What is up? Our voice is no longer important? Daniels got influence on media? Who makes the decison of thread being removed. Ronay?

Some isssues in this thread were silly and misplaced. But overall the truth prevailed. Important to build in voice for accountability with the DOC executive level. Things will run amuck with the present GOOD OLD BOY reign if this thread is removed. Already the DOC is in the throws of disparity. What is real discouraging is that they think it is funny and show no concern It is a one theme executive team. Very dangerous. We have gone back to the sixties in our thinking and actons. Please help. Let our voice be heard

I agree with doc. some of the issues in the knuckle-knocked thread were petty if not inappropriate. But overall the truth did reign. Great resource. Brought real problems to the forefront.

Since Donahue is long gone maybe the infamous knuckle-knocked blog should close down. He is history. But a voice perhaps through this thread, Department of Correction, should be ever present. DOC has issues....big issues. Voices need to be heard!

Does anybody know how we can get an answer on why knuckle-knocked was removed? Do threads have a life span not to exceed a certain time? Can a new thread be initiated?

CRAZY! Just start a new thread and tell your buddies. I miss the outlet and wondered if there would be any activity about the CO arrest at Wabash Valley.

I’m afraid the truth hit too close to home in many cases. Tell your friends in the DOC how to find this blog. I’m sure JDD hated the fact that his name was associated with the last one. Who knows how or why it was taken off; no one will ever tell, so forget it and just go on with this one. The important thing is to have a place to vent.

I can't believe they shut down that thread. Why? Someone must have hit a soft spot.

If this is how they react to anonymous posts on the internet, how do they figure people really trust when they say they want to hear surveys and know what we staff think know about how things are?

There are a few legislator's I know for fact are asking questions about the DOC from both political arenas. Asking questions about JDD, EGB, and Ronay.

All Mitch had to do was ask Emmis to shut down Knuckle-Knock, and he would do it for his old pal. That would get rid of lots questions, FACTS and opinions which people have expressed on that forum.
Who do you really think is running the DOC? It isn’t Buss, he is just a puppet and his strings are being pulled by people downtown. Like JDD he does what he is told to do, the thing is he is not as STUPID as JDD was, he does not act as STUPID, sound as STUPID, or walk around acting as self centered and arrogant and STUPID as JDD.
Mitch is still pulling the strings and just waiting for the Legislators to get out of town to start with more shifting, cutting and dicing of the DOC! The Daniels administration has already destroyed the DOC, it is unsafe, many facilities are nasty dirty (due to forced of money returned to the governor which would have been used for cleaning supplies, and other supply items on grounds), health services are not given when required, food is terrible and facilities are not secure (for staff or inmates) and the facilities do not provide inmates with education (required by Indiana law) or any means to go out into society and lead a normal life. All I can say is THANK YOU KING MITCH!

yes the DOC has been turned back to the dark ages, like the governor wanted, and the broken families that produced these broken kids are being thrown away, like the governor wanted. BUT they aren't leaving, like the governor wants, they are staying here. So conditions have to be made worse and worse to get the exodus moving, to make it so bad these people want to move out of Indiana. Indiana can't prosper the way our governor wants, until the scum is removed. He's turned back the clock, he's shut down the education system, made it the worst in the country, he's shut down the welfare and disability system so that those people have to move out. He's made it easy to eliminate thousands of jobs that were holding the scum in place, but the scum didn't leave. The charities haven't stepped up to take over for the gap left by the governor and the state. And the scum is still here festering and dragging the quality people of this state down. The governor just needs more time to figure out what needs to be done to force the exodus to start and get the scum to move to other states, once he's done that, Indiana will be great again. Since the governor is trying so hard to turn back the clock, maybe it's time he grew a toothbrush mustache and started wearing a white sheet, that would scare a few out of the state.

Go to topix and read DOC to move boys out of Indianapolis Juvenile C...from March 8. Why because it was still in the list and tells FACTS what Central Office felt was a great plan for education of the youth.
Oh, by the way the kids had lice, pink eye and MRSA. The nurses would send them to school with plastic bags on their heads for the lice, or a cup to cover their eye if they had pink eye. The only way anyone discovered they had MRSA was when the staff started getting it. There were NO cleaning supplies because of budget cuts and nothing could be brought in my staff.
The school had a TERRIBLE SMELL the boys did not bath because they were AFRAID TOO! Why, because there was only one staff on duty and that was the place were new boys were initiated, that was also the spot the gangs get even.
Did Mitch or JDD care, nop! I would like to thank the administration for their help in getting more staff at the school and in the cottages, it was Central Office who refused to corporate in the effort. The school was total chaos because the most vital staff was cut from the front desk! Students ran the hall, out the doors, out of the classrooms, and refused to follow any directions because they did not have to do what they were told. It was very simple, school was a joke. The boys slept in class and the counselors were just happy they were in school and out of the unit. The girls were jam packed into tiny classrooms, sometimes seated on the floor because only one floor of the school was being used by order of Central Office!
The boys tore up the floors, the locks, wrote on the walls and when written up it was a joke to them and the hearing board. Most charges were dismissed from school because they just wanted to let the boys go, that was the rule, get them out. Thus, no reform, no work, destruction and out until they would offend and return.

Hey, I loved this statement before and I still love it wish I would have written it
:
Hello Out There, you asked "what can we do?"

One thing we can do is to recognize what a chaotic, disorganized, and out-of-control agency the Department of Correction has become and refuse to accept this for our state. Become aware of what is going on, and become vocal about it...to legislators, the media, your friends, family, and neighbors. Because the problems in our prisons affect everyone.

The fact is, Commissioner J. David Donahue is completely inept; his management of the DOC is incompetent and borders on criminal. He must be held accountable and removed.

Like it or not, this is a political issue and anyone concerned about what is happening with the DOC must be able to stomach that fact. Like it or not, making a change means getting involved. It doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican or anything else. J. David Donahue is dangerous as the head of this agency.

Now go read DOC to move boys out of Indianapolis Juvenile C...

Donahue is no longer the problem. It is Buss. True as Commissioner you are a puppet on a string with little to no control over budgetary issues. You are at the mercy of the gov's office on most issues. You get no public/taxpayer empathy because tax payers don't care about DOC. You are most always between a rock and a hard place.

Having said that Buss is responsible for those he has appointed to his administartion. Dan Ronay was not appointerd because of strong political ties, or community connections. Ronay was appointed because Buss wanted him. They are old friends,in and out of the work place, for years. Buss brought Fistrovich back. Buss allowed someone who had been removed from a Superintendent's positon due to assualt charges on staff to regain a new superintendent's assignment. Buss allowed the underserving humiliation and move out of kellie Whitcomb. Buss has allowed the good old boy system to evolve to an all time high.
Re-entry programs for adult and juvenile faciities.....a joke.
As long as Buss continues to make bad choices with appointments and allow present appointments to pull his strings the DOC will remain stagnet. Again Buss has little input over controls of the gov's office. But if Buss had a strong team at the executive and administrative level mountains could be moved. You may not be able to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear but you can with a sound core make a mighty nice one. Buss lacks loyalty among his team. Too many personal agendas. Too many very pushy, passive agressive, controling appointments. Buss appointments are his responsibility.

Buss had the tiger by the tail when he was appointed. He blew it!

For those who did not get the Sunday paper, good read:
GOP fire from the prairie
Posted: June 7, 2009
Dan Carpenter
Jockeying for prominence on the Republican right has proceeded along two tracks, which often intersect.
There's the sociocultural offensive that harries the Democrats on issues of race, religion and gender. And there's the Mitch Daniels strategy, which eschews these atavistic red flags in favor of a kind of corporate militancy.
Anti-tax, anti-environment, anti-union, anti-urban, anti-public sector, the government-as-business approach plays into nostalgia in the name of futurism and masks service to short-term special interests as gutsy reform.
But at least it's not hate-mongering. The agitation against "wise Latina" judges and gay couples that profits so many of his party's prophets is clearly beneath Mitch Daniels.
The closest he'll come to playing the bigotry card is the regional rivalry stratagem, recently deployed in his broadsides against the "imperialism" of Massachusetts, New York and California regarding curbs on coal-combustion emissions. Conjuring the states decent Hardliners most love to hate, the suddenly spotlighted governor has depicted Indiana and the Midwest as colonies subject to exploitation and ruin by a remote ruling class.
It all fits with the rest of the red-state, red-meat package, this use of resentment against better-educated, better-paid, more "socialistic" sectors. And with apologies to David Hoppe, who first pointed this out in NUVO, the colonial characterization is more accurate than Daniels intends.
In today's economy, home rule is elusive for just about everybody. But Indiana has been an outpost of empire for many years, and this administration has made it available to outside profiteers like nobody's business. Is there anything more Third World, after all, than putting executives of coal-mining and coal-burning industries in charge of environmental protection?
Consider also: the transfer of the Indiana Toll Road into the control of a Spanish-Australian consortium; the dogged pursuit of a $3 billion extension of I-69 that will make Indiana a way station on the Canada-to-Mexico highway; and the outsourcing of welfare services to a controversial non-Indiana company for $1 billion-plus. None of these was put to a referendum and none is popular with those most affected. Whether these experiments ultimately succeed or not depends on one's definition of success; but in any case, Hoosiers are the subjects, not the determiners.
Powerlessness was a powerful motivator of the electorate in 2008. Barack Obama's message that government had gotten into bed instead of into battle with Mammon got across even in red Indiana.
Yet Daniels-style libertarianism won even bigger in a state where not much ideological daylight is visible between Republicans and Democrats. This success, combined with the kudos Daniels has reaped lately from partisan, perfunctory observers of "plucky Indiana" (as per George Will), may have sparked the national aspirations Daniels insists he does not entertain.
Who knows? Maybe he wants to try out his brand of firebranding on a few primaries. Maybe he just wants to buff up his credentials for the corporate boards that welcome members of his profession in retirement. Or maybe -- try this one -- he wants to succeed his old mentor, Sen. Richard Lugar, whose sixth term ends in 2012.
Surely Lugar could offer a refresher course in finding middle ground, plus some news about alternative energy.
