The smoking controversy continues to burn in Michigan. A new study says a statewide ban on smoking in restaurants and bars would not affect profits.

I will not spend any money in restaurants or bar in Michigan any more if this bill passes as a matter of fact I have been considering moving out of Michigan because of all the other problems here. This will do it. Smoking is not illegal and I am sick of the government telling me and my friend and family how to live and what to do ... believe it or not I can make my own decisions I am a adult !!!!!!

I Think Mike Bishop should make sure the bill passes, even though he is against it. He isn't thinking of peoples health. I stopped smoking in 1982, and I had a brother and a nephew who got really mad at me when I stopped and wouldn't let them smoke in my house any more. My doctor told me it added at least 10 years to my life. And my brother and nephew who wouldn't quit, are both gone now, one with lung cancer and the other with emphacema(spelling may be wrong),but I think anyone reading this will get the picture. I think all public places should be smoke free.

Michigan is too cold to ban indoor smoking. Just give a seperate room!!!:)

He's exactly right. The bar is privately owned and the damn politicians need to keep their big fat noses out of it. It should be up too the bar owner.

Dar,
I don't know you from Adam but you need to wake up and smell the roses. Government isn't there to take care of us or make decisions for us. For God's sake man, wake up!! I'm glad you quit smoking but realize it was a free choice of yours. You didn't wait for lawmakers to create a law that states "Dar Johnston must quit smoking". The same should be true for business owner. The damn lawmakers have made way to many laws already!!! |

I agree that you should be able to smoke if you want to,,and we shouldnt have to have it around us....but there is alot of places that still smell like smoke even if it is in a differnet room ,,it is not your fault ,,it is the fault of the places that dont have good ventalation and have you walk threw smoking to get to non..never made since to me... take care....... |

WOO HOO!!! I smoke, and I enjoy being able to do it at the bar, and if the ban it I don't think I will be able to go to the bar... but on the otherhand I understand how the non smokers feel too.... You go somewhere to have a good time and you leave smelling like crap.

ISN'T IT AMAZING THAT TWO ANTI-SMOKING GROUPS DID THE STUDY AND FOUND IT WOULD'NT HURT PROFITS. I DON'T THINK THESE GROUPS WOULD BE BIAS DO YOU. IT'S ALL BUNK

i agree whole heartedly. and i think it should be left up to the business owners. not an all out ban. we are still a free country and should be allowed to make our own decisions not have the govt. lead us around like a bunch of disobedient toddlers. we are losing our freedoms that were fought so hard for one by one they fall to the wayside. |

Why is it that smokers feel they have the right to inflict their filthy, deadly habit on the rest of us in a restaurant or other public place? If you want to smoke do it at home, in your car, or any other venue that does not force me to partake of your smoke. I frequent several restaurants locally who have no smoking policies. Marie Catrib's in Eastown for one--she has lines all day long of people waiting for tables. I suspect a smoking ban won't hurt a bit--it may actually help. A guarantee you won't come home smelling like an ashtray is a pretty seductive idea!

I would never, in this day and age, patronize a resteraunt theat permits smoking.

Why is it that non-smokers feel they have the right to inflict their non-smoking habits in a resturant or any other public place? If you don't want to smell my smoke, stay at home! I'm happy you found a place to eat that is smoke free..... but that is a resturants choice.... not the governments. If the owner of an establishment wants to go smoke free... then so be it. If they want to continue to have smoking at their place... then you have every right not to eat there. |

I think that Michigan should join the other states that include Illinois, California and Idaho to name just a few, that are smoke free. It is so disgusting to come home for a bar/restaurant and smell strongly of smoke when I have no desire to smoke. It simply just makes sense to pass a smoking ban to me, what's the problem? Smoking is bad for a person's health, I can't understand the argument. I really hope this bill passes the senate and gets signed into law. Why does Michigan have to be so far behind other states?

Good for you. Make sure you don't drive your car either, because it pollutes the air. And don't use electricity (unless produced at a nuclear facility) because of the pollution that was caused to make that electricity... oh... and learn how to spell. |

|
Hope you research the place you plan to move, there are about 13 states that have already passed this law...including Illinois, California, Florida, Idaho...do your homework before you pack your bags!
|
|
And us nonsmokers who desire clean air won't miss you! |

Thats nice. Leaves more room for the better tippers and friendlier people. Just ask any server. |

I remember many years ago when this same thing was being talked about and a Bar owner decided that he would make his Bar smoking only.....
He was told he can't do that because its discrimination... Maybe its time for a few bars to become smoking only... This will be interesting... The state is going to tell the veterans that they cant allow smoking in the bars at the veteran halls that have been created by and for veterans that most got their start smoking during the wars where they were protecting their freedoms. The Republican Party in Michigan sure has it out for smokers. and have had for several years.. For a party that runs on the idea of less Government, they sure do create a lot of new laws... Hey I've got a law for you to write. Lawmakers in Lansing Will write no new laws until they fix this sorry state of affairs that they have put this state in. I can't stand Granmole.... But, she is not the only one that sunk this states economy, lawmakers were too busy playing politics to get anything done. I'm hating this state more and more everyday.. I want to leave it but that would mean walking away from my home since there is repos all around me that the Banks can't even sell. |
