This is so wrong. Did the state give tax breaks to the small ma & pa sporting goods stores or are they abandoning the small business man? Let Cabela's pay their fair share of the taxes.

When will we learn. Cabels's expects us to pay 30% of the $50 mil cost to build here? What out of towners or coming? Detroit has a store and so does Chicago? So what are the real numbers? I hope are local rep are asking cause I don't see it...And always learn from others... Gov. Joe Manchin of West Virgina has said that "if he was governor when the Cabela's deal was crafted, he would not have offered incentives."

Cabela's is a destination point, but a store in Walker will not bring people from out-of-state, just redistribute the retail opportunity in the West Michigan area. This will hurt the smaller local stores that have been around and served the community. Although I like the thought of having close to 200,000 square feet of 'retail heaven', it is not fair to those already here. If this was a manufacturing company, then there would be validity to the tax breaks.

I'm curious to know what kind of wages they will be paying to the 3,500 new workers that they plan to employ and if they will offer health insurance and other benefits. If they will truly improve the quality of life for 3,500 people than I am all for it. If they are going to be another Wal Mart, paying minimum wage and keeping people below full time status to avoid giving benefits, than this is not advantageous to the state.

Once again Granholm and her puppets desperate to get anyone to create jobs here, so they pay some companies millions of our tax dollars to locate here, while screwing over other companies and giving them nothing. What kind of messed up economic policy is that? Don't get me wrong, I love Cabela's, but are they going to pay Bass Pro Shops to locate here too? What if they don't? Is that fair? Granholm is so stupid that the only way she knows how to create jobs is to take our tax dollars and give handouts to people to locate here. Why not reduce taxes across the board? Granholm is a joke. Worst unemployment in the nation for six years in a row.

Cabella's is a HUGE store--which will generate millions, not to mention jobs(decent paying ones from what I can research). The store in Dundee brings in many thousands of visitors per year--who stay in hotels, shop in stores, eat in restaurants, etc. It's a great thing--everyone b*tches that Granholm doesn't do anything to bring jobs and when she does, they all continue to b*thch that they aren't the right jobs, too much incentive, etc. What would make you happy???

Exactly what companies has she 'screwed over'? The ones who left the state for Mexico, even after they were offered tax breaks, incentives galore, etc? The land is generating virtually nothing right now--so what if we cut them a tax break?? They will build a building worth millions, provide construction jobs, hundreds of jobs in the store, not to mention hotel business, other stores, restaurants--think of the extra tax dollars that will generate, not to mention DECENT JOBS with DECENT BENEFITS. It would make me happy if Granholm resigned in disgrace and then we can get a real Governor who will cut taxes on all businesses instead of giving corporate-welfare handouts to a select few just to paper over the problems. I love Cabela's, but where are the tax breaks for Gander Mountain? Bass Pro Shops?****'s Sporting Goods?

Cabela's will be a huge asset to the community. If a tax break gets them here, then do it! It'll bring in much needed jobs for starters. Perhaps some will be minimum wage. But they DO offer benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401k.(Check the career section of their website rather than making assumptions). Secondly, people already shop at Cabela's. Either by driving to Dundee, online, or via catalog. We've been buying things at Cabela's for years. Long before they came to Michigan. Wouldn't it be better if the money I spend there stays in West Michigan? Thirdly, anyone that has ever been to a Cabela's knows that it's very presence attracts MORE business, not less. A place like this will bring in more hotels, gas stations, shops, etc. That equals even more jobs. And lastly, Cabela's isn't a "Walmart." They don't offer goods for less than other places. In fact, they may be more expensive than Gander Mt. and Bass Pro Shop. It's still a great place to go and an amazing place to visit with your family. It's more than a sporting goods store. West Michigan should consider itself lucky to get one. With all the hunters, campers, and fishermen that travel through the area to head up north, it'll be the perfect location.

Geeeezzzzz, can some of you folks give Granholm a break? She is busting her tail to get things moving here in Michigan. Frankly, I'm a little hard pressed to remember a week that goes by without some company moving HERE or building something new. She was left with a "cows ear" and is doing her best to make silk, and isn't done yet. I truly think people just like to hear themselves complain. If one of you were the ones left behind maybe some of it is your own fault for not growing with the times and to be willing to learn something new. You can't possibly think that DeVos would have been giving tax incentives to his competitors!
