Youe and your hubby are braver than many people, going into heavy traffic on 28th St. on a motorcycle! I like to tell people that love rides that are scary(carnival rides) that they should try that! LOL

Are we doing our personal stats? Guess I missed that well I was sick.
Ok, here's mine: 36 year old SAHM of 5. Ages 13,11,8,6 and 4. I have been married for almost 15 years. I love my life and my job! You couldn't pay me enough to change it!
I missed it too. 35, happily married for 6 1/2 yrs. Father of a 2 year old boy and another on the way. With a dog that has never listened to me, a wife in her first tri-mester and a toddler, I have mostly been using these forums to be an opinionated SOB as of late. I live with three beings who currently could care less if I have a thought or opinion, so I have to get my kvetching out somewhere.

I am a special ed teacher and for me, summer ends tommorow, for it is back to work on Monday. However, I taught summer school for 6 weeks over the summer, so I was never off long enough to get bored. I also managed to paint all of the trim work in my family room, re-finish the cupboards in my kitchen, and relandscape much of the yard this summer, so along with chasing a toddler and impregnating my wife, it has been a busy summer and I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of school.

I'm glad I'm done with all the stuff that goes along with having children in school. Now my children are having the fun of dealing with that! Their attitudes toward me have changed quite a bit, for the most part, since they started dealing with it themselves. The teen years were especially fun! NOT LOL

It sure would be nice if growing up in the country was like it was for me growing up. Either way, it's better than most areas in cities, especially the larger ones. I had an older guy (my foreman at the time) tell me to cherish how I grew up because that was gone. We roamed all over the area north of Holland and had an old fashioned family farm next door with cows, pigs, and chickens. They grew most of their own animal feed and sold eggs and milk to many in the neighborhood. Our eggs were still warm from the chickens and our milk was still warm from the cow! You can't get much fresher! And we had the freedom to roam the fields with the caveat that you stayed out of people's crops and gardens.

Actually, we very seldom got into trouble. The most trouble we usually got into was forgetting my dad's tools and leaving them out. We would borrow his hammer or a saw and forget to return it.
Mostly we would go wade in the creek, build leantos with deadfalls, or build shacks with scrap lumber and recycled nails. Or we'd ride our bikes through a shallow spot in the creek to see how far the water would splash! Then we'd have to go home and oil our chains to make sure they'd last as long as possible. Mostly, we'd explore the area, always looking for something new to see.

Question for teachers, esp. special ed teacher.
What do you think of a school system that denies an IEP for a 14-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with severe depression, aspergers, ADHD, sensory and motor issues, and also just spent 10 days in a psychiatric hospital?

It's an Individual Education Plan. By law, it's supposed to be the school staff getting together to provide accommodations for a child with a disability, whether it be learning, social, emotional, physical. When a parent requests it, the school by law has 30 days to respond and set up the meeting..
What I'm getting at is, my school system has repeatedly refused to help my son for 9 years. I was curious as to what other teachers or parents with disabled kids have to say..
