The former Comptroller General of the US, David Walker, raised holy hell about our ever incresing debt for a number of years. He made no progress. The more he complained, the higher went the debt. He finally said to hell with it and packed it in.

The interest on our debt is now over 20% of Government expenditures!!!! Walker was alarmed and felt that if the trend continued, we would have a hard time paying for necessary things at some point in the future.

He said the Government must cut spending and also needs an increase in revenue (More tax revenue). The nonsense by Bush & Company that tax cuts pay for themselves is just that - nonsense. If they paid for themselves, then why has the debt increased? When Bush came into office, the debt was $5.7 TRILLION. When he leaves, it will be close to $10 TRILLION!!!

We should stop spending money on foolish stuff and spend on necessary stuff!! Repeal at least a part of Bush's tax cuts. Increase Social Security tax from 12.4% to 13.5%. This has nothing to do with the debt, but it too is necessary.

The situation we are in is no different from a guy that goes bonkers with his plastic cards and then finds the banks knocking at his door for their money.

Hansie, After returning from two tours in Vietnam I discovered that I could not sleep until the sun came up. I was fortunate to find a career that has allowed me to work the graveyard shift. Since I'm a daytime sleeper I don't listen to Rush. I don't believe I have missed much. Besides, I'd rather read your posts, more informative and factual. As for the KT Boobie, pure entertainment. KT Jim sounds exactly like what I would think a career Navy man should sound like and I tend to agree with a few, and I emphasize few, of his talking points, just not the way he communicates them.

Very Good , and what about the trade debt. it is est. that by 2010 it will be over 15 trillion and that the U.S. is only worth 17 trillion/ so what happens when Japan and China call in our debt?

Have you heard the commercial by T. Boone Pickens about alternative energy sources and the great transfer of wealth by our purchase of foreign oil?

After the oil scare during the peanut man's time, not one of our goddamned presidents has done anything meaningful about energy. All the pols do is **** and moan about drilling for oil. There are mucho problems with this. We hear about ANWR and how it will save our ****. I don't think so. I'm not up to date, but a few years ago, the EIA (Part of US Gov't) said by the time this field comes on stream, we will be importing 70% of our oil. The oil from ANWR would reduce this to 65%. That ain't gonna save us.

The clowns in Washington are finally starting to do a synthetic oil project for the Air Force. There is a formula to convert a quantity of coal into barrels of oil. Guess what? Doing this, we have GREATER reserves than Saudi Arabia!!! Let's hope.

Hans the OIL problem is a big problem but if you read the Bahr report and the Bloomburg report on our trade with Japan and China you will sh-- your draws, as I said when the time comes for them to CALL in our DEBT. we are in BIG SH--/ the only way we could get out of it is eather go bankrupt or Nationalize everything. we have to learn to buy what ever we can that is still MADE IN the U.S.A..

This is a tough one to figure.

Sone economists say the trade deficit is a huge problem, others say it is nothing to worry about.

I'm thinking that the devaluation of the good old US eagle dollar has made this problem worse. Could it be that our outrageous national debt has helped to make our currency "worthless"? I've heard that foreign investors now see our debt as a risky investment and that interest rates will probably have to be increased to attract investors. That doesn't sound too good. Could really slow the economy down.

The guy who wins the election for President is in for a real picnic. He is inheriting so many problems, he'll be a one termer for sure.

The rotten currency sitaution also helps foreigners to buy our assets. Say goodbye to Budweiser. That doesn't break my heart. I like Miller High Life (also foreign owned).

Tough to buy USA made goods, as the manufacturers no longer make many things here anymore.

Who knows what the hell will happen? Meanwhile, my head hurts. It's Miller time!!!!!!
