I'm so excited...somehow the state managed to ruin a sure thing. This is astonishing. We had the site. We had the tax benefits in place....

We had a massive amount of Red Tape to scare them away.

Congratulations State of Michigan! In a turn of events worthy of a Monty Python skit...we were unable to get the deal done because they didn't have ALL the applications filled out COMPLETELY. Was it not in triplicate? Did they forget the note from their doctors? 2-4 weeks for the application process? Seriously? We couldn't step up the pace a little in the interests of a massive economic benefit to our area?

I wish I were more surprised. I wish this didn't seem so ironically typical. Months of debate amongst the lawmakers, and against all odds they managed to actually agree on something, finally yielding a program with potentially massive economic benefits. Then, we followed up all that improbable benefit by allowing the bureaucrat to ruin it.

Nice job.

Great! More bad news for Michigan. I thought the state was going to go out of their way to bring movie production to Michigan. Whatever happened to that???

Good Day,

Ahahahahahaha, haha, ahahahahahahahaha! No wait, not done... Huh, huh, hahahahahahaha!

Such much for being blown away huh? Looks like this film was blown right out of the State! I was never a real supporter of this Film Incentive Act because I knew problems like this would occur. As was said before, nice job legislature, nice job.

Instead of incentives, like having to apply for reimbursement of expenses, why not just simply give them a simple tax break? One where they do not have to file all kinds of paper work? Where they simply apply for some sort of card that precludes them from paying the full tax rate. Why involve the beuacracy? Crazy. Some pencil pusher will almost always find something wrong and sink the project! Simply issue them a card, possibly date sensitive, that they can swipe when making purcahses that would change their tax rate? Or some sort of card, like a liscence, with a date sensitive stamp on it to preclude the true tax rate. This all could have been handled so much better. Why take money out of the pockets of Michiganders to pay, or finance their movies, for them when instead, they simply could have given them a tax discount that would not rely on yours and my tax dollars? It would be easy enough to implement without much if any added cost to businesses. Just simply make sure receipts are kept and handed into the State. Like any ohter business. That would help to protect against fraud.

Great,
Samuel L. Jackson is way overrated.
He plays the same guy over and over and over and over and over.
What is the film company?
ChubbCo.?
Who are they?
Oh yeah that wonderful film Eve's Bayou.
Anyone see it?

Too bad for Jennifer Granhom. No matter how hard she tries (she went to Hollywood right out of high school and go no further than tour bus guide) she just can't seem to land a role in a movie.

This state can screw up everything and anything. Now the news will go down thru the trades and really burn us. Thank You Grand Rapids, and that lady with a dimple in Lansing. Screwed us again.

Once again Grand Rapids got overly excited. Channel 8 reported that the deal was a shoe in. Wake up people,we live in West Michigan.......not Hollywood!!

I've already expressed my opinion on other topics about the movie industry . I am glad they won't be doing it. Someone said something about massive economic benefit .Massive? Mediocre at best. Keep Hollywood in Calyfornia not in Grand Rapids.

Channel 8 seems to have a problem. Channel 8 has done this before when they really dramatized the selling of the river front property downtown to a "high profile buyer"...which just was not so and not quite the 'scoop' Channel 8 thought it would be. They should be a bit more careful broadcasting news to the public which has not been verified. It's MY opinion Channel 8 is looking more at ratings than at accurately updating the public...

Channel 8 News has been flirting with 'drive-by' media as opposed to quality journalism & reporting for quite some time. You can call them out on an inaccurate story, but will they correct the story? Nope. It might make them bad.

It's going to get worse before it gets any better.

seeing as this was another Jenny G brain child,
i never had a doubt.

if she thinks it up, if she says its great for michigan, if she says its going to be super mega fantastic for our economy.

then of course, its really not going to happen.
as soon as she utters anything about a hyped up plan, its as good as a dead dog in the road.
except of course for the always included parts like, "we Pay, Taxpayer & Taxes"
that she CAN deliver, no problem.

Typical Michigan!
This is one goofy **** state!
When you can chase money away
that says a lot about the
character of your citizens.
I see why they are disrespected like
they are, well good enough for them.

Are you really blaming the citizens of this state? Our only fault in this mess was foolishly electing miss s-spot and her co-conspirators

I just wonder if they have already spent the virtual money this scheme was supposed to bring in.
