I have to believe that there are many wonderful people that live in NT and WNY. Obviously there are a few who aren't even human beings.I have a hard time believing that there are so many of you. I sincerely hope that you do not express these horrible comments and thoughts to your children. I am suprised you were able to read the article. The ignorance that you have exhibited in your comments will come back to you tenfold.

I hope that your child will never need to live in a home like this. Let me as you this, aside from the money, what if one of your children suffers a terrible injury and needs care like this, what are your options, a nursing home? Will you be able to adequately care for them on what you make in your position right now? I understand the economy and what it takes to raise children, if you can take one moment to look at your children and realize that children are brain injured every day in-utero, at birth and in accidents, you may understand that it doesn't matter where the home is, but that it is needed. Again, remember the moment of birth, before you know what gender the child is, you hold your breath and ask if the baby is alright, for some the answer is no. I work hard every day, I pay unrelenting taxes to line the pockets of politicians, I do not have a difficult time justifying this expenditure. I hope that you can look beyond the money and realize that someday someone you know may need this care.

It's not about the children.. it's the idea that "Why can't more than 4 children be accommodated in one home?" To some of us, it just seems like alot of money on one home. That's all.. nothing more. If you're going to build something like this, then why not build it so more than 4 children can benefit?

It seems like a half million dollars is a lot. But the cost of furniture and equipment for special needs of any kind has to be quite costly. It is so disheartening to hear how some of you talk of kids with disabilities. They will never be able to enjoy many of the everyday activities we take for granted. We need people to look out and care for these people. God forbid you or someone in your family needs extra help some day. Just in case you are wondering, I am not a person of a child with disabilities just a person with a heart.

i realize that items inside the house are quite costly, but the house is 1/2milloin does that include the hoyer lifts the sara lifts and the other equipment or is it just the home itself. when you assess your home you don't include what's in it just the structure. all the amnities included are a sepearte cost.

I have to agree. Why just 4 kids.
1. The state law did not mandate them to 4 kids. It goes by size and all the accomadations
2. It's wonderful to have it in WNY but 1 home? How many kids have these needs?
3. Why can't the parents take care of them. does it bring down their life style?
4. 1/2 million dollars would have provided a lot of equipment for many childen that can't afford it.
And please don't tell me the state provides. Even that depends on your circumstances. Take a mother of three with a handicapped child. His handicap is such that she can not get in home care for him. She can only work 5 hours a day because she must be there to put him on the bus and get him off the bus. Then she has to carry him to and from his wheelchair. She doesn't own the house so she can't have a ramp.(How do you own a home on 5 hr. work day) She can't work weekends because she can not get care for him. He is getting large and it is now a struggle to get him in and out of bed. Try giving him a bath!! But she can not have a hoyer lift as the home can not accomodate it.
Then they spend 1/2 million on a home for 4 children who's families can afford to keep them home and get the equipment they need from the state to care for them.
So Disgusted, watch "Willowbrook" yourself. I am watching the real thing and would not have griped at all if the home was for needy children but it was to accomodate families that already have their basic needs covered.
