Way to go it is about time our voices are heard after all we are the people paying all these taxes for services not needed. This should be the same for all towns and villiages. If we the people should have to cut back on all the things in our lifestyle so should be it for downsizing our officials which should have happened a long time ago

"Activist Kevin Gaughan"
-
-
-How do you earn or aquire the title of "Activist", is it anything like "Reverend"?
-
-What do you have to do, just rile up the minority of any group of people with some cause to disrupt and disturb things?

4300 signatures out of how many voters. Kevin Gaughan ought to clean up the government in the city where he resides rather than mess with success.

WHY NOT???

The size of government in Erie County has remained the same while the size of the population has been reduced by more than half.

The cost of this extra government could be put to better use. The problem is the self serving politicians are not willing to give up the perks of a job they know is no longer necessary.

Jimmy R, Pete from Buffalo and who dat:

Why are you afraid of change? Are you one of the career politicians in line to lose a job? If not, why would you think it's Ok to keep the same size government we had 30 years ago, when;

1. we have less than half the population
2. we can no longer support it
3. we cannot justify it
4. it's not effective
5. not efficient
Shall I go on?????
There comes a time when things just have to change, regardless of how difficult it may be for the embedded few.

Each time the federal census is taken the number of congressional representetives oer didtrict is altered to reflect changes in population....county, city, town, village governments should be required to do the same./ Erie county has lost large #'s of population yet the government remains HUGE....it's time to cut it all down to size TODAY...not 5 years from now... not after another hundred studies and not after more elected officials get to feed at the trough. Get moving folks demand smaller government now...And start by NOT VOTING FOR THE SAME OLD POLITICAL HAGS WHO HAVE BEEN IN OFFICE FOREVER!!!!!!

Going from 5 people to 3 people to run town Gov may NOT be such a good idea, LOOK at how it has been working for NEW YORK STATE .

A crack in the wall of the fortress called the socialist state of New York. Let's keep going. After we get more of the town boards reduced then we can also look at merging town and village boards in the rural areas. We can also look at reducing the number of state employees as well. Maybe we can privatize some areas. Ultimately we need a state constitutional referendum. Let's get rid of the Taylor law and the Wicks Law. Return the state to the people.

Some of these pols are saying, "We don't need to reduce the number of reps in office. We need to reduce the poor decisions made by them," or "We need to reduce the wayward spending."

How about this? The less pols in office, the lower the tendency to make such foolish bargains.

Less seats actually strengthens incumbency and political machines. If you think change is difficult now, wait and see what it's like to change with tree people each of whom had to make a deal with the machine to get on the ballot.

We need fewer seats. We have too many welfare king politicians leeching tax dollars. We DON'T NEED THEM so why keep them? Us residents will get what we want. In fact, every town in Erie County is SEVERLY buldging with too many politicians.

Nobody makes a living serving on a town board. The appropriate number of seats makes it less likely that communities fall victim to the tyranny of political machines.
Initially, political machines spend their money on fewer endorsed candidates, that makes it more difficult for independents or free thinkers to get elected. Eventually, The town Supervisor and the Town board are all part of the same political machine.
Cronyizm, patronage and corruption are sure to follow. How will we feel about how our tax dollars are spent then?
What is disappointing about this process is that there is no substantive debate about these issues in the community.
