My two top issues this election are national security and energy independence. To me they go hand in hand.

I thought this would be a good poll after seeing some people upset that Palin spoke so much about Energy Independence. I personally think that Energy independence which includes, but not limited to drilling, solar, wind, nuclear are of huge importance to the US Economy. Not only can it create JOBS, but the very nature of supply/demand means if we increase supplies for energy, prices will go down. This means, heating your home, gas for your car to name a few. PLUS, the impact in can have on the expenses businesses have in just turning on their lights let alone, producing something. Do American's really get this?(oophs - that's the poll I guess isn't it).

I personally cannot think of a stronger agenda item. More jobs, means more spending, tax $'s generated by strong economy vs. sucking the economic pipeline of businesses. Energy Independence also means, more stability and security rather than rely on other unstable countries oil.
Agreed

This is a good poll subject, however I'm sensing most people would rather take personal jabs at the candidates and one another (generally slaughtering the English language in the process), and prove themselves to be the dumb-**** our media has trained them to be.

Any talk of energy self-sufficiency is important. But why has it taken a financial meltdown to get to this point?

Funny huh! They keep blabbing ON & ON about what will be different with McCain/Palin. Palin brings it to the table and everybody ignores her. Why? Because acknowledging how important this issue is would mean they'd have to switch sides because their candidates don't get it. Obama/Biden blab on about health care ....last time I heard that was Clinton and after 8 years Clinton didn't get it done because socializing healthcare is a BAD idea. But promising a Trojan Horse can.
Agreed

Oh, make no mistake, when in Michigan O's all about jobs and economy, when in New Mexico he suddenly pulls a Mexican good-luck charm from his pocket. Now he'll suddenly become Mr. Clean Coal because it'll help get him elected. The problem is once he's elected, exactly how many of these issues will get his attention. He wants your vote, people - after that he'll have no more use for you.
McCain was pushing for alternative energy from day one. He also was calling for oversight into Freddie and Fannie before that was a popular topic, not to mention his early urging for more troops in Iraq when it was not the popular thing to do.
It's clear to me which candidate is putting his country first and his popularity second.

I think that independence from anything is very important. To not be beholden to another for something you need is very, well, liberating, to coin a phrase. The problem with depending on someone else for something is what do you do when they decide they don't want to give it to you anymore? Or worse, what do you do when they run out?

I'd love to read the post from whoever votes NO or I don't know.

Kind of a no-brainer poll

Absolutely, it is essential to our future. We didn't stand a chance under Bush 41 or Bush Dunce cap with their m/billions tied to oil.

Our western states and other countries have beautiful wind turbines yet the U.S has to make it required. Presently people are slowly learning how to become 'green' and finding methods that work for them individually.

If the past is an indicator people will cease their efforts. Remember Recycling?

Exploring any and all ways to reduce our dependence on foreign countries for our fuel is a great big step forward.

Good Day,

I think one would have to be a fool not to think that energy independance is important. The tough question is the "how"? Wind and solar are nice and all, but they are still too weather dependant at theis time. Calm winds or a cloudy day, then what? Geothermal is nice for control the temperature of your home, but it can be expensive. The problem is we do not yet have the "it" answer. In the mean time I believe it is important that we bridge the gap with current technologies and fuel sources such as oil, atomic, and gas. Until we invent and or make viable other forms of energy supplies what are we going to do in the mean time? What, sit around by candlelight huddled next to the fireplace? Or bridge the gap?

Remember on Back To The Future when Doc fueled his car with garbage?

Has the technology for that been looked into? I'm not talking about flying time machine cars, I'm talking about using trash as fuel.

Most dumps now have taps for methane (NG), so yes it is happening.

While I agree with you do you really hear that in the voices of the voters? I mean, why does the amount Palin spoke about Energy Independence bother so many? More importantly, why isn't this very subject higher on Obama/Biden's list since the job creation part of it would be it - most specifically drilling offshore. He seems to divert to 'clean coal' and solar - blah blah blah... Yes, those things are important overall but oil independence has the most direct impact on our economy. Unlike his other agenda item, their is not a SINGLE taxpayer that is not affected by this problem.

I agree- but while Americans can nod their heads in agreement, do you really think most get the full scope of it?

Well I do not have a lot of confidence in the "voters" in general in terms of their intelligence. Look at all the losers that keep getting voted in! I don't think those running for office focus on specific solutions because of all the red tape they have to jump thru to actually accomplish anything. Its easier (per se) to get elected by slamming your opponet. When there is too much red tape for their "solutions" and they fail, they can't be slammed with broken promises.

I could add that I don't think the majoirity understand the full spectrum of the problem with being so dependant on oil from other countries. Americans can be very selfish and just want to pay less for things. Cheaper products may have to be built oversees. OK sounds great....WAIT then the jobs go and all h.ell is raised.

We also are creatures of habit....why try a new source of energy if what we have works? DUH!

We as a society need to think outside the box more.

Good Day,

Morris E. Smith - Yes. As others mentioned the mining of gas from landfills. Also, on a recent episode of Modern Marvels (on the History Channel) they discussed a different approach. The episode I believe was titled something like Super Heat... Anyway, one of the segments was on an incinerator, using trash as fuel, to create electricity. The temperature, as they expalined, in the furnace was so hot that plasma is created, which in turn, they said was so hot as to nullify any polutants. It is so hot that even polutants are nuetralized. That's hot... I believe it was several thousand degrees of heat.

Thanks for the info Mr. Methane and Steelie.

I think looking into different approaches to our energy situation should be encouraged (or at least allowed) by our Government. There are so many other possibilities out there.

The sudden increase in gas prices shocked everyone into paying attention to what is going on. As long as gas prices stay high there will be interest and when there is interest things get done in this country.
