I think that it is wrong to take the money from the economic stimulus to go toward back taxes or student loans. This money is suppose to boost the economy and be non-taxable, seperate from income taxes. It seems to me that this payment will not help the economy as millions of americans may owe money. Just like the goverment to give and turn around and take.

disappointed in gr,
If you don't want your rebate check, send it to someone who can use it. I don't see where our government is demanding we use it in any particular way. Perhaps you can use yours to buy some sunshine to put into your life, and stop blaming the government for everything.

I just used the calculator to see what i would get in the stimulus check and i guess i understood that we would be getting back $600 per working adult and $300 per child under 18. but when i did the calculator, it told me other wise and that between my husband and i and our 3 year old daughter we will be getting back only $900. I know thats more than what we started with, sure and im grateful to the help, but i guess that i misunderstood what was going on, and i just hope no one else is in for the surprise.
Cant complain its enough for the desperatly needed hot water heater and a cheap tub. And hopefully some other plumbing needs.(Getting our home legal to live in is all im doing with the money)

I thought everyone that worked, paid taxes and filed their taxes would get a minimum of $600.00 also but it is based on how much money you made, how much taxes you paid in, any if you were able to file long form. But I am happy with the $300.00 I am getting back, it will go towards my daughter's wedding.

I thought we who worked was getting $600 a piece a total of $1200 ... but according to the calculator ... we are getting $600 total not the $1200.

After hear tv reports up to $1200 (for couples)... I thought it was all going to be $600 a piece ...(similar batteries aren't included ... but piece of equipment will work better if batteries were installed) or ... gasoline milage will vary due to driving conditions, speed, weather, etc ...

I am slightly disappointed ... I will take the money ... but I don't think the stimulus package will be enough to save the economy ... gasoline will eat most of it up ... along with food ...

What a disappointment we were hoping for the full $1200 ... we could have used it to fix things we need so desparately and to get ahead on some things because of gas.

We paid taxes ... and what we got back from the federal went back to the state of Michigan ...
What a disappointment on both ...with that in mind will the last person leaving Michigan ... turn off the lights. I have had it between the federal inaction on our gas situation and the policies with Michigan. Tired of all politians.

They all LIE !!!

Hi Jennifer ... I have been checking my account since I have direct deposit as of 7:45 Am still haven't seen the money coming across. Now I hear maybe there might be a second economic stimulus package being talked about ... the President now says this check might have to be used for just the basics ... since price of gas and food is going up... my solution is lets start drilling and get the corn for the animals to drive down the price of food...
So much on that little aspect ... I am a bit still disappointed ... it reminds me the famous joke abt the gov't ... 1. The check is in the mail, 2. We are here to help you. 3. We are from FEMA, 4. It isn't going to cost you...
Watch out for #4. Run the opposite way with your check book.
I have learned don't depend on anyone ...especially of late Lansing or Washington.

I don't care how much I get, something is better than nothing at all. Both my husband and I are laid off, he ran out of unemployment, and cannot find another job, not even at McDonalds. Mine is just keeping the bills paid with literally $40 a month to buy groceries. Lowered my pride to see if we could get assistance with food stamps, what a humiliating experience. I never thought we'd be in a place where we would have to ask for welfare, well life is always full of suprises. Anyway, the Department of Social Services was willing to give us a whole $10 per month in food assistance. The hoops we had to jump through just to get that shock was a slap in the face. Needless to say we said "keep it" and walked out. All our lives we have worked hard & paid taxes, stood in line with people who were wearing $100 pairs of tennis shoes & "bling", apparently they know how to work the system!
The money we get for this stimulus will go for food & maybe a $30 pair of sneakers. I'm disgusted & saddened with how low Michigan has sunk, but have faith that we'll muddle through & start clawing our way back. Good Luck to everyone who needs this money, I hope it helps out.

I know the feeling on how little you get from social services ... my mother has been gone over 24 years now... They would only give her $10 for food stamps ... according to them she made too much money from social security... They would pay for her cancer treatment after spending nearly all of her social security as a spend down... I felt so sad, and degraded ... we ask for help and they pretty much provided nothing.

If it wasn't for me helping her for as heat, lights buying her food, giving her meds and taking her to chemothreapy ... she would have past away sooner ... she had terminal cancer. As for her she past away in her sleep on Christams Eve of 1984. I miss her, and still will always love her. But I am rather concern for my health care since I am not in the best of health now ...and be treated like her in the future ... it should be a crime that we treat our people that way ... but when it comes for illegals, the ones who made a career on Welfare ... they get help while we who have worked nearly all our lives get nothing or next to it.

I believe that they only way to get any sort of state assistance now is to either have a bunch of kids. OR you can get SSI if you have a drug or alcohol problem.

Stimulus? Our daughter is married to a Legal Immigrant who has filed for residency (5 yrs ago). Since he does not have a Social Security number and they have to file joint for Immigration they get 0 stimulus. She worked hard to support them last year and she deserves a refund also.
