Sales tax proposal stirs interest

Just what we need, politicians figuring out a way to bilk us ALL out of more money!

Right, just like they saved us money on our property taxes by raising the sales tax.
This is a shell game. Hey idiot politicians, how about spending less money. How about cutting all these failed social programs that just make the problems worse. Funny thing is, you never ask us how it is going to affect our family budgets everytime you raise taxes.. You never see government tightening its belt. How many layoffs in government have you seen ? Why not ? We are not stupid and we will figure out how to get rid of you, Republican or Democrat. Remember what happened to Larry Borst, Remember what happened Bart Peterson. Remember what happened to the city council. Getting politicians in office, out, is the new in ! |

I can see that working. Not with our greedy polititians!

We will see no real progress on property tax relief as long as the left wing democrats control the legislature. How can they have wealth redistribution for the non workers and good pay and benefits for their Public Service Union supporters if they lower your taxes? It is all a scam, just like last year.
|
You are so right, correct, dead on. Could this be compared with the old adage "Rob Peter to Pay Paul"??? Or maybe "Taking the money out of the right pocket and putting it in the left"? It's an election year and once in or re-elected it'll be the same old Bovine Feces. |

Both sales taxes and property taxes could be eliminated if all the loopholes created for the rich and big corporations by the republicans were closed. A flat 10% income tax rate for everyone making over $50,000 per year would be more than sufficient to fund all the programs you could want. The problem is that the big corporations have so much power it will never happen. They have the republican party in their pockets.

When they talk about lowering the sales tax do not believe it. They are trying to pull one over on you. What Indiana needs is a taxcap such as they have in California and some other states. I do not trust Mitch. I know too many people who used to work at IPL when he was in charge there. They all lost retirement and medical benefits because of him. But, he is talking about changing the constitution to protect the tax cut he got for us last year. What is that all about? We need a tax cap. AND, was it really a tax cut? The Sale Tax is a fairer way to finance local government than property tax or income tax. The trouble with our sales tax is too many individuals and entities are exempt from paying it. This leads to fraud and corruption and is not a fair tax. Every one should pay the sales tax, period. No exemptions for farmers, churches non-profit organizations or any one else. Why should it not apply to legal fees and medical services? I would say it should not apply to food as in states like Florida.

I am amazed that you are smart enough to cash your welfare check |

Actually, I kind of like this plan. Not everyone owns property, but everyone uses services. That would spread the wealth more evenly. My property taxes went down this time, by the way, and I was happy about that, and when the 1% cap kicks in, they will go down even more. We have to do something, people. We can't just sit around and whine about every idea.

I would guess you make less than50,000 a yr.Over tax corp. so they have another reason leave Ind.How do supose any business could be convinced to start up in Ind. knowing they are going to be taxed out the rear.Oh yea you probably don't want a job anyway |

2 billion that COULD be used to eliminate property tax..........but would it?

Everyone beware! Quigley has his M-1 loaded and he's ready to do battle, do an impersonation of John Wayne(who, unlike others, never saw a hostile action in WW2...Jimmy Stewart flew 25 combat missions, Lee Marvin was wounded at Tarawa, the list goes on). |

As a home owner who is still waiting to find out what my taxes are. Please make it retroactive I would have money to pay for gas.
A sales tax is the way to go. Even illegal immigrants would be subject to pay along with everyone else period. You buy it you pay the tax and government reaps the benefit. And we are not the only ones paying for everyone and everything else. |

They are talking about a sales tax on labor and material, straight across the board. So when you have your car, your furnace or even your shoes repaired, you will be paying a sales tax on the labor portion. One proposal will include sales tax on your trip to the doctor, or dentist or any medical or legal provider. Now, on top of that, the companies (or individuals) will be required to collect this and send it on to the state and do all the associated paperwork with this. So, their costs will go up, and guess who then gets stuck with the higher costs? Yup, you and me. Meanwhile, the politicians will be figuring out ways to spend the windfall and, if usual, how to give themselves a pay raise. All of this needs to stop. The entire system is broken and it needs to be changed.

Exactly,if you give them 20 bucks they try to spend 2000.You can come up with a billion different ways to steal our money and call it a tax.Untill politicians quit treating tax dollars like an all you can eat buffet we will be expected to cough up more cash. |

If you look close at the picture you will see that the M-1 is unloaded and the clip is in the troops hand. Did you ever carry an M-1? |
I didn't look all that closely. Yes, I carried and fired an M-1(also the rifle grenade(ouch). Never was unfortunate to acquire the notorious M-1 thumb. You surely recall the 1000 inch and KD ranges. I fired Expert on the 1000, on the KD it was horribly windy, didn't even break 200. Have also fired a .30 and .50 caliber MG, Bazooka, BAR and a Japanese 6.5 brought back from the Pacific. One weapon I have always wanted to fire...a Thompson. Would also love to even see fired, a Wehrmacht MG 42, or even a MG 34 best MGs of WW 2. |

I did in boot camp...**** are heavy after holding them out in front of you for several minutes... All i got to shoot was the .50cal machine gun mounted on our port and starboard sdies of the ship. Even when attempting to stabilize it, unless you do burst shots...it'll track up on you faster than you can control...sure would be fun to shoot the BMG sniper rifle. |
