Since it was the government that came up with the idea of replacing Analog TV with Digital TV, the converter should have been given free to the public. The $40.00 coupon is OK, but a FREE digital converter box would have been great. I just bought a 23" Toshiba LCD HDTV w/ built-in DVD Player along with two HDTV indoor antennae: the TERK HDTVa Antenna Pro Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna to receive 1080i HDTV local broadcasts (channels 2-69) up to 45 miles from broadcast tower and the PHILIPS MANT510 Indoor Amplified HDTV Antenna with a superior high definition 50 dB (decibels). Anyway, I think the government has done a good thing by offering the people that $40.00 coupon. If I can get a coupon then, I'll buy the digital converter box in case my HDTV doesn't work on and after February 17, 2009.

Why should the Gov't give you anything free? It's only TV, don't watch TV! People act like their life will come to an end if they cant watch TV, I know people who have great lives WITHOUT TV. So all you cry babies if you want a converter box get up off you fat lazy rear end, get a job and buy your own, dont expect the tax payers to give you one for free. It's hard to belive that you people are so wrapped up in this TV trash and there are in the USA that are in real need. GET A LIFE!!!! AND GROW UP PEOPLE!

What will happen to thousands of poor tv viewers who cannot afford even the converters even if the government does give them a forty dollar voucher

The whole coupon program is a big joke. I applied on January 8th. I have yet to see my coupons. If you try calling them, you cannot get a human. My coupons were supposed to have been mailed on March 28. Email does work. However, all I got was a formed responsed telling me to wait even longer. I am convinced that by the time I get them, the converter boxes will be scarce and I will be paying top dollar or that the 90 days life of the coupons will be almost depleted and I will not even be able to get the boxes with the coupon. This is a typical goverment operation where they allow big business to make out like a bandit and the consumer gets screwed. I didn't ask for digital TV! Thanks again Uncle Sam.
