Then you can make the same case for Adolph Hitler.
Where are the parameters in your analogy? Hitler was not an athlete and had no great personal acheivements prior to becoming chancellor. He was a house painter.

Although Hitler was not an athlete he had many accomplishments in the political field before his rise to power and the evil took complete control and turned him to the crimes and infamy he is known for. The reason for Hitler's rise to power was a result of increased nationalism proceeding WWI, where, by the way, he was a decorated soldier. After WWI, Germany was in a depression similar to ours during the 30's. Hitler emerged with a plan to help Germany get back on its feet with Jews, Blacks, gypsies, homosexuals, and others as scapegoats. The Germans, desperate, would accept any explaination to save themselves and their economy. His plan was in fact horrific and evil, however in his mind it was for the good of his country. Historians have since concluded that Hitler suffered from insanity, it is easy to see why he saw his plan as good while sane people like you and I can see that it was pure evil. Despite Hitler's mental state, he truly believed he was doing justice to his country. O.J. Simpson has used the same excuse. He was only getting back what belonged to him and by whatever method he thought would work. Although he choose the wrong method, in his mind, he was right.

Okay, based on your post, I have to agree to a point. I also did not know of the econommic situation in Germany in the 30s either so it was pretty informative also, thanks Bro!

Judge, don't get me wrong. I in no way condone what Hitler did and the world would have been better off if he wasn't born, I'm just saying that he did bring Germany back from economic disaster before he completely lost it and then almost destroyed it again. That's what I referred to in this OJ matter. He was such a great athlete and person and then something snapped. That was the original intent of my post. Can a person be honored for the good they did and the evil they did be ignored??? In Hitler's case the obvious answer is no, in OJ's case I'm not sure.

An oldie but a goodie... It's sentencing day and OJ's lawyer is waiting nervously for OJ to show up at the courthouse. It's getting late and the lawyer is getting more and more nervous. Just then, a car pulls up and OJ gets out. He is dressed in shorts, a loud hawaiian shirt, and a big floppy sun hat. The lawyer asks OJ, "what are you doing dressed like that?" OJ replies, "you told me I was going to Mexico right after court today!" "No", the lawyer replies, I said you were going to the can, koon!!!"

No no, I understand your position....and valid points you make. But as you said, I'm not sure why or how you would attempt to "tie in" all of a mans accomplishments and deny him what he previously had earned, as a result of him going sour later on. I'm thinking, well, doctors don't relenquish their MD degrees if they commit murder or are convicted?......architechs don't have their drawings confiscated or burned.....mechanics can still work on cars and bikes when they get out of prison??....so what would motivate someone to clearly think that because he is a convicted felon after he earned his on "our" field, his name should come off?.

Oh, I think the jury forman Paul Connolly should be charged with purgery and obstruction of justice now that he admitted he was "never happy with the Simpson verdict".....uh....impart ial??? Franky, I think the entire jury should be at least admonished by the judge and a mistrial be declared. Why some people think revenge is justice all the time is beyond me.

Judge,
I personally don't care if his name stays or comes off. But let me ask you a question. What would you say to a child, who has never known O.J. for his athletic feats but are aware of recent deeds, when they ask you why is O.J.s name on the wall if he did such bad things? I would probably say something like he was once a great football player before something happened that made him do those bad things. Of course then you may have the follow-up questions. And after the explanations I would ask this child do you think his name should be up there? Depending on how you sugarcoat your answers I believe that child's answer will be the tell-tale. But eventually that child will learn the complete story and maybe the answer would then be different. I, personally, truly enjoyed watching O.J. in his prime but how he has conducted his post football life is very hard to ignore and overshadows his glory days. But that's just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions?

I guess I'd have to show the kid some videos of OJ when he was at his best, then let the kid read or watch the recent news coverage, then see what his answer will be. Personally, I never thought that a lot of athletes were good role models, or the idea of them being one as a good idea either. There are a lot of kids who aren't athletes who would love to see a role model who practices his life with honor and integrity......and as you know, those are few and far these days my friend.

If I had a video camera back in the 70's when he was hanging aroung Mulligan's on Hertel with his entourage I would be a billionaire! If there was ever an example of how NOT to behave in public, he was it....let the kid see that vid too if I had it....lol.
