Once again, the straphangers of New York are getting stuck. But, this time, it's not merely a fare increase that will hold the MTA for a couple of years.

Not that your article is wrong, but a more detailed analysis of how the MTA can avoid an increase is in order. Having the city or state provide subsidies merely means that differnet taxpayers are footing the bill. My guess is that the cost of fuel, both gas and electric, over which the MTA has NO control is the driving force. If I am right, then the MTA has NO choice. Why don't you do an investigation of methods the MTA could use to avoid the increase. And, by the way, nice as it sounds, you could cut excutive pay -- all the way to zero if you want and it would not make a dent.

Time to disolve the MTA.... the blame lies in political appointments and zero accountability.

Why not promote (make it mandatory) the folks who have been working there for years, from the bottom up?

I guess that would make too much sense.

Yes we do. Hiking fares only to hear that they keep having surpluses is ludicrous. What is going on hear? Train service is still slow especially on weekends in a city that doesn't sleep, and so many service changes for repairs and still you wonder what is it that their repairing, since when they go back to regular service you don't see any difference.
Maybe we should go back to private ownership and keep the city out. They keep proving that they cannot manage the system properly without punishing the people that have to flip the bill.

Frustrated and disappointed rider.
