Of course he would Alvin. While I don't like Granholm, she isn't the lone problem in Michigan. She isn't the lone solution either. Bringing jobs here should be good news for both sides of the aisle, however.

The Cabella's in Dundee is actually the most popular "tourist" attraction in the state. More people visit that store on a yearly basis than anything else in Michigan. I'm not saying it's right or wrong for the tax break, just stating a fact about the store. I don't agree though that a store in Walker will bring in tourists from out of state as it wouldn't be located in a position to do that. The store in Dundee is obviously bringing in people from out of state because it's located so close to the state line. Can't compete with that in Walker.

This is more proof that the "american dream" is over. Only big business with money to spend on political campaign contributions can buy their way into a community. The old "Ma and Pa store" (who couldn't get tax breaks like this) are done for. Welcome to the reality of widespread $8/hr jobs while the rich get richer.

Without any further schooling or training I honestly can't see how one would expect to receive more than $8.00/hour for a job. Does it stink? Yes. But it's the way we're heading as a nation. That's why it's vital to teach your children early on that education and special skills training are key.

Personally, I'm excited to see the impact Cabella's will have on the Walker area. I attended a conference at the Dundee store a year ago and was blown away by the development and job growth in that area.

Geeeezzzzz, can some of you folks give Granholm a break? She is busting her tail to get things moving here in Michigan. Frankly, I'm a little hard pressed to remember a week that goes by without some company moving HERE or building something new. She was left with a "cows ear" and is doing her best to make silk, and isn't done yet. I truly think people just like to hear themselves complain. If one of you were the ones left behind maybe some of it is your own fault for not growing with the times and to be willing to learn something new. You can't possibly think that DeVos would have been giving tax incentives to his competitors!
Granholm is terrible. Stop making excuses for her incompetence. Where are all the jobs she promised. When are we going to be "blown away?"

Any job here should be welcomed. Maybe some of the unemployed folks could ride the rapid out to walker and get a job rather than waiting for their welfare check that those of us who work are writing to them.

My nephew works in the Dundee store when he's home from college in the summers. The pay starts at about $10 per hour and goes up to $15 for non manager associates. After 2 years he's making $13 an hour. He also get's a great benefits package. While it may not be $75k per year, it's hardly minimum wage. I am sure there are plenty of people in Grand Rapids who would be thrilled to start at $10 with health care benefits.

I am all for Cabela's building a store here .But is Grand Rapids ready to have three to four million more people coming through here on yearly basis like they have in Dundee . I can see the traffic jams now. And can the s-curve on 131 take it, its already starting to show some wear.

Been there once. Was not impressed and definitely will not go out of my way to go there. Over priced items that you can get from Wall Mart at a much cheaper cost.
