"""Every public school needs effective methods of discipline, but beating kids teaches violence, and it doesn't stop bad behavior," wrote Alice Farmer, the author of a joint report from Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union. "Corporal punishment discourages learning, fails to deter future misbehavior and at times even provokes it."""

Since when does a controlled, supervised spank equate to "beating"? Only ACLU.

You want to see beating b..itch? Here's a beating.

You are probably reading about 200,000 kids who will graduate on time, ritalin free.

Distract from learning my a.ss! It's what puts the focus back on it. Which is something our failed public education system NEEDS.

"beating" puh-leeeeeeeeze!

Maybe if more parents administered the appropriate boundaries, guidelines and discipline at home, the teachers wouldn't need to be doing that at school.
Learning discipline and respect begins at home.

I expect the children to behave appropriately at home, and I expect no less of them at school. If they over step accepted boundaries, corporal punishment should be an option.

It might bruise their little ego's, but reality checks never hurt anyone.

When my children were in elementary school, the school still had paddling rights. My kids knew, from day one in school, that if they got in trouble at school, they would be in worse trouble at home.

I gave the principal a written permission note to paddle my children if they needed it. Guess what, my kids never needed it at school. I'm not saying they were ever perfect children, as none are, but they knew that I meant what I said.

My oldest is married and working at a hospital, my middle is married and owns his own business that is doing well, and my third is on his third year of college and made the Dean's List every semester so far.
I do agree

It shouldn't be the teachers doing it anyway. Teachers apparently have a problem lately with personal and emotional, unnatural obsessions with their students.

The task should fall on the shoulders of the principle, under the direct supervision of no less than 2 administative witnesses.

I remember teachers spanking disruptive kids it got everybody's attention and kept everyone in line. I have no problem with a teacher spanking a student .Lets say up to sixth grade any way .Older kids should be dealt with in a different way .

With a specified number of whacks...I remember the first three really didn't hurt anyway...so I'd say 6 or 7 would get their attention.

And they should have a certified paddle...one that does not maim or bruise, just one that stings really bad.

Too funny! And, yes, if the principal did any paddling, there was always the secretary or the librarian present as a witness.

I can also remember being in high school, and when kids started fighting in the hall, the football coach (he was a big guy) would come out, grab these kids, and pin them against the wall. He would then drag them to the principal's office. I can tell you that he was a well respected man in that school, and fights didn't happen too often, either.

How about soap in the mouth? Make sure that they have to put their teeth into the bar.

My children are now grown but we had a paddle, all we had to do was take it and hit the table. They knew we meant business.

What did the cavemen do, I bet it wasn't timeouts.

The ACLU needs a spanking in the form of a whole new crew running the place. They have no right to take away my rights.(but they do).

Wow!!! Reading these posts was like taking a trip down memory lane. Especially KCGR's, the soap in the mouth and scraping it against the teeth. My mom used those paddles that had the ball and rubber band attached to them. She had one in every room of the house, even the mail box. To this day I can't look at one without fear. There is nothing wrong with a qrack on the butt to get a childs attention.

Gail in Wyoming your story is to funny, but true. If we got in trouble in school, it was nothing compaired to what we would get at home. I do have to admit, I didn't get the paddle, but did get the ruler on the knuckles for talking. Only got it once, and never made the mistake again.

I volunteer a lot at my daughters elementary school, and there are many, many, many kids who could use a good paddle to their bottoms.

Oh yeah, the ruler on the knuckles for talking--I had forgotten about that. I also got tapped on top of my head once with a ruler for looking at the keyboard while in typing class.

You're right, there are many children out there today that could use a paddle on their butts.

Hit my kid...

I hit you!!!

In fact....next time I see an adult strike a child for any reason I am gonna be bruising that adults face with the same punishment.

I can raise honor students and sports stars without beating them.... so all the arguements above by the Nazi Right Wing church/police state folks claiming "Spare the Rod" are flat out lies and untruths!

People who beat the H E L L out of their kids end up raising bullies and criminals!

Not to mention...people who beat children are child abusing SCUM....and no different than any pedophile sex offender.

If you have to hit your kids.... you don't deserve to be a parent!

(Only America Haters diss Constitutional Conservatives....like the fine folks at the ACLU who work hard to protect our freedom and liberty from the Domestic Enemies who hijacked the Republican Party)

You're idiocy and trollness is showing through Neko.

You sing the praises of freedom and doing as you wish, but now you want to deny my right to punish my child by spanking him\her?

Can you say HYPOCRITE?

As well as TROLL?

Go take your meds and get off the computer.

There needs to be a list for child abusers...

Just like the sex offender list!
