"Bush also will reiterate his call for development of oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, Perino said" BY their own estimates... 75 cents per barrel. A barrel is around $135 or more... 70% of the cost at the pump is the barrel price...= this is an idiotic idea that will save you all of 8 cents per fill up. The real reason? Take the blame off their rich Arab Bush family friends for gouging you and trying to turn your anger to the "tree huggers." Yeah, a bunch of flannel wearing hippies are to blame. Fall for that one? SUCKERS!!!

Are you complaining that it will save you money? 8 cents may not be a lot, but pennies add up.

SUCKERS!!! Your absolutly right!!! bush is trying to pass the blame. opec has increased production to match the increase in demand. The refineries are no where close to refining at maximun potential. Next take the oil off the stock market and the price of the barrel will drop. force auto manufacture's to improve fuel millage standards. I saw a car comercial boasting 27 mpg for a new 2008 car that looked smaller than a mid sized car and thought 27 mpg??? what a joke!!! I have a 94 chevy lumina van that still gets over 30 mpg and I can haul more passengers and cargo. The solution is simple and bush is clueless!

Wow what a solution. I'd start a savings account but the bank wants $50 to open. At that rate in just over 12 years I could start a savings account. I would say to somewhat quote the story "bush is echoing a call by gop presidential candidate John mccain" stating that most conservatives are dumb enough to fall for it after all they voted for the idiot(s).

If we were to start drilling off shores would that not create more jobs for the economy also. Somebody has to build all those oil rigs.

Mindless fools. Start drilling today. We need to tap our own natural resources as India and China are coming on line. There is not enough oil currently. We were basically alone with the consumption but now more countries are using it. Bush has tried, over his term, to get congress to allow drilling off shore. Now Obama says it won't do anything in the next five years. That idiot doesn't realize they said the same thing 13 years ago that nothing is going to be produced in 10 years. Well ten years came and went and the green weenies are using the same argument. This is an attempt to cripple the US so the citizens will want more govt programs. It's BULL!

IDIOTS There is no technology available at this time to do what we need it to do. Start development of new tech now so that in 10 years we have an alternative that is affordable. Honda will come out with a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in July. It is only available in California and they are only leasing them. They cost a million bucks. So drop your silly progressive name calling and start coming up with solutions.

Ah yes my liberal friends, lets just pull all of that renewable energy right out of thin air. First of all OPEC did not increase oil to meet demand, they just increased oil, it is still no where near demand. And your boy Harry Reid is quite famous for saying that if the Saudi’s increased production by a million barrels it would lower the price of a barrel to $100, but if we pumped that much our selves it would only drop it by 8 cents. That makes sense. Yes they are getting rich in the Middle East off our dollar. But so are the investors on Wall Street. You know, the ones who are willing to pay that much. Buying oil on the stock market is just like buying anything else at an auction. The buyer and seller agree on a price. Even the Saudi’s said that they don’t believe why the price is so high. In fact they blamed all of the Democrat taxes that have been added to try and stop global warming. Am I going to be driving some form electric of some other type of fuel car in the future, probably? But we will never make it that far if we don’t have the oil to get there. It is still going to be a long time before they have the technology to be oil free, until that time we need to drill as much as we can for our own oil. China and Cuba are both drilling sixty miles of the coast of Florida right now. Sixty miles! We should be there drilling, not the damn Chinese! You people need to wake up and stop blaming George. It’s not like we all of a sudden just ran out of oil. If you were more worried about saving your own country instead of just trying to blame and hate it, we would not be in this mess. Remember, the oil “crisis” was never this bad until you god Al Gore told you that gas was bad, and that in ten years we would all be on fire from global warming because of gas and oil. Then all of the taxes and even more restrictions showed up. Bam, all of a sudden oil was $140 a barrel. Cry all you want, but it is your own fault sheep.

Lets face it EVERYTHING we touch and use is connected to oil. We aren't just talking fuel. Yes we need alternative energy BUT we do and will need more oil, and importing it is getting more and more expensive. Why not use our own resources. Environmental concerns are important but with todays tech. I can't see why this can't be done. Congress needs to wake up.

The solution is simple and bush is clueless! I'd argue he's both: simple and clueless. If America falls for McCain, they deserve a Bush third term. Why are Americans blaming each other for a mess created by the government, OPEC, oil companies, and special interests? Who cares if you drive a Hummer? Commute 30 miles one way? Take long Sunday drives? Part of being an American use to be having the freedom to get in your car and drive rather inexpensively whereever you wanted to go. Road trips must be a thing of the past. When people are concerned about the economy and are barely making ends meet, theyre less likely to be politically active because they dont have the time. This dynamic plays right into the hands of those elected to lead us. The middle class fights amongst themselves while the elite do what theyve always done: live well. As George Carlin said, the poor are just there to scare the **** out of the middle class, keep them showing up to their jobs.

It will take common sense and not false sciences to get us out of this problem. We are too busy acting like Europeans.

Why is no one in Media reporting the probability that if oil drilling is allowed off-shore and in the National Preserves that the oil companies have never officially committed to selling this oil to Americans? That is just the perception that they want you to believe. This oil will be sold primarily to the highest bidder, namely Asia. These oil companies and the politicians that are pushing for this drilling are no more than whores with no National loyalty. Why has no one picked up on this? Thank-you for your attention.

Do any of you actually think your voices are heard, or will carry any weight? Big business will do what they want whenever they want and the government will kiss their backsides. It's not a matter of economics, it's a matter of power. Bush just wants to "look like" the good guy before he goes back to Northern Mexico, excuse me, Texas.

Isn't it funny that Bush "echos" the statement of McCain. He can't think for himself. He extends a drilling ban started by his father in 1990 until 2012 and now he is 'enlightened" and wants to recind it. We are already producing oil in Alaska, but where is it going? To Japan. Why? The oil companies can make more money by selling it to Japan and importing middle east oil than they can keeping it here in the U.S. The solution is not producing more oil. The solution is developing alternative energy technologies. Hydrogen for example. The internal combustion engine is a dinosaur and needs to be phased out. If our leaders had began this type of development back in the 70's after the "oil crisis" we wouldn't be in this position now. We are all stuck now, for a long time I'm afraid.

Yeah, I get it. The thing is if we double the world supply then the pressure is off and oil become an affordable commodity. Otherwise what you may be left with is a nationalized oil program if you want to take oil off the world market. Just look at Social Security and Medicare, both bankrupt. Govt needs to stay out of it.
