Casino construction stopping downtown
Long term construction on the $333 million Buffalo Creek Casino as well as the expansion of the Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel, is a gamble the Seneca Gaming Corporation is not willing to take.

a casino will never be a good answer for economically distressed areas. just look at atlantic city and niagara falls.
also, the gaming commission and the justice department were on the side of the senecas on this case. so it wasn't rose and company that stopped this project, but rather a realization by the senecas that the return on a $300 MM investment in something that would not really bring in many tourists (senecas admitted so themselves in their regulatory filings for the casino) would not be good enough to proceed at this time. |

Niagara Falls?? Why... a person would have to drive a full TWENTY MINUTES to see that the casino hasn't helped the adjacent city. One would have to spend a full HOUR of their lives to see the ghetto fifty feet away from the gaming messiah... |

Good, now let's build a traditional longhouse at Buffalo Creek and get back to the old ways. Unfortunately that probably won't happen, as no many can be made by doing this. Red Jacket must be rolling over in his grave...

This I thought was pretty simple When property was looked at in Chg,NY didn't Bflo say NO it's got to be in Bflo= okay back to Bflo & since than they have given them a hard time. Who's in violation ? We are not united we need this casino we lost alot of industry. How come it's ok to have OTB's all over ? We are so depressed here how many people do we want to leave this area ? Casino gaming has alocated dollars to assist gamblers in distress ! Come on Bflo say YES this not only will create tourism jobs restaurants hotel help & entertainment if you don't like it don"t go BUT DON"T PUT IT DOWN ! Come on people make this positive let's stand proud like we used to. Buffalo Booster CAROL

No one project can transform a city. The problem here is we can't get any projects finished.
Of course with the exception of public projects that cost too much and just end up discouraging real economic growth. |

The ghetto was already there, actually it was worse before the casino. the city of niagara falls is actually back in the black as a result of the casino, over 8 million this year was given to the city, the problem around the casino are the developers who bought up the land and are squatting on it, not developing it, the Seneca's are the only ones doing anything, we will have a new expansion of the casino grounds coming up, they are building 2 more towers.if it was not for the Seneca's niagara falls would be much worse off. the thing that ruined the falls were the good old greaser's that ran it for so long. |

I love the name calling! All these people that have the ability to question the government and remove these idiots from office and all they do is blame it on each other.
That's what the politicians want - blame it on the blacks and the whites and all those European countries and all those religious groups. While everyone is blaming each other the government will take every last penny you earn, run Social Security into the ground and do everything to make sure they all retire making more than when they worked. Stupid is as stupid does! |

I went back to Buffalo during the summer it was sad to see how run down. The casino would bring some jobs and some money to the city. It needs more jobs that arn't state and Federal. The area just never recovered from the steel mills closing and all the other companies that worked with them. I don't think Hillary is coming anytime soon to help.

Are you serious????? The casino in Salamanca has'nt exactly made This city a hot spot for vacations. Oh yeah, don't forget, NO new buisnesses have exactly poped out of the ground!!!

IF I were the SENECAS I would be talking to my lawyers and be getting ready to file sute agenest the people who STOPED them from building out near the airport!!!THEY made them come to BUFFALO NOW they say NO!!!!!!!!!! you can't build here. |
|
The anti-casino people are quick to decide what's in my best interests but not quick enough to put their money where their mouths are by supplying a substitute business willing to hire 1000 workers, rebuild in a depressed area, and offer a positive where a negative has existed..Go figure!!!Typical politics as usual in BUFFALO, 3rd poorest city in the nation--PITIFUL

In case you missed the point on why they stopped construction... and from reading these posts, it is pretty obvious that you did... The Senecas stopped construction to preserve their bond rating from Moody's. They are taking less revenue from gaming, so if they spend more, that goes directly to the bottom line. Which will shrink even further. When you take in less, you spend less it is that simple. The Senecas announced thier profit and loss to the SEC last month... REVENUES were down.
I suppose that the Anti-Gaming people in Buffalo are the reason that the casino expansion in Las Vegas was stopped too. Or that casinos in Atlantic City have changed their comp policies. The only people that think that when you take in less, then spend more it will all work out are the politicans in Washington, Albany and Erie County. This was a descion based on the best interests of the Seneca nation, and the anti gaming issue was not even thought about. Maybe they can use this as a wedge to give the State and Buffalo LESS money from the gaming operations. After all, the State gets NO revenue from table games, NO revenue from food and beverage sales, NO revenue from Keno.. And NO revenue from the hotel! What a a deal! |

would this small group of lawyers done this if they had to use thier own money ??? They secured a grant, 2 million bucks to pass out to thier friends. think about it, 333 million dollar expansion investment, 1000 jobs, with benefits, and the county or the city did not kick in a dime to it.
|
|
Amen to that. Glad to see a few other people actually realize what is going on here and that the Senecas announcement is mainly a profitability decision. |
