Sheriff Howard

Did anyone see Sheriff Howard's explanation for all of the take home cars for his administration? He said that his Undersheriff Brian Doyle sometimes works until 6pm, and might come in on weekends!He said "Is it fair to tie up his family's car?" Are you kidding me? Ooh, what a hardship! I guess the taxpayers of Erie County are real martyrs to sacrifice so the Undersheriff won't tie up his family car. But he's not the only one in that administration with take home cars. Everyone has take home cars! All the Chiefs,both Undersheriffs, Jail Superintendent, Asst. Superintendent, First Deputy Asst. Superintendent. It's ridiculous. All us regular joes have to buy our own cars, pay for gas and maintenance, while these fat cats get their cars and gas paid for by us. Most of those people above work for the jails anyway. They're not responding to crime scenes. I wish Luke Moretti would investigate this.

They are all a bunch of wifebeaters. Someone needs to investigate the Sheriff's department, they are sweeping their violent cop's under the rug. Who cares about take home cars? How about the alcoholics, the violent jerks, and the wife abusers? Anyone who can punch a woman in the face is not qualified to be a cop.

The amount of chiefs and supintendents is ridiculous. How many superintendents (that have never worked in a jail )do you need? The department is mismanaged and a disgrace. If they knew how to make a schedule, the county taxpayers wouldn't be paying the benefits of all the new deputies hired recently. Collins fooled people into thinking it would save money. WRONG. Nobody investigates the department, for some reason the last 2 administrations have been getting away with things that would make the taxpayers eyes pop out.

Read denise. The 1st 2 sentences are hugely correct. Friggin indisputable. I retired young, so it's easy for me to point out this crap, but being in the 'cop' biz, my guess is there are about 18 chiefs, underwhatevers, superintendants, etc. Free cars, free gas, paid for by us. I at least know. Now you do. Whatcha gonna do? Nothing.

The sherif's dept has an unusual number of very disturbed employees. Much higher than all the government agencies combined!
What is the reason...political families have dumped their trash relatives there so they could become employed without burdening their families for money.
For years the sheriff's dept has been a dumping ground for these types of slugs! This is not a view stemming from any vendetta, but a long time observation from working with many, many of them.
Their multiple problems carry into the work environment and they are brutal to deal with and with the political backgrounds, impossible to get rid of!
So don't wonder about the holding center or Chief Howard...this has been the case for years and seems it will never change.
I think the new county executive should bust it up..but he appears to have become another one of them...POLITICIAN!
A look into the real deal of Erie County Deputies will disgust all of you taxpayers!

I don't know if it's because it's a dumping ground for low level patronage- I'm sure that's why they're still there, tough. I think the organization itself is so sick that the employees become "sick" right along with it. Look at the NYS Police- you don't see the same type of sociopaths working for them. It's scary, though, very scary. As a county resident I am at their mercy. The stories of wife abuse I've heard recently are just sickening.

Elma mom said it perfectly.... "the organization is so sick the employees become sick along with them". There is not one thumbs up opinion on any of the above comments. Investigations, whistleblowers, dead victims relatives, come forth.

"Both Undersheriffs"?! Why are we paying two people for a one person job? No wonder this county is so screwed up.

The deputies and clerks take a civil service exam. The chiefs and superintendents are political appointments. The Howard aministration does not appoint from within the department. Apparently the people that have worked the job are not qualified for the position.

The deputies and others did not always take civil service exams. The testing started somtime in the 80's or 90's.
Many deputies that are still working are political appointees and yes...they were the runts of the family liter of the politicians and their friends!
Many have had had their weapons taken away, have had major breakdowns, both while on duty, and and have come from mental facilities, and have runins with the law..fact previous and whil working at the job!
All law enforcement deals with the sub-culture of society...even more so than the deputies and you do not see the serious problems, with issues and disorders, that the Sheriff's seem to corner!
The Sheriff's Dept was a major political law enforcement source for many years before they tried to become professional!
I truly believe that they play with the test scores of the civil service exams also, to receive the results that they want for the families they are there to serve...that is what the Sheriff's Dept. is...service to Erie County's Politico's!

That doesn't mean that they were crazy, lazy slug losers from political families..just corrupt law enforcement officers that were promised some perks for their efforts...a typical ongoing activity for all state, county and city government!
The court system uses the same illegal listening method for their perceived enemies..it is a NYC thing that has entered this town through the promotions of judicial people by NYC judges who are ruining NYC with corruption!
The big difference is that these above agencies are criminal and the Erie County Sheriff's Dept just has subpar personalities...maybe not a big difference, and both are disturbing!

How about that "Bucky" Phillips? The only person held responsible for that disaster was some poor schmuck corrections officer who turned off the alarm, because anything and everything set it off. The Sheriff was the one who didn't have any officer in the kitchen to provide security while Bucky made himself an escape route on top of a cooler. You know what they say about what rolls down hill. The Sheriff and his minions are not accountable to anyone, even though they created the environment for Bucky to take advantage of. Maybe Sheriff Howard should use Bucky in his next campaign.
