I throught you had to show ownership of the vehicle you're trying to sell to them. Also, there was redlights flashing all over the place with these vehicles; so the guys at the junkyards should of questioned the protential customers more harder. They should be held responsible for any loses that the insurances companies ain't going to pick-up. They shouldn't be able play dumb because those guys should know their business & if they don't they shouldn't be there because they're cheating the average "joe public".

Sounds like everyone is asleep at the wheel with this one. Usually a vehicle that is going to be junked is damaged, towed in or not driveable. Seems like the salvage yard should ask for the Title if some one drives in a vehicle for junk and wants to turn it in for quick cash.I don't see where the difference is if you buy a vehicle to drive or junk,The seller should provide proof of ownership. It's too easy for the these junkyards to pass the blame. They should be held accountable and pay the Woman for her loss. If there isn't a law, This shows that there should be.

The scrap yard should be held just as liable as the theif at hand. What a cop-out to say you dont check the cars because they stink. Bull!!!!! I bet you search every car for every little thing you can find. That poor lady has no car and you are going to make a profit off of it. SHAME ON YOU!!!!! Cover the costs to her. Thats the least you can do. You are in possestion of stolen property. Research harder. You know people are out there stealing, so do your job and make sure its not STOLEN!!!! It's very simple

First off, when someone has a car on their property, like i had at one time (which I owned), but didn't have the title. The first thing I did was call the scrap yard. You have to be out of your mind if you think that people should have to pay money to go get a title just to scrap the metal. Thats why they ask for ID, in case stuff like this happens. Obviously why they were arrested and charged. You cant hold the scrap metal buyers liable for every single thing they buy.

What happens to average Joe Blow when they buy stolen goods, like cell phones, game cubes, etc? They are charged with possession of stolen goods and told they should have known, right? And the difference here is...????

I think it is crazy that someone without documentation can scrap a vehicle. If you don't have the title, how about showing the registration or proof of insurance with your name and the vehicle id number. The owner of the scrap yard should be arrested for recieving stolen property. If it is this easy to scrap a vehicle without the correct documents then why even have a title?

What an outrage. The junkyard is passing the blame they know the situation with metal prices and I believe that this place is choosing to operate with blinders on, just so they can continue to make large profits on what is being scraped. At best this lady should hire a lawyer and sue the pants off of this junkyard. Afterall they recieved the car in running condition, there the people who tootaled it! SUE THEM!

I have done alittle digging on this DMV form that the junkyard had this person who stole this vehicle this form is a statement that claims the person owns the vehicle. The vehicle must also be valued under 1250.00 by the looks of this vehicle I would guess that it is a least a 1993,1994, or 1995 Blazer. Blue book valu of the vehicle with 140,000 approximately would be on the low end would be 1480.00 high end is 2100.00. Therefore this form should not have even been allowed. This business in my eyes just didn't care to go the extra mile to make sure they are acting within the scope of the law. I guess it's all about the money. Shame on you South Buffalo Auto Wrecking! Don't hide behind the form, you are wrong!

What's wrong with the police? The owners of the junkyard should be arrested for recieving stolen goods. If the person didn't have a title, registration, or insurance card with there name and the vin number on it. Plus the windows and steering columns are broken it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this vehicle is probably stolen. Come on now would it have killed you to look and see who the real owner was before you crushed the truck? I guess I already know the answer to that because you would have lost the money that you paid the stealer. We know that it's all about the money. Right Mike From South Buffalo Auto.

First I'd like to say I would have never thought to look in a junkyard for a stolen vehicle. Good job to who ever thought of that. It's just a shame that finding the vehicle there didn't end in a better result. I also believe the junkyard is hiding behind the use of state forms. Nowhere on those forms does it say operate with your eyes closed. You scrap yards should be using due dilligence and alittle common sense. Broken steering columns and windows put together with no paperwork to me would indicate a stolen vehicle. DUH !!!!

That scrapyard guy looks like the kind that would syphon every last drop of gas out of the tank for his own car. "They smell inside....." He's probably the guy who bought my stolen catalytic converters too.

They should have to wait for 30 days before they do anything to the car so a check can be run on it only if they dont have the title. Bet if the money is tied up like that then they will check it out i bet there are a ton of stolen cars that go to junkyards they just got cought

Going on camera that he doesn't check the interiors of cars. Baloney! He probably scours them for any change, cds, cell phones, etc. And he said there's clothes in some of the cars. lol, he probably goes thru them as well. lol Saves him from going over to Goodwill!

An abandoned car often looks just like that: abandoned! A stolen car is not that hard to figure out, especially with a smashed window and a cracked steering column. uh, duh! And the junkie, oh excuse me, the junk yard dealer said that the guy produced a driver's license. lol, should this be a case for Tru's Dumbest Criminals? Is that how they got caught? Did he show his true driver's license? Bottom line, the junkie dealer should pay the lady for the loss of her vehicle. Or better yet, demand her insurance company get after him and recoup their losses. Then she should sue the junker.- it's not that hard to check a glove compartment for papers.
