From a selfist standpoint obviously I would love the 5 day week since I have tenure. The dollars and cents make sense for many reasons. Obviously overhead, also more people use sick leave on saturday. Fuel costs etc. Not to mention the fact that we would be saving fuel for the good of our nation. I have to disagree about the literature though. If lit were illegal we would go out of business completely further crippling out society . Admit it folks you do use some of the coupons and specials we deliver. I will say this though . People that put literature on or in the mailbox are trespassing. Call these companies and/or notify the USPS. This is very illegal, not to mention the fact you guys get tons of lit that you authorize by having a mailbox .

Actually its lose not loose. In fact I believe the opposite. I believe every box on the street should be curbline. That would cut down on injuries, street time and would make everyone happier because the operating costs would be further reduced.

Your ignorance of how the Postal Service works is overwhelming. First off the Postal service has not been subsidized by tax dollars for many years. The Post Office is also mandated to work on a break even basis. Not being allowed to turn a profit other than to subsidize salarys and services. There is not a complete 100% use of emails dispite , once again, your ignorance. As a 28 year letter carrier I will agree there is some waste in the USPS. However the Letter Carrier is more than the mail. Each year there are hundreds if not thousands of instances where a letter carrier has come to the aid of someone. I personally have notified police when a patron had not picked up his mail for a couple of days. Turns out he had fallen and could not move. I have asked a patron to call police when a suspicious car was out of place. Turns out that the police caught theives in the process of ransacking a home. We are the eyes and ears of a community while they are at work. As for corner relay boxes. The influx of many more parcels make it very difficult to work mail from relay boxes. The mail I used to be able to pack into a jeep has quadrupled since I started carrying the mail. Get the facts before you speak with ignorance.

What are you gonna tell the bill companies like electric, gas, mortgage? You tell them to wait an extra day or two for their payment.
I wouldn't mind, it might cut down on junk mail.

The fact of the matter is that USPS provides a VITAL service. I agree that NO ONE needs all the "Junk Mail" that we all get. There should be a legalized way that we ALL can stop unrequested "junk mail. As for the Ethanol argument, Ethanol is HIGHLY inefficient and it's production for fuel IS one of the MAJOR REASONS you & I are paying SO MUCH at the grocery store since many foods are dependent on this product. Possibly a 4 day "work week" might work but would suggest WEDNESDAY as the "day off". You'd get your mail Mon,Tues, Thurs,Fri & Sat leaving Wed & Sun as non mail delivery days. The service is "bad enough now. We DO NOT NEED to increase the unemployment in the WNY area.

Which of the above people would be the first to call the PO if they didn't get their mail that day! Reform is coming, but don't ask for what you don't want. A good mailman is a priceless commodity. They are among the hardest working people I know. Period.

Postal workers, or at least the deliverers I know are hard workers. And it doesn't help when they work two hours longer than what they get paid for. If a route is calculted at 8 hours chances are it will take at least ten to sort, deliver, return, and sort dome more.
Whoever calculates how long a route takes needs their head examined and at the very least should accompany the person on the route to see just how long it takes.

All I know is when my regular mail guy goes on vacation I get my mail 3 hours earlier in the day. The kid that takes over for him told me he does the same route in half the time. The regular guy milks the route out so he finishes exactly on time. I often see the guy sitting in the park down the street from me reading the paper. The same thing happens at the branch office. They deliberately move in slow motion, its comical and everyone in line knows their routine.

I was a mailman at one time. Here's a true story.

One day I was delivering mail in Boston a few days before Christmas. Mrs. O'Brien invited me in. She told me to go upstairs to her bedroom. She took off her clothes and made me bang her!!! Then she took me to the kitchen and made me eat a plate of beans. I told her this was strange and axed her to explain.

She said she and her hubby were making up their shopping list last week. A scarf for Uncle Joe. A box of candy for Aunt Tillie. A box of cigars for Uncle Tim. She said when she got to me she axed her hubby what about the mailman? He said "Fcuk him and feed him a plate of beans".

Delivering mail in Boston was the best job I ever had.
