16. The old price sticker was $6 something (the last 2 digits were under the top sticker so I couldn't read them). Even if the price was $6.99 for the old price, this box went up at least $2.17! How are families supposed to afford price increases like this?

okay, I am just wondering, but why does Woodtv, keep doing these stories, we are all smart enough to realize now, that gas AND diesel are going up and not coming back down (which I dont get why diesel is more money, it never used to be, its the cheapest to make) so in turn that would mean groceries are obviously going to go up, so why dont our wages.. They need to start compensating us for the extra money we are spending on all this stuff, JUST TO STAY ALIVE! I mean dont get me wrong, it was a neat idea how they did this to see what people are spending extra, but its about time something happened!

And I dont get if they keep doing these stories, why cant they (meaning any station) take this stuff to higher authority and get the ball rolling on trying to make something happen about the prices. My uncle is an independent truck driver and we figured out just last year alone (mind you, before diesel went above 3.50ish) he paid over $40,000 for diesel. That was over half of what he made last year, not to mention he has to pay out of pocket for everything, truck repairs, work clothes, etc. so after everything was taken out of his checks, which wouldve been a little under 80 grand, he only made around $27,000 and obviously thats before taxes too.

I mean, my gosh, I make a few pennies over 11 dollars, I cant even buy 3 gallons of gas for an hours worth of work and I used to be able to fill my tank on less than 2 hours of work!(about 20 dollars, a tank, when I first started driving) at about 1.35ish

We're all going to wither away to nothing because we wont even be able to afford to drive to work, to make money, to buy food or pay for our houses, etc. And then the banks and all "higher up" people wonder why no one can keep their houses anymore. We go from not even being sure we're going to have a job from day to day, let alone be able to survive. And yet Bush doesnt seem to care, oh but then I forgot, he's an oil man, so he doesnt care, he gets a nice cutback from all the prices.

it's not the grocery stores fault, they have to raise their prices in order to compensate the truck drivers gas money, so they can get the products to the store.

Too bad you all moved out to the suburbs where you have to drive to get all your food & clothes. Used to be you could walk to the grocery and hardware stores... but NO, you wanted to drive there instead... so now all we got left is Meijer, Home Depots that are placed miles from everybody.

Happy Driving people!!! It's your/our own fault! Don't pass the blame on to someone else!

Being a business owner that deals with the sale of food, our product has doubled in the last 2 years. The only explainations we have gotten are bad growing seasons, over seas demand, or ethenal which I myself do not see the benefits of yet. Why is it that we are exporting our goods only to raise the prices here at home with many families already strapped and on tight budgets? It seems like Governement pricing is looking only at there bottom line, while ignoring the needs of our middle and lower classes. We are all in the same boat and everyone is feeling the crunch. Hope we can all hang on!

I think Melissa is right. The grocery stores are probably paying more from the wholesalers that they are buying their products from and they are paying more in shipping and fuel costs and that increase has to pass down to us or all we have is just another business closing and more unskilled laborers out of jobs. The problem is more than just the rising fuel costs. It has to start with the oil industry and they need to be made to account for their billion dollar PROFITS. To Karl: I didn't move to the "suburbs". I've lived in a small town my whole life. There isn't room for everyone to live within walking distance of the stores. Some people have no choice but to drive where they need to go or do you suggest that we ALL move to the big cities, where fuel emissions pollutions are worse then anywhere else? This issue has nothing to do with where people live. It has to do with corporations making their fortunes off the backs of people who are just trying to survive.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Lets have as many kids as possible, get the largest most inefficient vehicle as possible, and move as far away from the place we work that we can stand! Thats a wonderful idea!!!

Idiots. I hope this crap puts some sense into you.

BTW I spend more on car insurance ($36 a month) than I do on gas, while working and going to school. Public transit and bicycles are a wonderful thing.

People wanted to deregulate the market... and its probably the same people who are complaining now. We aren't talking about emissions here, were talking about you people being able to cope with the extra cost of groceries and fuel. There is plenty of room here, at least 10 houses for rent and probably 30 more for sale on my street alone.

The oil companies have every right to charge whatever they want, after all, it IS a free market, right? Don't complain about big government then **** about regulation.

After all, if you weren't living outside your means and did the smart thing and leave some wiggle room in your budget, you wouldn't be in this situation now would you? You didn't need that expensive of a house, or those new cars, or that pool, or new clothes, or name brand groceries. Its YOUR fault that you didn't pack enough acorns like all the other squirrels.

I was at the Meijer store in Ionia the other day and was filling my van. When it reached 75 dollars they shut it off. I asked them why and they said that that was as high as the pump would go and that they were lowering the the price 5 cents to match Kmart down the road. I asked them if they could refund the difference and they said no. So watch Meijer as they can change the price up or down while your pumping and there is nothing you can do about it.

All gas stations do that - it's not just Meijer.
