Why don't you get back to the topic and stop with the firing of teachers because they are speaking the truth about things on this blog. With tenure there would be no teacher that could get fired for writing in this blog. But, you sure make good bait to get a rise out of. I am finished with you now so have a nice life and find 400 more blogs to spend your time with. Ok....you brought up teachers speaking the truth. There are teachers in the BPS who are so lazy and are just watching the retirement clock that it is pathetic. There ARE teachers in the BPS who earn MUCH more than they are worth simply due to tenure. There ARE teachers out there who take their anger out on students. They know that the students can't fight back and it is their word against a teacher and students are seen as liars and cheats. Yep, there are some low life students but there are also some wonderful kids out there who are having the life sucked out of them by arrogant teachers who know NOTHING will happen to them. School is supposed to be a safe place. When teachers/employees are doing the abusing (verbal included) there is NO recourse for the parents or the kids. The principal is supposed to be the one in charge and KNOW how to handle issues that develop. Child abuse by an employee within a school allegation is a no brainer. Call the parents and call the cops. Shame on Melvin for not knowing that but even more shame on Carmela for not knowing that he was wrong and PROTECTING that child and notifying his parents right away. Trotter - supposedly an attorney - should have known that she should have reported. Shame on the whole bunch of them for letting this child down. I hope the civil trial brings the entire school system (BOE included - talk about an ignorant bunch)into the spotlight. Parents FINALLY will see that we have a system that cares more about it's reputation and Unions that care more about protecting their own than educating our children.

Thanks for bringing the truth. I know there are some great teachers out there. I am sure you are one of them. Any good teacher would know that what this school did was WRONG!

I guess you are one of the teachers that enough is enough is referring to about taking their anger out on innocent children. You do not even know my child. So how dare you talk bad things about him. You are a teacher. You are never suppose to say a kid failed. Which he did not. He was in kindergarten last year. DUH! In the sweet home school district they have a summer camp that helps all the children that go there have the opportunity to go to get them ready for their next grade. Which his would be 1st. You have a problem with me so you say bad things about my child. How ignorant. You are one of the teachers that should be fired. Maybe you were part of this thing and that is why you are so sensitive to it. As for tenure. Is that why you are such a b!tch because you think that you are protected? Well don't get to comfy because one day it might bite you in the ****!

If I were in that school and had even the slightest knowledge that a child may have been abused I would have called the parents and police immediately. As a parent, teacher and just plain human being, common sense would have overruled any assinine CYOA decision that the Principal, System and BOE had in place. I take great pride in my job as an educator but I also understand that for some kids, I am the ONLY protection that they may have against some of the "bad things" that they face every day. Like many of my co-workers, I help my students with warm clothes, food and just a sympathic ear to listen to their problems. I can't solve everything but I do try my best to at least provide some safety and security between 8 am and 3 pm. This is a sad commentary on society when our children are simply welfare check dollars, tax deductions and cheap labor but this is the sad way of life that many of our kids face today. To dismiss this matter simply because the aide was "well liked" by some in the school was wrong. For the Administration, prinicpal and the teachers in that building to be unaware of the laws covering reporting is wrong. KIDS know better. I'm sorry but the whole bunch of ADULTS failed this child and his parents.

Williams signed for a registered letter and passed it to Trotter - allegedly without reading it. Which I find hard to believe that you could sign for a letter and not read and yet pass to someone who was supposedly handling the "investigation". The WHOLE SYSTEM from TOP TO BOTTOM FAILED!!!!! Williams. Melvin, Trotter, BOE, BPS, C Botticello.... THEY ALL FAILED!!

Lots of hot air. Williams is still there. Where is the pressure from the teachers on the state to get rid of him.

I don't think that the Teachers are saying much. They are most likely afraid of losing their jobs.

It is the board of education that does the hiring and firing. The state has nothing to do with who the district hires. I wish it were as simple as you are making it out to be.

Discovery teachers and staff were forced by Peters to sign a petition of support. The implication was that if you didn't sign you would be on the "outside". That threat played out in the hallways and meetings through the end of the year. The new year won't be any different. I feel so sorry for the kids. The Union has been silent after they wrote a letter of support for the teacher, Ms. Harris. Reports of harrassment were made to both the district and the union. I wonder if McKinley and City Honors teachers have felt the same pressure just to keep their job. The pressure though was different, not from the principal at Discovery but through the loyalists who backed the principal and not the child and teacher. This whole situation is a joke.

That is horrible. I cannot believe that there are teachers on this board sticking up for them. One of them follows me around on topix to bash me because she doesn't like what I have to say. Says that I better hope my son does not have her as a teacher this coming year. So if any of the teachers and the principal are like her I am scared for the children. And if I my children were in that school I would pull them. And send them to a different school.

She said that YOU should be fired. There are other teachers on this blog that are not resorting to name calling as you are. The other teachers are NOT sticking up for the principal and the aid on here. Only you. You keep changing your name and picking on other bloggers children. Boy your a wonderful teacher. But why don't you answer Stephanie's question. If a parent came in and did not agree with what you were doing. Would you call her/him names, and then take it out on the child?
