I realize this may start a huge argument but....am I the only person who found Obama's reply to the "When does life begin question" completely void of any commitment or substance?

When cells divide seems pretty obvious. It is life happening. It is settled science.

Who cares? When life begins is a personal and religious question, NOT a political one. Abortion is legal. Get over it and move on.

My observation also. No, you're not the only person who came to that conclusion.

Yes....I'm certain that it's a "personal" question to the child living in the mothers womb.

It is indeed also a political question. You see, the newly conceived child is an American. ANYTHING that is done to deprive that small American of his life, liberty or pursuit of happiness is wrong. Get it?

Religeon is such a great barometer of what kind of president a person will be--just look at the buffoon we have in the White House now and all the damage he's done. Oh, thats right, God told him to do it, so we'd better not question.

so you must support abortion sir since you have settled so easily on the fact that its sickeningly legal.
But would you be so quick to accept abortion if youre wife was pregnant, wanted an abortion, and you couldnt do anything about it even though you wanted your child?

No I dont GET IT. As far as a conceived child having rights? Thats your interpretation and your opinion. The state says a woman can abort.

Get off your high horse. We kill little brown babies all the time in Iraq and other places. Not sickening though huh? Just casualties of democracy.

Yes I settled so easily on the fact that it is legal.....BECAUSE IT IS!!!!

I'd like for you to tell us all (in your opinion) when does that child begin to have rights. It's a very simple question.

When I hold my grandson and look down upon his face and then anticipate his brother coming along in a few months I just can not imagine anyone condoning the killing of unborn babies just because they are inconvient.
It may be legal because the Supreme Court has ruled it so but that don't make it right.

Yea, and aren't you liberals telling us how evil and wrong it is to be killing all those babies?
Why is us killing babies in Iraq more of a concern then women killing babies in the USA?
Not sickening enough? Hell, at leat the babies killed in Iraq by us was an ACCIDENT. Versus the DELIBERATE killing of babies via an aborition.

So, if I have an unlisted number and am not "in your phone book" I have no rights? If I choose to use a cell phone only and don't have a land line and am "not in your phone book" I have no rights? Just because something is "legal" doesn't make it right. It was "legal" in Germany for Hitler to gas 6 million Jews, but it was not right. Man may make "laws" but God is the final judge and authority.

There are very few women in the USA who would treat abortion cavalierly. Abortion rights is a hot button topic, with very few people able to see gray areas.

For those of you who see it as straight murder... Would you be willing to jail your wife or daughter or sister or mother for aborting a fetus that she felt, for whatever reason applied to her, she could not carry? Not jailing? Then what punishment should be applied? Right now it is not illegal. To many it is immoral. To others, it is a choice of last resort to deal with a situation that they see no other answer to.
Not that it's anyone's business, but I have not had an abortion. My mother has. She is a VERY brittle diabetic, was a single mom raising 4 kids and would likely have died, or the baby would have come out with severe physical and mental complications. Her doctors recommended terminating the pregnancy. Was that morally wrong? She'd very possibly died, leaving 4 kids and taking the fetus with her. If she lived, the baby would have (according to the specialists) needed life-long care. Okay - I anticipate - she shouldn't have gotten pregnant, right? But, despite using contraceptives, she did. So keep those lectures for another forum topic.
Those who claim all abortion is murder - how many crack babies and physically/emotionally deficient infants have you adopted or fostered? How many of you approve tax dollars paying an institution to care for them?
It isn't always simple. Pro-life should also include a small amount of compassion for the woman involved, to protect her life, and that includes mental sanity. Victims of abuse, rape, serious illnesses or even complete inability to cope with one more burden (and yes, caring for an infant can feel burdensome at times) should not be further traumatized by being branded a murderer. Guess you all know where I stand on Rowe v. Wade.

It's called birth control. The pill, condoms, IUDs, diaphragms, abstinance. Whatever you have to do. Babies are 100% preventable. Abortion is never an acceptable alternative to using birth control.

Very well stated!!! I'm impressed..seriously. I don't agree 100%, but Lady...you made your case MUCH better that many other posters. Thank you!

It's CERTAINLY not our jobs to go around making people feel bad or judging them. Without getting heavy...Christ tells us NOT to judge and to be merciful and compassionate...as he is.
I know people who have had abortions and been effected by them. Even though I believe it was wrong..it would NEVER occur to me to judge them or make them feel guilty.

Again...VERY WELL SAID!!!
