I feel that we are being lied to by Williams when he says he did not apply for the position in Memphis. Not that I care if he leaves or not, but does he really think the people in Buffalo are so naive as to believe him?

If you can do all that by yourself on $8.50 please open a specailized training school to help the people on welfare because they get more an hour then that and have great difficulty making it on $8.50,$9.00 an hour jobs, so please help them!!! What is your bachelor's degree in? Hard to believe even an entry level job requiring a bachelor's degree would pay $8.50 an hour. You can make more money in a government job as an entry level clerk without a BS. You're doing something wrong here. There must be more to this story. I think you can make more a Lasertron than that!

Check the Buffalo economy out lately? Get a job and then hope that you stick around long enough to get a 50 cent an hour raise in a year. Government jobs must comply with certain EEO requirements. A teacher-not my chosen field - works 9 months of the year, receives excellent health care, holidays, personal days and district half days. Yes they do have to take home work to correct and they do have to plan. Planning should be done in school at the end of the day rather than racing to the parking lot and beating the school buses. Complaining about how they chose the field because of the children and are working without a contract or raise for 4 years has just grown tired.$32,000 a year for the public school teacher is unfair? Sorry, just don't feel any pity. Sick of listening to the whining. I made my choices and I just wish those who made theirs would shut up. But no, Phil "for the children" Rumore and his cohorts will be out there complaining and who ever is Superintendent will get nothing done because the BTF and the BOE will complain and wait for the local tv stations and newspaper to show up to interview them. We have a great community of residents who really do step in to help when help is needed but the powers in charge and special interest groups will step in and STOMP OUT any of change and improvement. The BOE passes 99% of his agenda and plans without discussion. I'm not a supporter of Dr. Williams but I really do hope he does move on and another flunky will step in and bow down to the BOE and kiss Phil's butt. Maybe then the whiners will be happy and our kids will continue to fail. There's a really good idea.

You never did answer my question, City Girl. You do realize that $32,000 has to cover 12 months of the year not just 9 right? Teachers don't receive a paycheck after the last day in June and don't get another full one until October. They don't choose to be unemployed for July and Augest. It's the way the system has been for more than 100 yrs. So, don't blame the teachers for working 9 months. Yes, they chose that career, but they also incurring the cost of a Master's Degree to get that $32,000 a year. By the way the cost at Buff State for Master's Degree is $12,000.
Have you had a raise in the last 5 years? I'd hazard a guess you have and no matter how small. It's something. No BPS employee except the School Engineers have gotten a raise is a minimum of 4 yrs, some it's been 5.
We all make our choices, you made yours, teachers made theirs. Why begrudge them what they all work hard for? The grass is always greener to all you naysayers. I bet you couldn't do one day in the job.
I'm betting you haven't a clue why those teachers really leave at the end of the day. Most of them have to run home to get children off busses because they can't afford more daycare. Most teachers spend hours at night correcting lessons and preparing for the next day.
If you want to take that $32,000 and figure out a per hour rate comes out to $12.30 an hour. Wow...they're really making the big bucks aren't they? Yes, they're very lucky to have health insurance, but that won't be a benefit much longer. People like you want them to suffer because god forbid they've chosen a profession that everyone else thinks they know how to do better than they do. I say, put your money where your mouth is...why don't you go back to school get your Master's Degree in Education and get one of those glamour cushy jobs you complain so much about.

I say, put your money where your mouth is...why don't you go back to school get your Master's Degree in Education and get one of those glamour cushy jobs you complain so much about. Yep, and I pay for daycare as well. Good budgeting will help that $32,000 go a long way. If a teacher can't figure out how to balance a budget KNOWING that there is no paycheck for 3 months but receiving a paycheck for 9 months SHOULD give someone with a tiny bit of a clue as to how to develop a budget. I certainly hope you don't teach math. Plenty of people have childcare and pay for it just like some teachers do. Except the rush at the daycare door is usually 5 pm or later. Some actually have to continue child care on a 12 month a year budget. There's a savings for you. Not everyone can have that luxury. Come home and work? I suppose a teacher is the ONLY field in AMERICA where you bring home work. Don't think so. And then there's the cost of gasoline not spent driving to and from your job. That is also something that not everyone gets to save. Just someone who works 9 months out of the year. You've made your choice, don't complain. Raises should be performance based, not an entitlement. A once a year review and based upon that classes performance then a raise. No improvement or consistent failures, no raise. I love what I do and am DAMN proud of the fact that I work extremely hard every day to care for my family. Do I wish I had more money? Sure everybody does but I work with people that care and I wouldn't trade my job or co-workers for DOUBLE the money. I don't whine about my pay....unless I hear someone who is in their job "for the children" complain about not getting a raise. Don't whine about having to make $32,000 extend over 12 months. That's a 2 person income for some families and they're darn happy to have it. Give me a break. If it doesn't pay your bills, YOU can change careers too. Just build a resume but make sure that any job you apply for doesn't include finance, accounting or math. Seems that might be a slight problem area.

With public school kids getting more ignorant, do you think teachesr are earning their pay? I don't!
Nine months salary for only 9 months work. The rest are vacation, all holidays etc. People shoudl be so lucky and they're complaining.
Don't lie it? Get another job. You aren't doing so well. The kid are dumb as rocks. Kids are being molested and raped at schools. A new one today, a female teacher raped 4 boys. Nice going.
Throwing more money at a problem has NEVER worked.
The US pays more money than any other nation for education and we're near the bottom.
Kids, parent and teachers are failing miserably.

Facts are: People are free to come & go as they chose, when we all leave one place we do have to go somewhere else, & he is a free man living in the US of A! Harboring bad feelings will only cause ill-will. maybe it would just be nicer to wish him the very best whereever he goes & like the rest of us-maybe has will/has learned from his mistakes-as to apply it to his next position whereever it may be. GO!!! & GOOD-LUCK ELSEWHERE!!! MR. WILLIAMS IF... YOU STILL ARE CHOOSING TO BE A SUPERINTENDENT. Math isn't the issue here. The issue is the people posting and constantly complaining about teachers, what they do and what they earn. I will never understand why everyone thinks teachers don't work hard and blame them for the ills of education. Yes, there are teachers out there that don't care and don't put a full days work into the job, but those are the exception to the rule. I know hundreds of teachers personally that are hard-working dedicated teachers who put their hearts and souls into the job every single day 365 days a year. Those teachers get results. But you lump them together with the bad apples. Well frankly, I work hard at getting rid of those bad apples. There are bad apples in every profession. Good teachers aren't in this for the money. Bad math? Do you begrudge the Bills or the Sabres thier million dollar salaries? Do you see the irony here? You never hear anyone complain about sports stars and their ludicrous salaries, but you begrudge a hard working teacher who has the job of molding lives and bringing the best of your children a mere $32,000. I will never get this. Yes, there's a problem with the Math, but it's not in the salary teachers earn. The ones I work with earn 10 x what they make and frankly, if I had children I'd want my teachers teaching them.
I still don't know what you do, because again you failed to answer the question and what your BS is in, but I'm sure you do work hard. You probably have more earning potential too but you choose to do what you do for whatever your reasons. That's your choice. I don't begrudge you your choices, so please don't begrudge teachers theirs or their right to work towards better conditions, better standards and better compensation. They have a right to equal pay for equal work with colleagues across the country. Or would you rather all the good teachers leave for a school district that would appreciate them more? That will really solve the problem of poor education in the city of Buffalo. Have you ever thought that the working conditions in Buffalo aren't attracting the best and the brightest? Why on earth would anyone want to work in a district that doesn't pay them well, treats them like ignorant 2nd class citizens and wants them to work for free?
Get real! Again...don't talk about something you know nothing about. You're all ignorant of the real world of education. Unless you've lived it, you have no idea what it's like every day.

Way to go! UNFORTUNATE but TRUE! Sadly is is those of us who take direct "hands-on" care with the actual one on one individuals that get paid the lowest amounts of $ for the most essential care of all!We are the cheapest paid-most important care needed & these are the thanks we get for often doing the best possible job with what we have to work with. There's never any $ to speak of when it comes to "righting the wrongs" or getting the job done at any cost to ensure proper & good care! But...When it comes to looking good---there is always enough $ for that! Lets redecorate they say---ya so they can manipulate the $'s in ?- How conveinient! We can't afford this & that for the kids-even though it may be crutial or help them-we can't---because we only have enough $ for us to do what we need to do-SO SORRY! So the saga goes on-as always! Thank-you kindly for standing up for yourself & others & telling it like it is!!! Keep up the good work---We/The world need as many good people as we can keep---seeing they seem to be dwindling down by the #'s! THE KIDS NEED & DESERVE BETTER-ESPECIALLY THESE DAYS!!! RIGHT-ON!!!

All districts are hiring. You too could have one. what are you waiting for?
