Looks like another company gets hit with our dismal economic situation here in Indiana. Why is the governor or his staff never hold a press conference to announce job losses?

You don't understand why the jobs are being cut. Kimball has been right sizing like so many companies in the USA that dump their senior people. Kimball has been doing it for eight years. They turn right around and hire people new or move there job overseas. The 100 jobs will be lifers that have 25 - 45 years in the company but the new management after Arnold died sees this as $ in their pockets. Of which they have indulged themselves to reward their greedy soles.

Just ask Juarez Mexico who got a nice kimball plant some years back and a big contract.

Speaking as someone who used to work for Kimball, it's been a sinking ship for years now. Look at the Kimball plants in French Lick/West Baden that are setting empty. Or the plants they've shut down in Jasper. Truth is, they can't compete with the foreign market. At least, that's what my former General Manager told me before he bailed.

Yep, either you grovel at upper management or they shift you out! Kimball #1 priority is protecting the golden goose for the upper management. If you question them, your gone. Get in line and be a good little girl or boy!

Open your "Guiding Principals Hymnal" to chapter and verse, and abide by them....unless it goes against anyone in management....Question management and they'll send you on your way!

Has anyone ever seen a successful business operated like that? They are compromising their success and damaging their brand!

The real problems at Kimball lay with a few Middle Managers. You know the type; the world revolves around their position but not what they do. They are charismatic and enjoyable to be around but they have no skills. They really do not understand anything technical. They do not understand the work which is done for them; and they don’t want to.

You can always tell who these people are. They are middle managers, not upper managers. Their number one priority is dressing well, looking good and playing golf! They dress well because they will never get their hands dirty. They will never get involved in the projects they over see; it’s…..Some one else’s job!

They play golf because they have no skills. There is nothing in their department they are capable of doing or understanding. There is nothing in their department they are even interested in learning! They are typically poor computer operators because, well, that’s the secretaries job and there is no reason for them to learn or understand it. Their ambition is of appearance; not their job!

Through it all they will constantly tell you how educated and skilled they are and it is why they are there and you are not!

This is the worse case scenario. They mingle and “smooge” upper management well. Upper management thinks their departments are running great.

To do so they require things of their workers. They require no one bring up issues or talk about problems. To do so is considered “not being a team player!”. They allow or expect some things to be done wrong, unsafely and some times even against code. They do so because first they don’t understand any better, and to bring up the problem or discuss the problem is, well, not being a team player.

Their departments have rogue employees who push their weight around doing things that would never be accepted in a well ran department; from wrong, to unsafe, to immoral, from womanizing to throwing amenities in their bag and taking them home at night. Even just operating in a manner which is unsafe and some times unlawful because it works for them. They use “Kimball’s Guiding Principals” to keep people quiet!

In these departments ran by middle managers who dress well, play golf and smooge upper management, a well run department is one where no one says anything. Anyone who does is let go to protect the environment.

If you want to know what department is the most poorly ran and the most at risk, look around. Who cannot run a computer but who is interested in looking good and playing golf! Incompetence is the showcase of their department and the people who know this are their subordinates!

Anyone of quality is let go in these environments. They don't fit in and threaten the status quo and let go!

Wake up guys! I want to work here; but everyday I shake my head at the games of arrogance!

Our managers have been lying to corporate about operating cost to do what they wish to do. They show the obvious cost an omit associated cost. It's been nothing but smoke and mirrors. Anyone under these managers who differs has been threatened with their job. I know of one who lost his job because he would not go along with the dog and pony show!

Being a team player at Kimball means going along with management lies or else.

Working at Kimball is like working at a church. Conform with the congregation or get out. Can I hear an "Amen".

I don't think I realized how much of a corporate cult Kimball was till I went to Lilly. Kimball is such an odd place. The best are pushed out by a weird corporate culture which looks much like Rome.

I used to put on a front when we did all the corporate enrichment events which now seem so much like a cult. If you don't conform you won't fit.

The reference to Rome such that you kiss the heals of your leader and demand those under you to do the same. It's a weird corporate cult. Corporate hoards their salaries and uses a bonus system to make people work hard. When the economy goes south the bonus system is cut back for the workers but the emperors never suffer!

And if you are the best at what you do, with true interest in the company and not the odd culture, you won't last. If you don't join the cult, you are kicked out like an odd animal.

I have seen the best of the best canned left and right because they don't conform. At the same time the biggest actors promoted. People who are not skilled at what they do, who fail as workers but suck up to the Roman leaders and fit the mold. These are the people promoted into positions.

It is painful for people of quality to work at a place like this.

An odd odd place!

Bad management can be the downfall of many solid companies. While their financial positions are good, their "club" mentality breeds managers who have no business doing what they do.
In the end managers overlook risky, dangerous and illegal behavior in favor of protecting likable subordinates who protect their position; without regard to what is right, safe or legal.
This usually involves charismatic individuals who seem to poses a character liked by all but truly incompetent in what they do. The kind of person who everyone loves to be around but when they talk you walk away and say "what the heck?".
In doing so you get a happy family who keeps out anyone who knows what they are doing because they won't stand for it.
This breeds groups within the organization, protected by management which operate in what seems to be an ideal setting. As time goes by, issues of legality or safety bring down a company like a house of cards.
One day what seemed like a bed of roses turns into a field of land mines. When it comes to safety even those hire up are not immune to catastrophic accidents from incompetence.
Since parts of management were protecting those operating unsafely or illegally, the managers and the company are held personally and completely responsible for the actions of the subordinates.
Management support of this kind of activity can bring a company down starting at the top!

I think it has more to do with the California economy destroyed by liberals; but that is obvious to most people with a brain.
