Cocaine matabolate only stays in the system for about 14 days, so the tests must be random and without warning

Achool teachers also need to be tested

Ya know, this is actually a really good idea.
Test the SSI people and DSI as well.
Hm... could you imagine the number of 'people' who would get the boot?
Then, pull all the translators, no English, no money.
They'd learn that fairly quick, eh?
Who said anything about paying for rehab??!
How about mandatory birth control for 12 to 19 year olds on welfare?
How about high school drop outs = no money for Mom or Dad. Your kid quits, they're done getting their share...
Welfare reform at it's finest.
Ahhh Utopia.. we can dream...

My job is covered by the DOT, and in order to WORK, I am subject to random drug screening. I happens about twice a year. People on welfare should have to do no less NOT to work, and have MORE children whenever they feel like it.

And guess who will pay for all those drug tests? You and me. Some tests are super cheap and others run a few dollars a piece, but it adds up fast when you have so many to test. Are you going to make them pay for it? Guess where their money comes from, you and me. I agree that no one should be doing drugs but I sure as hell do not want to pay for their problems anymore than the rest of you.

Then, when they fail and get kicked off of welfare, you have a bigger problem. Drug addicts won't quit just because they lost public assistance. This sounds like a good idea but it is short sighted.

WOW! That is the first thing that you said that makes sense. Congratulations! Keep that up and maybe someday you may become a real "Life Coach".

I also feel that people receiving public assisstance should omly get financial help for two chilren after that it should be up to them to provide.Responsible people who know they do not have the means to support more do wha they can not to. Why do they keep having more when they can't afford it. I would rather we pay for their birth control.

you can't bbuy drugs or alcohol with benefit cards. it's ANOTHER stupid idea to WASTE more of the taxpayers money.
the state needs to hold true to it's policy of these recipiants looking for jobs . if they feel they are above working then cut them off.
i remember the state saying a few years back they would eliminate "welfare lifers". i don't think they have enforced this policy at all. someone who's been on the welfare system for years upon years is showing they have no intention of looking for an actual job....take their benefits away then.

You can buy alchol at arab deli's, and trade food for drugs. You can get drugs by letting a crackhead or dealer use your project apt. or sect. 8 free digs for a crash pad.

OKAY....serious drug users that are so completely desparate WILL do that. not those who actually use it for what it is for.
i know people that recieve welfare that don't use drugs and would never dream of doing such things as you stated.
you're right though those damn arabs will enable the abusers.
trust me the state knows who abuses and who doesn't . it's lazy poloticians that simply do not care because they can't make money off of the poor . soon as they figure out a way to make money off of them there will be no more poor people.

Last 2 heroin overdoses we woke up were both white suburban kids who found an empty parking lot downtown. Maybe you should stay in Texas.

What's more expensive? A crack addict on the rampage or a drug test? Long term, it will be less expensive to test them, especially if it's random...

It doesn't matter what you do. Dishonest people will always find a way to beat the system. And as long as NYS stays the way it is - dysfunctional, NY will always be "THE WELFARE STATE!"

Honest hard-working people don't spend a majority of their day scheming with friends and neighbors about how to get their fingers in the cracks and rape the system for more money.

These people are productive in their own right. If having sex, doing drugs, pumping out kids that no one wants, smoking and drinking and shooting each other ever becomes a legitimate way to make money the inner city of Buffalo will flourish and the burbs will become a ghetto.

The State doesn't police any programs they institute and what they do police they do it half assed. This will never change. Nothing the State does is ever well thought out unless it involves lining the politicians pockets with money.

What happens if a women loses her job and can't find employment. Her children father isn't around and she was married. Her 3 or 4 children were born in a solid institution however life happens. She is not entitled to help? I think people always assume that people are on welfare by choice.

Must we forget welfare money is only available for 5 years and you must work. When the welfare reform went into effect you did not see any difference in your check.

Why should a poor person be subject to to monthly drug test. By the blessings of God I've never been on welfare but the way the economy is going we all might have to. Think before you make judgment.

Of course, this is all one big pie and the sky activity, because if they tested dirty, they would still gettheir welfare.

As a matter of fact, they would probably be put into expensive rehab programs
