This is news why? This is not a pet, its a wild animal. Get a dog or a cat. There are lots that need a home!

I think this is a great personal story. Sounds like Sara loves her little guy very much. It is nice to hear good news.

#1. I would change doctors if I were the family. Clearly this was an exotic pet, indoor, and if he cannot distinguish that, then *I* wouldn't want him making my medical decisions for me. I would like to know if he mentioned to the family FIRST that he was intending to contact the Kent County Health Department, or if he just did it behind their back.

#2. Kudos to the Kent County Health Department for stepping up and seeing the individual aspects of this, rather than a "by-the-book" procedure. But again, it shouldn't have gotten to the point of being in question anyway.

To those who posted comments about hitting a raccoon with a car, only have a dog or a cat, or saying this animal should have put down: Please expand your perspectives, open up to different ideas/approaches to what a pet may be. Their are people that own snakes and lizards and baracuda fish and ferrets, etc.

If you really cannot grasp the idea that a pet can come in many forms beyond a dog or a cat, I shake my head and wonder what the people around you must think of your other thought processes.

I think that people who speak ill of small animals are people who have small mind. I think it was great that Sara took the steps to save her family memeber. I give kudos to her for that. She seems like a great girl. Also, Judy seems like a family memeber who is very protective. Good for her. I think this family should be commended no harassed.

Any medical facility is, by law, required to report any animal bite. They have no choice in the matter.

I have had a family of coons, mom and two kids, come up to my deck in my back yard since early summer. They usually come up to the sliding door to look in a couple times a week just after dark.

Going against my best judgment I eventually put out some water and a little peanut butter. As they are enjoying their simple dinner they seem curious as to whats going on inside. Like the tables are turned and I am the zoo exhibit and they are the family stuffing their face while trying to understand the bumbling doofus behind the glass. After a while they turn around, all at once, and disappear into the night. The kids have grown from little, tiny babys to big, round, masked examples of their mother. I'll admit when they stop coming I'll be a little bummed.

It just defies logic how unintelligent people in authority can be sometimes. Thankfully this little guy was allowed to live another day. It's too bad she admitted it was her pet.

To those of you who think the wild racoons are cute coming to your door and having lunch, please be careful. unlike Meeko who probably has been with humans and living inside all its life, these wild racoon can tear a good size German Shepherd to shreds.
they also can carry rabies.
BE VERY CAREFULL OF WILD RACOONS
