I understand basic school supplies .. not sanitary wipes, paper towels, ziploc bags, dry erase markers(that the teachers use) and things like that.. when did it become the parents responsibility to provide a clean environment in the schools.. and take care of everyones common cold or allergy...
my oldest middle schooler comes home today needs a sketch pad, soap eraser, 2H 4H and 4B pencil and an extra fine point sharpie marker..for art class
a combination lock ok np on that I don't want her stuff stolen
one box of tissues for her homeroom class(that she is scheduled to be in for less than 15 mins)
$8.25 for a school project
$3.00 for homeroom dues
and 6 packs of spiral bound 50 count index cards for social studies

that is on top of the 5 binders 1 1/2,$100 calculator , spirals, flair markers and sharpies etc that i have already purchased..
she is in 7th grade give me a break this is ridiculous... and the only place u can find the pencils and eraser she needs for art is Micheal's or Joann fabrics ... guess i get to have more fun hunting this weekend with money that I do not have but np ..... the pencils alone last yr cost me 20 bucks cause I could only find them in a case of 10.
this is getting insane already and its only day 2 of school...

really this is interesting...I use MY money to buy my class their supplies, this cuts back on being frustrated that my students don't have their supplies. I understand supplies can be a hardship, but when I send a letter home mid-winter asking if someone could DONATE soem tissues I get no response or parents who are angry. As a teacher you can never win...maybe we should stop trying.
It is not about anyone thinking u should stop trying, but quite simply the over all cost and some of the ridiculous supplies the schools want..
I had to pay for 4 children to go to school with insane list from teachers who expect the entire school yrs supplies to be turned in on day one.. give us 1/2 yr list or ask for an extra box of tissues in the winter ok but geesh these supply list r ridiculous thats all we r saying and the school system really could cover a bit more.. I mean come on I had to provide 2 rolls of paper towels for one of my kids .. not expensive but still the school can't supply those??

1st real experience for us both! Never had to go to public school before. This is going to be an experience for us both!
I wouldn't call it an experience. I have heard from many former teachers at Lafayette that it is a dangerous school. Renting and providing her with private school may have been your best bet. I hope she stays safe and can benefit from the excellent resources and programs public school offers.
no doubt

After her message, I would rather her be sent home, I would know she is safe.
Get the heck out of the city then or send her somewhere else. You cannot send her to a place where she is not safe!

Did not know much about the school system prior to moving here. She grew up in a christian grammar school..this is really really new to us.

hum and Lisa are the same person?
Neither can spell or complete a sentence yet both claim to be teachers.
You buy your entire class supplies? My as s you do.
Yes, kids have to buy their OWN tissues in some schools. Read some of the lists stores have posted for local classes. It's pathetic.
