How awful......it is amazing how quickly a little one can get into dangerous things. I hope this reminds other parents to keep all medicines and medical supplies up high....even nail polish remover and cleaning supplies can be dangerous for our kids. My heart goes out to Keenan's family; there is nothing so horrible as losing a child.

How does a two year old ingest enough of those substances and nobody smell it on his clothes or person. Yet alone the two year old drink enough of the foul smelling stuff to be toxic.

What a horrible tragedy. God help that poor day care worker and that family.

I guess I am a bit incredulous as to why any parent would leave their infant children with ANYONE while they go out of country. I just seems so foreign to me.

Atleast this is isn't one of those cases where the daycare provider ignored it. She did everything she was suppose to it sounds like. I really hope the family can pull through - this is such a tragedy.

I agree. I would never had done that. I never had the desire to be away from my kids(until they were teenagers;)

I am a daycare provider and mom of 3 and I can say first hand it only takes a couple minutes for a child to get into something. That being said anyone with experience with kids should know to put the harmful stuff out of reach or lock it up. Kids are very curious. My heart goes out to both families. Keenans for the loss of their child and the daycare provider because she has to live with this the rest of her life.

I know. my friend does daycare and I have been over there enough to see that she doen't have any cleaners or anything anywhere where the kids can get them. It's tricky though, especially if you have a little one who is a climber. I feel bad for all the families involved. It's just sad.

I am a daycare provider and I would be devasted!

I don't know the whole story or the circumstances, but it just seems interesting how these items were found (finger nail polish remover and rubbing alchohol)in the child's body.

I know that those types of items need to be kept out of children's assessibility (for daycare and for non daycare kids).

Did the child really ingest these itmes? I doubt the daycare provider gave him the items, or did she? Or or are these items that they found, could the ingredients be found in other things?

This is so sad. I as a parent wouldn't leave my children with a daycare provider for me going out of town-I'm a daycare provider myself!:)! I don't care how much I trust her! I would ask family-if they didn't have family to have watch their kids, then either don't go on the trip or take the kids with you. As parents we need to do what is best for our kids and sometimes that means sacrificing what we as parents want to do.

My heart does go out to both the family of the child and the daycare provider. I know of a daycare provider who had something bad happen and wanted to commit suicide because she couldn't live with the agony, pain, frustration and guilt of a child dying in her home.---I pray that the provider is able to have faith and if she made a mistake, to forgive herself, and to learn from this, not take her life!

I don't know what I'd do if something like this happened in my daycare!

My prayers are with both the family and the daycare provider.

I agree. I feel awful for this person. I do not believe she did anything intentionally. It sounds to me like she cared for this child very well. We have all left things setting around that shouldn't be out around kids. Myself included.

Such a terrible situation. I feel bad for the parents and the daycare provider. Sounds like she did what was right. Took him to the doctor. If they couldn't figure it out I don't know how she was supposed to. Prayers to all. On the news they said it was probable, which means it's not definite.

My heart goes out to the family on their loss.

Child Care workers must remember that their number 1 priority is the safe keeping of children. Too many times, "center" type child cares focus too much on making money, not on the children. Home child cares are not nearly as bad.

I encourage all parents to verify their child care's license online at michigan.gov . When we did, we found that our daycare center in Holland was using employess who didn't have background checks completed, no medical checks and that they had numerous violations for having too many kids per "teacher". We have removed our kids from there and now have a home based day care watching them.

Again, my heart goes out to the family for their loss. Let this be a lesson to all parents on how precious their children are.

Sorry, but being licensed guarantees nothing. I had my daughter in a licensed daycare providers home and my daughter was there for two days. She had a dirty face and dirty butt and the provider also had a large german shepherd, six other kids(in a trailer). She was the nicest person ever but a lousy daycare person. Later I heard her dog bit someones' kid.

Did this child just get his 2 year immunizations???
They are jacking our kids up......the cdc doesn't want't to admit that!!!!!!

Just seems kind of odd to me about the nail polish remover..it doesn't seem like a 2 year old would open the nail polish, drink it, put the cap back on, and put it in the exact same spot that it was in, and no one notice that it even happened.

My sincere sympathies to the Marshall family for your loss. Cleaning solutions, rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, etc, etc, should all be LOCKED in a cupboard away from little hands and little climbers.

I pray Marshall family, you will begin to heal now.

I agree. Daycare is not about money...it is about CHILDREN. People lose sight of that. When families dropped their children off to me for the day, their children were my priority. Their safety and well being was what mattered. I also agree with the home daycare factor, not to say centers are bad. there are many great centers out there. I just think home daycares ( licensed for 6 children) are able to give more time to each child. But hey that is just my opinion:)I know it is a little off topic but....

I want to know why the DR. the day care provider took the child to did not smell the fingernail polish remover on the childs breath -- also how can a kid that age unscrew the cap and drink enough to make him ill enough to later pass away..one taste and it would be so bad he would spit it out,yet he also screwed the lid back on and put it back in the exact spot and never said a thing...hmmmmmmm something does not add up.I would not be to quick to blame the daycare provider--anyone test the meds she gave him?
