I'm disgusted with the residents and authorities of Ishpeming! With other options of resolving the incident between the moose and the residents stalking it, the absolute WORST one was chosen.
Shame on all of you, it's disgusting. You don't deserve to live among Nature's creatures.
I take it that, in your mind, it would have been better to take the extra time while the frightened moose injured or killed a few people, the very people who were escalating the incident. They chose in the interest of protecting the foolish.

How horrible for the Moose AND her babies...I'm so angry that people cannot have the decency to back off when police and animal control officers are trying to do their jobs. Have the never seen a fricken moose before?! Seriously, I am totally outraged that a beautiful animal had to be put down because of people's stupidity, and now her calves might die too! Tranquilizing an animal shouldn't kill it either, it should be done in a way that the animal is sedated for a few hours until they can get her moved to where she needs to be, along with her babies.
I cannot help but think...if we would all get this outraged by the killing of innocent HUMAN babies.
Yes, it is sad that the moose was put down, in pales
in comparison to abortion. Lord, have mercy on us.

That was most likely a matter of time. By the time they could have gotten a dart gun there, somebody might have been hurt or killed. They tried to herd them out of town, but people kept getting in the way. Herding them out of town was the best option for the moose, but it didn't work thanks to the people there.

yes, but Obama's wife would have looked at it, and "uglied" it to death....and THAT is suffering.
I won't even try to disagree with you; but I look at it this way...All of the five-star poon Barack Obama could be getting and yet he remains faithful to her...That's what I call family values.

You have no idea what you are talking about. What makes you think that the police wouldn't have access to tranquilizers? Every town, even in the UP has a veterinarians office.

Moose wander into towns all over Alaska, Canada, Minnesota, and even the UP...yet very few wind up being shot to death. Most of them will make their way out of town on their own if you leave them alone.

Beyond that, Moose encounters in the wild seldom lead to humans being killed. The danger expressed by the cops is exaggerated. Female moose don't have antlers, don't have claws, and are predominantly herbivores. They may be able to charge a human, but unlikely to maul one to death.

Keep pretending you know what you write about.

I hope they let somebody have the meat but they probably had to do an necropsy to find out why it came in too town. It will probably end up in the garbage .You could feed some people and probably make the skin into leather and make a coat or some gloves .

Of course. People should not have personal responsibility its always the governments fault and thepeople in charge. Last time i checked adults should not need babysitters. The police should have tranked a couple people in the way. Maybe that would have gotten the idiots to back off.

Sad story. Too bad they weren't able to wander on out of town the way they probably would have, if not for all the annoying and scary humans in the way. We suck sometimes.

this is a tragedy.i love the moose, seen them in the wild and i respct them.and a cow with calves needs alot of distance.i can not believe that authorities let this happen.someone should be held accountable for this act.i truly can not believe this happened.how ever pulled the trigger should have their face posted on the net.i will try and find photos and i encourage anyone else who is disgusted by this to do the same.we need to see the people responsible for this and bring shame to their acts.

<quoted text> I believe something in their genetic makeup makes them very suseptible to tranqualizers. Same goes for horses. Draft horses need very, very, little sedative compared to a normal horse....odd, but that's the way they're made.
That's really odd, I never realized that certain animal's genetic make-ups could make them so susceptible to tranquilizers...the poor things! Thanks for the info! It's nice to learn new things =)

The Cherokee people, of whom I am proud to belong, would not tolerate that. My forefathers would not even kill that moose, they would respect that the moose has the right to wander where it wishes. It would be considered sacred. The fact the police killed the poor thing, and she had babies, really ires me. My great-grandfather, a Cherokee Tribal Chief, probably just rolled over in his grave.

Are they going to eat the moose now? I hope they wouldnt let it go to waste and rot. What makes me mad is when we put a hiking trail where bears and cougars live then after one attacks we go shoot it. We are to blame-we need to live in harmony with nature and accept that we are not the only creatures on the earth.

O.K People, Time to set some things straight. I was there. I live in Ishpeming. There was never over 25 people there at one time looking. The POLICE chased moose with 4 wheelers and suburbans NOT THE PEOPLE. There was a DNR person there. They had access to tranquilizer. NO one was in danger at any time. This was a needless killing. Police seperated her from calves and she was trying to locate them and order was given to kill her. POLICE are to blame not people. We see moose quite often here and they are no big deal to us. Meat was taken to Marquette meats to be butchered and donated to local food banks. I will bet everything I own the foodbanks will never see 1 ounce of this meat. Worst of all, Moose are protected by law here. Suppose we will have to start shooting eagles because they MAY be attacking us swooping down near us when fishing eh????? Terrible Just TERRIBLE
