""These parents are paying to send their kid to private school which is savings in terms of overall costs on taxpayers that they're not going to public schools." PLEASE help me understand. Does the state not send money to the Buffalo Public Schools earmarked for transportation? If that money was already supposed to bus the kids - how is it NOW savings? As a charter school parent I feel I have been fleeced up to now. BPS has been keeping money that is not theirs all along. Will someone clarify for me. Thank you. GM

Back in my day we walked to grade school too, also High School. Since the Parochial School parents were paying TWO (2) school Bills (City & Parochial), it's ABOUT TIME that these kids got the opportunity to ride the busses the Public School kids had ALL ALONG. It's only RIGHT! That's the LEAST that they can do.

I believe you mean school where morals are taught alongside regular classes. I hope you don't mind that I corrected your ignorant comment. Thanks for thinking so positive, what a guy!

I live in the Ken-Ton district and my kids went to Catholic School. They were bussed by the district. Why shouldn't the city bus the kids too? The public school classes are overcrowded - I know cause I teach in Buffalo - so if all of those Catholic School kids came to the public schools it would be a disaster for making room. I think that is where they say we are saving money. With all of the Catholic School consolidation some kids can't get to school without a bus. AND charter school kids are bused too. It's the best thing for all of us.

funnyguy: I hate to break this to you, but you are not as funny af you think.
There was a time when kids walked to school, but that was before the consolidation of so many Catholic schools. If these kids had to walk as you suggest, some would have to go far more than your 2 mile limit. But that's not the real problem. Unfortunately, the kids are not safe just walking to the bus stop let alone walking up to 2 miles to school, especially when it's dark in the morning. Did you forget about the young girl in North Tonawands who was brutally attacked on her way to the bus stop last spring by the pervert who was watching her for days? It's about time the bussses are provided for these kids, their parents pay taxes too. Why don't you worry about the tax dollars WASTED every day by our carrer politicans.

GM Kids going to private school don't occupy a public school desk. Therefore not as many kids = less teachers, less utilities they use electric and the like.= less teacher aides and so on in addition the parents still pay scholl taxes even if the kid goes to private. Also putting you r6 year old on a cheese box is a lot less freightening than sending them on NFTA bus.= less exposure to law suits

In the suburbs the catholic school kids have always been bussed. But there was only a handful of catholic schools. When I moved into the city I was shocked they didn't bus them. However, there was one every couple of miles so the kids didn't need to walk too far. With all the consolidation going on I'm glad to see these students get the rides they need. As for the high school kids, I think its horrible these students have to take NFTA busses and/or the train then are not even let off close to their schools, some in very dangerous neighborhoods. The district definately needs to come up with a better solution for the high school level.

Dear G-d I hope you are not teaching my kids... Some kids can't get to school without a bus, you say? You're an idiot. Look at Olean, NY. There are NO buses at all there and they kids STILL make it in... go figure.

Do Catholic schools have a full 12 years of teaching like public schools? Because, like, how many years does it take to say "Because God did" about everything? I feel bad for Catholic school students. Not only are they brain washed but they can't even get accepted into real colleges.

In NY Catholic grammar school kids have to get to school on their own- no buses. You can get a reduced price metro card( public trans) if you live far enough. In Catholic HS you pay for the yellow bus if you wish(aka- the cheese bus-lol !!). This costs approx 1-2 thousand per year. All public schools have buses. You are only supposed to be allowed on if you live a certain distance or are in a lower grade. Most kids sneak on anyway. It is hard for the grammar school kids- an adult should be with them in the early morning- it isn't safe.

I feel bad for Catholic school students. Not only are they brain washed but they can't even get accepted into real colleges. Catholic school students do not get brainwashed. Many are not even Catholic. They learn everything that is in the NY State curriculum and generally score higher on college and state exams than overcrowded public school pupils. Catholic school graduates also have a higher percentage of college acceptance than most public school. Beyond all of these things, students are allowed to discuss their moral responsibility regarding other human beings and to learn that it is okay to believe in "A Golden Rule" and not have a ME FIRST attitude. I am sorry you feel that American citizens should not be allowed to experience an educational setting where they can be proud to say "and one Nation under God!" and not fear that they are insulting the person next to them.

I think if the district is only busing these parochial students they are saving money. The student does not attend the public school so money is not spent on education or sports, just transportation. I'm a taxpayer and don't have a problem with that. Now, the "homeless" is something I have never heard of. That might be something the district should look into. If for some reason or another the student has to come to Ken-Ton, other than special education, they should provide there own transport.

We learn how to make decisions ourselves- 12 years of Catholic school and 4 years of Catholic University. Master's from a non- Catholic University. No problems getting into college- most CS kids excel in school. Many have a problem getting into a Catholic University because of high grade requirements. Please research your statement.
