the same thing was done to us we went to the police and reported our mini van stolen and the police did nothing we never heard nothing about the person responcible for taking the van to S. Buf.Junkyard or anything at all. Just took a total loss and chuck it up as one of those things you have no course of action on and don't makewaves about, if the police don't help, who can? Can you lend assistance on this dead issue and total loss and bewilderment????

lets try this wrote: They should have to wait for 30 days before they do anything to the car so a check can be run on it only if they dont have the title. DMV should have stolen cars' VIN on-line and mandate that junk yards submit a check via that web site at the time of scrap purchase. This data is available in other states. Try to get an inspection sticker in Massachusetts with a stolen car. You will never make it out the other end of the inspection bay before the police are all over you. This happened to a friend when her stolen, but recovered car did not get updated in the database.

We aren't forgeting about the guy who stole the car, but when both cars went to this junkyard they were whole and could be driven NOT CRUSHED!!!! They may have stolen the cars but it is the junkyard that crushed them to cover their dirty deeds.

I would really love to find out just how many people have had this same problem with the same junkyard alot of junkyards refuse to take vehciles without titles or registrations having the persons name it. It is these type of junkyards who use the Dmv forms to get around things. Before you know it these scrapyards will move to bigger things maybe even scraping your home and the things in it without a title Wake Up people this guy needs to be prosacuted for recieving stolen goods it's not just a fluke that the police found two stolen cars in two days in the same yard. The police also should look at all his records I'd bet they would find a whole lot more.

The junk yard followed the law, and did what they're suppose to do. They are not the criminal.

Seems to me, they should have to check the VIN number to see if it's reported stolen. Wait a week before crusing it and put the VIN in a database in case it does come up stolen the police will know where to look.

I think the guy interviewed from the scrapyard should be ashamed of himself for accepting a vehicle without checking ownership. This should ALWAYS be done, and by the smirk on his face he knows too. The harder it is for thieves to unload stolen property, the less apt they are to take the items. This guy is as guilty as the thieves themselves, and I hope the cops crack down on folks like him.

The South Buffalo junkyard should be shut down and all records reveiwed. It's not just dumb luck that two vehicles were found in two days. This **** Mike just finally got caught. Hopefully some one does something about it.

There are alot of facts that have not yet come to light about the robbery of my vehicle. Although I know the thieves are at fault for stealing it in the first place. The fact remains that mike (owner of South Buffalo Auto) has responsibility to the state of New York of due dilligence to the best of his ability to make sure he is not taking in stolen property. It is aparent through his interview that he doesn't care about other peoples property. It's all about the God almighty dollar and how many of those dollars my truck would have netted for him and his company. I guess all that's left is to pick the pieces and go to the next stage. I would appreciate any help from the community on this matter. In the next few weeks I intend to hire a lawyer on this matter and would like to hear from anyone who has had the same problem with this junkyard, maybe in numbers someone will hear us. Thankyou to all for your comments and continued help in this matter. Anyone who has had this problem can reach me through WIVB and I will be in touch. Again thankyou!! Thanks Al

I was just apaulled when I read this article. This junkman is as much to blame as the thiefs more so because they are the ones who trashed the car not the ones who took the trunk. Mike it just might not be the cars that stink, it might just be you that SMELLS!!!

Between stolen cars and the copper being stolen out of homes, oh and manhole covers (yes), scrap yard dealers should be prosecuted for receiving stolen goods. They are the enablers that perpetuate these crimes. But wait they are making a damn good business by doing this. So much for the moral virtue of scrap yard owners.

They may have stolen the cars but it is the junkyard that crushed them to cover their dirty deeds. There are many junk cars that can be driven! As for covering their dirty deeds the scrap dealer has to account for where they get the cars from' that's why cars without paper work have to fill out junk forms, with picture I.D. Scrap yards also scrap many cars per day to hold each one for 30 days would be impossible! As for obtaining cars with no paper work at all, is not hard to come by. As for scrap dealers who do dirty illegal business, and yes there are many NOT ALL deal this way!!!

We aren't asking that all vehicles are held for thirty days just those for which a person can't produce one shred of paperwork not a title, insurance card or registration with there name and the vin number on it.

Police wake up!!!! Why haven't these guys at the Junkyard been arrested for recieving Stolen property? My guess would be they be tied in with some higher ups in the city. If that was any average Joe they would have already been put in the slammer for possession of stolen goods. Believe me this junkyard knew extactly what they were doing.
